There's a reason companies like this sponsor an event like fanfest. Huge Kudos to CCP for investing in new juicy hardware, and Kudos to IBM for pushing hardware into their hands, with discounts. Hopefully it pays off for them to give their product a running start into the market. I loved that graph with the caption reading "WTF!?!?" It's true that whatever an MMO company does to expand their capacity (If the game is any good) will always cause the player base to punish the server's capabilities that much harder. As some of the devs have said in their blogs, the only thing they can hope to accomplish is to stay slightly "ahead of the curve."

Removed agent quality, now based on agent level only. Onboard scanning, upped the scanning range and reduced scan time. Can now tell appart BPC from BPO's. Still not able to stack them though Plug in the implant without worrying about pausing ongoing training Tech 3: change subsystems at a POS. Corp logo's on ships. Auroa voice comming back. Singularity CQ release in about 2 weeks.

Guess people will be cashing out datacores and moving to the few highsec agents.

However, I'd assume there is a bit more to this one than just a large amount of RAM/HD space... would be curious to know more.

All they mentioned was that they are not commercially available yet. Its a unreleased IBM server running a unreleased Intel CPU. This is probably the most reasonable explanation. No modern company ever 'discounts' merchandise just because they think its cool and good 'potential' marketing even though thats exactly the way it was pitched. Fast forward a few months when ccp is pulling its collective hair out because of all the 'undocumented' issues with the 'new exclusive hardware' that is bugging out left and right. tl;dr: ibm and intel are probably pushing out this stuff so ccp can be the one to do the real world testing on it. Companies can and frequently will discount a server if you are purchasing it while it is still going through prototyping/testing. Or they'll just write it off completely. One of my coworkers still has a 192 GB Dell prototype at home from 4-5 years ago when that particular server was still pre-release. They wrote it off and he got a 60k server for his home network. That doesn't mean the server will cause all kinds of problems, I don't think they send it to potential customers until its had quite a bit of testing already.
