It's official Star Trek Enterprise has been canceled by UPN. According to the news it's not just Enterprise that's done, Star Trek seems to be going on a three or more year break. That means no new movies, and no new series. I figured that there was at least one other Trekkie in Eve, so I figured I'd post the news. Also, if you want to help to try and change the minds over at UPN, head over to www.saveenterprise.com. Please, if you've ever watched Star Trek, help to save it! |

Well call me a tribble and start multiplying...
I just wrote a canned letter response that I'll be sending into the network. I'll be the first to admit Star Trek needs a rest after Enterprise...but couldn't these nutbags have waited three more years and let the series finish? Oy Vey. It was starting to get good DS9-style (Romulan-Earth war).

Maybe they can spend the budget on something decent, instead of the sad, crap, rehashed, old bile that Trek has become.

im extremly dissapointed in this news - imo Enterprise was my favorite ST to date except next gen.
It was more relistic - its carried from episode to episode brilliantly, just loved the way the ship didnt start again fresh in every episode - more violent - and it had clever story plots that connected it to the other seris very well - it had the potential to do alot with its plot and ive never missed a single episode.
Its a shame they didnt think of enterprise before voyager cus if u ask me that seris was the black sheep of the star trek universe.

Edited by: XwingRob on 05/02/2005 05:59:06 Well, I definately agree that there should be a break in Star Trek for awhile. I think starting Enterprise immediately after Voyager ended was a mistake. Personally, I felt that the Temporal Cold War was just a waste of time. And I felt their technology advanced too quickly, and felt like the same as the other Star Trek series.
Well, I think season 4 is pretty good so far. Too bad we'll never see the Earth-Romulan war.

I have to say I'm not really sad. It had could have been good. There was a lot of story/history that was hinted at during all the movies/shows. But they did a bad job. There were just a few to many "campy" episodes. They tried to make it like the old ST which it wasnt. Tried to advance the characters to fast..and really had some crappy stories that didnt tie into the whole ST universe. And TBH I feel kinda happy (not really mind you) but I was a fan of the last 4 seasons of Voyager. It was starting to really devlope the characters it had good reason to encounter new races and tech, yet they pulled the plug with no warning to focus on Enterprise. (and hey I liked looking at Jerry Ryan in her tight outfit) My hopes of seeing her in a skimpy slave outfit was dashed. I'm sure if they would have run 1 more season it would have happened. Damn them, damn them, damn them. We do need a break from Star Trek. Give it a few years rest.

Ill never understand how anyone liked voyager. It had a few good episodes but was mostly bad. I hate janeway with a passion. Enterprise just made no sense to me and i hope it is disowned like kirk vs god was.
I personally hope that in a few years a new series, set maybe 10-15 years after nemesis starts with Riker as the captain of his own ship or perhaps the NCC-1701 F.
As i watch over old episodes of TNG and DS9, DS9 is starting to become my favorite over TNG. Once Sisko lost the hair that series really became great. ______________

DS9 was the best of them, though it really owes its success to B5 for forcing it to use extended storylines. But the current season is really good. It's a shame it's getting cancelled. I wonder if anyone else, like Sci-fi, can pick it up?

Thank goodness it's gone!
The Enterprise series was horrible, in my mind.
Ever since Star Trek: The Next Generation, ended, it's as if the whole thing went down the tube. Deep Space Nine entertained me, as did Voyager the first few seasons, but Enterprise never held my interest. And I mean like NEVER!
I like Star Trek -don't get me wrong but I say let it lay dormant until something awesome can be brought about.
Anyway... w007! DEATH TO ENTERPRISE SERIES! -----------------------------------------------

One thing I always though would be good would have been to set a ST series from a Klingon or Romulan viewpoint instead of the Federation always.

Next Gen was social workers in space. Best parts were the battles with the borg and the movies. DS9 was alright, but only really picked up with the Dominion wars. Though the Cardassians were always fun. Voyager, again was good when they started kicking arse. And when they kept screwing things up. Enterprise was great, until they started screwing with the storylines. Think that was about 3 or 4th episode wasn't it?

