We are coming up on the cut off time for plans submitted (March 31st). Remember, plans must be submitted to either myself or the team that I have designated on Page two of this thread. After that, we won't be taking any additional submissions and we're just going to work with what we have. Plans/ideas put on this thread DO NOT COUNT as being submitted to us.
I only do diplomancy because I haven't found you.. yet. |

That, in a nutshell, is the problem with any of these occupancy figures of merit (including null sec).
IÆm glad you bring up merit. This, I hope we can agree, is very important. Physically being in a place (i.e., occupying it) is not meritorious.
The Caldari ôwinning fwö was not very impressive to anyone who understands the mechanics. Because they knew the mechanics made this possible:
"It took less than a week to achieve the maximum faction warfare rank (Divine Commodore), à.111 faction warfare complexes were captured à I did not kill anyone in the process..ö Ankhesentapemkah Posted - 2008.06.18 02:29:00
What has merit according to the eve player base? I would suggest that skill at solo and small gang pvp has merit according to the eve player base. If occupancy plexing required this then winning occupancy would be a meritorious goal.
Why the alliance tournament involves watching people test their skill at small gang pvp? Why not watch a big blob of ships gank other ships that jump through a gate or leave a station? Why doesnÆt it involve having players scan down fw plexes and shoot npcs? It doesnÆt involve shooting npcs at all.
Eve needs to develop a mechanic such that when you win the players think you really accomplished something that takes skill.

If you asked CCP their intent behind the plex mechanic, I'd bet it wasn't to allow some solo pilot to conquer them all without firing a shot. Its a watered-down version of the current sovereignty mechanic. Its just that the occupancy mechanic in FW doesn't mean anything. In null, it has a decisive result on the control of the system. In FW, it just turns the system color in Dotlan a different color.

And there is only one mechanic in all of eve that could be conducive to small scale pvp. That one is fw occupancy. I am just asking for a *single* mechanic in all of eve that supports small scale pvp. I don't think pver's should complain if there exists a single mechanic in all of eve that is not really geared to shooting xs.
That was well said

I agree, well said.
As an aside, my theory is that, regardless of what they or their press releases say, CCP created FW mechanics to get hostile players into close proximity. What ever happens after that is up to us. And it's a good plan, the dev's just need to go about it differently.
