Edited by: ErrorS on 02/02/2005 19:24:08 i like the beacon idea. Titans shouldn't be able to go anywhere on their own. It would be nice having to have wingmen jump to systems to place a beacon so the titan can jump there. It would make for some interesting gameplay and might even add to the atmosphere, i think. Would premote teamwork, a titan would be a true corperation ship.. not something people fly around in to pirate, do missions, etc.
the beacon would have to be placed in the follow system and would have a 5minute anchoring time. Small cargo capacity, so anyone in a frigate can place it.
this also makes it nearly impossible for people to attack enemy corp systems in a titan. They should only be used for defenses and last line defenses.
honestly, i hope it's not done any other way. If a titan doesn't require a few ships to even operate, then I'm going to be seriously ****ed off. I don't want to have to deal with crappy pirates camping gates with MOBILE STATIONS.
so, here is how I think a titan should be.
Max speed of no more then 50m/s. No AB or MWD cabapble of moving a titan.
extremely high sig radius. Anyone can hit them with anything.
Pure defenses. Near what a station has. Impossible to take down with a small fleet.
A large number of offensive weapons. Smalls to fight off frigs and x-large to take down battleships.
EXTREMELY expensive. I'm talking in the billions to build one.
Cannot get from one system to another without at least 1 frigate helping.. my plan above. Make it so you cannot attack a system with a titan, or make it really hard to do so. Somehow make it seem like the titan moves so slow into a system that enemies will have no problem taking it down. So it hinders the rest of the fleet and makes it vulnerable. I think this can ALL be done with the beacon idea.
I don't think it should be impossible to attack other systems though. But it will make it interesting trying to get a titan into another system.
Oh, I have an awesome idea. Let the pilot set the beacon, but make it show up on your overview like a star or planet might. This would allow people to set beacons in enemy space that isn't being defended properly.
how about even having a specific TECH1 frigate that sets the beacons? One that has few defenses.. this is how I imagine it could be.
One person in a titan wants to attack enemy space. Outside of the enemy's owned space, a second pilot in a frigate jumps to the next system. The pilot, undefended, tries to set a beacon. A single scout sees it on his overview, jumps in and attacks this pilot making it so the beacon wasn't able ot be set.
Or this happens and there is no enemy pilot in the system and the beacon can be set with no problem. Enemy system gets taken easily by the titan.
Then the strategies and teamwork required to move a titan.
Instead of a loan frigate setting the beacon, have a whole fleet defending this single pilot. Enemy pilots try to get through the friendly fleet to the frigate setting the beacon so the titan can't jump in. If they fail, the titan jumps in and the fight gets that much harder. If they succeed, the titan cannot jump into the system and the friendly feet has to retreat.
i'm sure it will end up not being like this. We'll see titans in 0.3 space going from belt to belt picking on lone mining cruisers or battleships. Every member of m0o will have one and they'll end up having to be balanced down to the point where 3-4 skilled frigate pilots can jam and kill one with no problem.. much like battleships are now
ccp, please don't screw this up. I don't want titans to end up like battleships :| ________