Now that would be worth watching. Always loved the Romulan Star Empire, and I wouldn't mind seeing how it is post-Nemesis. Klingons were pretty well done in DS9, so of course I want to see Romulan culture explored more. But both would be nice.
And yeah....as for Trek, DS9 hands down first place. TNG comes next. Everything else is up for grabs. Only people who like Voyager more, are you really wierd Euro's for some odd reason. Go figure. (Most of us from the States would disagree that Voyager was ever better then DS9, let alone TNG.) But it's a franchise. I was happy to have Trek period.
This just stinks of (say it with me) Crusade. The Babylon 5 spin-off that never made it past the first season thanks to stupid execs at TNT. Sci-fi should have picked that up, and I doubt they'll pick up Enterprise unless someone gives them a cart load of cash. They have Battlestar Galactca now.

Star Trek deserves a rest, it's been on the air constantly since 1987! The format's getting very tired now.
Just leaves a nice big hole ready for another Babylon 5 or somesuch to fill.
Maybe it'll come back in a few years, but if it does, it needs to try not to press the reset button at the end of every episode.
Just my opinion, anyways...

Edited by: ivar R'dhak on 12/02/2005 01:21:37 TIME TRAVELLING a good idea? Man that was practically the main plotlne of the 1st & 2nd Enterprise seasons. This dumb contrived uninovative storyline by your¦s truly Brannon & Braga is the reason why everybody started ignoring the Enterprise "prequel" and missing the interesting 3rd season episodes by Coto and the writers he hired.
But thankfully I might add this is over now. The 3rd season has superior writng and storylines but I fear they are geared mainly towards the Trekker crowd and can¦t really reel in the "normal" people anymore. I strongly suspect Coto saw this cancelation aproaching when he took over the sinking ship and am really greatfull for his gift to us old fans of the franchise. You know I think the problem is the first 2-3 sesons always suks. By the 4th thru 6th is when the characters really start to develop. For me DS9 was hard to get into. Just didnt feel ST, you know more or less always on one station. I'd give it a try if they ran it in sequence and put it an hour before I went to bed every night . SNG was good but for me the last 2 seasons lost me. I started hating the format of where they'd tell two stories at once per episode. Its been my number one turn off from all the series. Might as well been watching a 1/2 hour of Home Impovement. Voyager didnt do it to often-one reason why I like it. And SNG for awhile started trying to add a moral values/ political messages. I think is what the franchise needs most of all is new producers. Someone with a new vision. Like the person above me said. A show based one of the other races would be great....just please not the Vulcans.

DS9 is worth sticking with, honestly.
Seasons 4-7 are, a few dodgy episodes aside, pretty good. Towards the end, it even becomes compulsive viewing. But as it's a continuing story (kinda), you'll get the best out of it if you follow it from the start. But you can just as easily jump in at 'Way of the Warrior' (season 4 opener) and enjoy it.
DS9 is far and away the best Trek ever made IMO.

I thought Enterprise could have changed the face of Star Trek. Time travel is a laughable topic that is pure speculative AT BEST but it gave them a engine to rewrite all the things they F***ed with in TNG, DS9, and Voyager.
I love Trek but it they always topped themselves and couldn't get the next best thing right.
Best Enemy : Borg -> ass got kicked whats next? Best Annoyance : The Q -> lets just pity them for being supreme Best Rival : Klingon -> lets adopt them into our communistic caste system Best threat : Romulan -> lets waste this development on Nemesis
I mean really... whats next? They have done just about all they can do with what they created w/ TNG. Enterprise was a way out. It was also had good acting and a smallish crew that developed into something more than voyager as the weight of the future of mankind depended on those few to kick ass. Its a real shame its getting canceled. I hated it at first but a Trekkie buddy of mine forced me to watch a few of season 2 and I got hooked. If you don't like the show... watch some reruns and give it another try like I did. You might just eat your words some day haters. -------------------- The Nest

What i saw of Enterprise sucked. DS9 Remains the darkest and best Trek yet.
Of the new stuff Battlestar is awesome and must be continued. Stargate Atlantis has lots of potential, especially looking at the pile of steaming poo the last SG1 series hads been. Though elements of the Farscape cast joining SG1 for the next season means it could be good.
