Hello Louis deGuerre,
If you don't want to view the HD content in real time, you will be able to do it later on Youtube at no charge. All Fanfest videos will be uploaded there in both standard and high definition.
The SD stream will be available live for free as well.

Yeah, but what about the microtransaction crap you get with the HD stream? I've seen this happen before. T shirts are the thin end of the wedge. Once people accept this garbage it will be multicolored ship hulls for 20 bucks, exculsive microtransaction boosters and implants and other such garbage.

Pretty soon it's ten cents for 1000 ammo, five bucks for a module that allows access to wormholes and so on. The game turns to nickle and dime trash.

So basically you're angry with EVE for something that has been done in STO? Are you aware of how dumb you sound?
If micro-transactions are limited to cosmetics with an option to acquire them via in-game currency and this kind of out-of-game services, I'll be perfectly fine and supportive.

What annoys me the most is when corporations use the cash from garbage like this to pay 'forum guides.' Forum guides are trolls, paid by the corporation to disrupt discussions. It's standard practice now for game developers to have a couple of paid shills on their books, looking for negative comments on forums and disrupting them with posts justifying the corporate line. If you look back though previous posts you can tell who they are.
Clearly these people are nothing but corporate dogsbodys. That such people exist at all is a symptom of the vapid, shallow dystopia the world has become. Here's how wikipedia describes these nobodies...
'When targeting consumers known to be consistent Internet users, undercover marketers have taken a significant interest in leveraging Internet chat rooms and forums. In these settings, people tend to perceive everyone as peers, the anonymity reduces the risk of being found out, and one marketer can personally influence a large number of people' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Undercover_marketing#Internet_marketing
The STO foums were full of this garbage. Does CCP resort this type of stuff? Well, it's hard to say. It's standard practice but I hope CCP has more respect for themselves and their community. Posts like the two above may have just been made by drooling fanboys with no intelligence. On the other hand, their previous rantings do make me suspicious.

Even if they're NOT limited to cosmetics, as long as they can be purchased with PLEX and PLEX can be purchased with ISK, I fail to see the problem. _

I was just about to make a note about how the increased demand for PLEX for usage in other instances than payment for a monthly subscription would likely lead to an increased price, which would be an annoyance for those who actually use PLEX to pay for their subscription (those who play for "free"). Then I realized that increasing the demand for PLEX is actually one of the better tools CCP have in the war against RMT and can as such be nothing but a good thing.

Well tbh I would have serious issues with some stuff which makes training faster or gives more iskies from missions/bounties, increase damage etc...
If the goal of this games development turns to lizzard mode and maximum profit will get top priority, it will be really sad day for the content and future of entire product.
As long microtransactions are limited to exclusive cosmetics I don't have problem with those. This HD video with plex stuff doesnt really harm anyone and has valid reasoning.

The main problem I see is it'd break the immersion and the feeling of player-driven world whereas cosmetics corresponds to a different in-game industry to which the player has never had access.

Bingo
Originally by: Grey Stormshadow Well tbh I would have serious issues with some stuff which makes training faster or gives more iskies from missions/bounties, increase damage etc...
Training faster, meh, not such a big deal. You already indirectly can pull that off by purchasing a character with high SP. Granted, not quite the same thing, but the only practical difference is the "date of birth vs max SP on char" eyeballing estimate (which was already inaccurate in one direction, since you can't know how often people took a break from EVE or how slow they used to train skills earlier). It could also have an effect on ISK value of high-SP characters, but that would strongly depend on chosen price (if you have to pay 1x PLEX to receive about 2 weeks' worth of SP, the value of characters would remain mostly the same).
Earning more ISK from missions and bounties, debatable, if CCP would ever do it. But the motivation for such a feature would be minimal. I mean, on one hand, sure, it's a clear advantage for the user (if you ignore the cost)... but then again, on the other hand, you can't ignore the cost nor the fact that (even if just indirectly) the advantage can be purchased with ISK too, so it really only becomes a matter of "do I play often enough to benefit from it" (or in other words, does that person earn enough extra ISK to pay for the equivalent of a PLEX and then some, or not). If the answer to the question above is "yes", then that means this player pays double, but one other player that depends on PLEX to play won't be able to make enough ISK in time for a PLEX due to increasing prices (I'm oversimplifying here for the sake of brevity, that's not quite how it works but you get the idea, I hope), so overall, financially, for CCP it's a wash. If however the answer is "no", most of the time the player will either not bother or will simply sell a PLEX instead, so again, for CCP, it's still a wash. In other words, why bother giving that option.
As for the "pay PLEX to increase damage"... I seriously doubt CCP would ever introduce anything that would grant anything even remotely close to "double damage and extra tank" for the price of one PLEX per month for any single account, because it would be so obviously overpowered. However, for most practical intents and purposes (at least for single-account users), a similar bonus does exist in another form - a second account. Granted, costs are also higher (skills, ships, etc) but the increase in efficiency is staggering. If you make that damage bonus small enough to not be outrageous, very few would ever bother and instead simply get yet another acount... so you might as well never have those bonuses in the fist place.
Quote: If the goal of this games development turns to lizzard mode and maximum profit will get top priority, it will be really sad day for the content and future of entire product.
So... wait... getting content you'd WANT to spend money on because it's worth spending RL$ or ISK on (otherwise why buy it)... ... that is a sad thing ?

It's bound to happen eventually what with the influx, and thereby capital, of people who join EVE when it offers some aspect shy of spreadsheets and transversal velocity.

Micro transactions have no place in this game, its just full out greed via CCP.
Lets say you have a 2 PLEXes, one you want to buy a Vagabond with and one you want to buy a T-shirt with.
Say you sold a PLEX and bought a vagabond with a faction disruptor. You give your ISK to the guy who took the time to build it, who gave ISK to guys who collected the materials. Buying the disruptor awards the guy who spent time to find it. Not to mention, you paid for another player's subscription. The market continues to move forward and you continue to have an effect on the fabric of the sandbox world.
Now you take the second PLEX and you buy a T-shirt. Absolutely nothing in the game has moved forward. You are out of money and CCP's budget to work on Carbon grows a little.
It could have been a dynamic thing, with players controlling resources, players selling and marketing to one another. It could have been so many things to fit a niche we don't have in our sandbox. That fits the flavor of this game. Insert cash here to pay our art department does not fit with the game. ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

Or someone buys a plex off the market with isk to get his t-shirt so the plex seller can now buy his vaga with the faction point.

If the process to the get the T-Shirt was a similar process to making the Vagabond (as in, also player made), you'd impact players involved in the production of the t-shirt.
