I was doing level 4s at 1.5m SP in a passive drake solo (albeit slowly and having to skip the harder ones.) and also ran some 4s with my mates. I made about 500mil isk by the time I could get into a BS (1.8m SP) so thought hell why not and got the Scorpion Navy Issue although I had to fit alot of cap recharge modules as my cap skills were bad but they're going up and I'm now able to fit it better (Still need T2 X-L booster and T2 boost amp skills) and soon I will be increasing missile skills. (currently at 1.9m SP). So if I can do it, you can do it too. The most important part is having a solid tank with mission specific hardners, ammunition and knowing the trigger ships and planning ahead for them. Get T2 light/medium drones to take care of frigs and cruisers and it's just easy sailing. Good luck.

I was doing L4s no problem in Abaddon at 5mil SP. And I have wasted loads of training into drake/raven, which I hated and never used properly.
I second those that are saying you can run L4s ar 2mil SP.

Thanks everyone :)
I started playing EVE about 4 years ago but then I stopped for a couple of years and only just reactivated. I'm quite noob-ish.
I'm just a bit wary of level 4 missions. It took me awhile to find a decent fit for my Hurricane (I lost a few in level 3 missions, probably Blockade). As I have no experience of level 4s I wasn't sure what to expect, and I don't want to lose my first battleship on it's maiden voyage.
And I got scared by a similar thread to this where the OP was having trouble with L4s even though they seemed to own many awesome ships.

cane is pvp/level 3-mobile
altho this will work.. tears frigs/cruzer and BSs apart
6 x 425mm T2 - phased plasma 2 x arby heavy assault - faction missiles
1 x LSE T2 2 x rat specific 1 x y-s afterbuner
3 x gyro T2 2 x tracking enhancer T2 1 x nanofiber internal structure T2
3 x extenders (i prefer buffer, but u can go purger if ur feeling so)
6 x Hobs T2
speed is the runners key here, your ACs + drones will shred all frigs b4 they even get near u, then orbit things, picking the best orbit/coming out of orbits @ 2500km, whilst maintaining speed
ive run sanctums with this, they have @ 1st wave, 8 BS and a fair few cruisers and frigs
dps is something like 500+ with moderate skills, getting near 650dps maxed, defence is low, but u wanna use yer speed... KILL FRIGS 1st!!! :)
only problem is guristas and maybe serpentis happy hunting edit: get yer BS out for guristas, kill frigs 1st, altho missions like guistas extrav, frigs are the triggers.. read evesurvival...
hard mission that will probably nuke ya 1st time round (maybe) - the assault - enemies abound - worlds collide - pirate invasion - the blockade - vengeance (use BS) - stop the thief

I did level 4's at 4 mil SP in a typhoon. It was slow as hell but i had mission guides bookmarked and was overtanked so it was doable but slow, used a 1 LAR + 1 MAR and resist mods oh how noobish i was but it worked. Haven't lost a ship in a level 4 back when i was doing them.
Lol still had my first phoon fit in my EFT

I'm at 2.5m SP flying a passive fit Drake, and L4's aren't too bad, only tough mission so far was Damsel (Close orbit Machs are a bane to my existence :/), although I'll probably shy away from WC/EA/Blockade if they ever come up. Maybe it's just my perception but it seems that ISK/hour is much better doing this than L3's. Still close to 2 weeks till Raven...

Well there's a difference between doing L4s and warp out a lot of times or doing L4s and safely complete them. There's a long road between those phases!

Something is wrong here.
I remember doing L4's with 3mil sp , no gun skills and T1 Heavy drones with my Domi.
I just started soloing level 4 missions a couple weeks ago when I was at 3m SP and I haven't had any problems now that I fit 800's and TE's on the maelstrom.
I've tried 1400 scouts and 1200 scouts but for missions the 800's are superb.
As other people have said, as long as you read the mission specs and tank for the damage dealt and deal the damage required you should be fine.
Also make sure you bring the drones that are mission specific. You don't need T2 drones to run 4's, but good drone skills are a must.

These usually go hand in hand unless you're an utter cheapskate ofc.

Edited by: Hurrakan on 04/03/2011 17:20:49 OK I guess I should be able to handle it - although I do want to be able to finish missions reasonably safely + quickly.
Actually I've decided to delay buying a battleship until the insurance runs out on my Hurricane, which gives me a couple more weeks skill training time.
Here's my skills anyway:

With those skills you should be doing L4s now, don't wait. Here... fit this out:
[[Maelstrom, Junior X-Large Tank] Power Diagnostic System II Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II Gyrostabilizer II Gyrostabilizer II
X-Large Shield Booster II Shield Boost Amplifier I Invulnerability Field II Invulnerability Field II Cap Recharger II [3rd Hardener or Afterburner depending on mission]
800mm Heavy Prototype I Repeating Siege Cannon, EMP L 800mm Heavy Prototype I Repeating Siege Cannon, EMP L 800mm Heavy Prototype I Repeating Siege Cannon, EMP L 800mm Heavy Prototype I Repeating Siege Cannon, EMP L 800mm Heavy Prototype I Repeating Siege Cannon, EMP L 800mm Heavy Prototype I Repeating Siege Cannon, EMP L 800mm Heavy Prototype I Repeating Siege Cannon, EMP L 800mm Heavy Prototype I Repeating Siege Cannon, EMP L
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Capacitor Control Circuit I Large Projectile Burst Aerator I
5 Light Drones 5 Medium Drones 1 Heavy Drone
This is probably overtanked, but that will be good for starting out. In missile heavy missions (or ones with long trips between gates) use an afterburner, otherwise use a third hardener for a little more overtank. This is the setup I was running at about 7M Skill points, so you should be able to do quite well. The only thing that will give you problems are sniping BS that like to keep there distance. Switch out the Invulnerabilty Fields for mission specific hardeners when you can. I would usually switch out one for the mission specific, and leave the rest... but that's just me.
Engage targets at 40k (maybe slightly further out with your skills), but try to orbit enemy battleships at around 9k if you can. If you can hit the smaller ships before they get close do so... you can wipe them in one volley usually. Once frigates get within 15k ignore them and set your drones onto them, and start focusing on bigger targets. Using the X-Large tank requires more pulsing, but you get more benefit out of the shield amp and the maelstroms inherent bonus this way.

I'm coming up to 6 mil SP and I am just about able to solo all but the most difficult lvl4s now. Here's what i've picked up so far.
*note, lvl4s for me are in a Domi.
- The value of T2 light drones cannot be underestimated, and every BS has at least the capability to field a flight of 5 (as far as i'm aware) - T2 tank is the first thing to go for. If armour tanking that includes the T2 capacitor rechargers - Read the information about aggro on Eve Survival as if your life depended on it - because it does.. - Any frigates in the mission are likely to scram, and so need to die first
Oh, and have a book or something on-hand for when you have to slowboat 50+km to an acceleration gate - this is especially painful for me in the domi
