That is an awesome vision of the future. Just don't ***** out on it on the road to it. I'm sure there will be times where you want to cut corners and make compromises because what you're trying to achieve will be god damn hard, but don't give up on it. That vision is worth all the sweat and effort it takes to achieve it.

OMG that was awesome. But it confirmed my belief that Dust would be better as a 3rd person shooter. I hope you give us the option.

Started off and was like "hmm sounds like C&C music"
Ok'ish vid, but what really made my **** my pants was the dreads shooting FPS tards on planets, now I hope this isnt a false promise, because I will be really ****ed, I would literally buy 1000 GTC if this was a feature.
Noticed in station shooting etc too, which is also nice, hope this is possible too.
Anyway I missed the fanfest stream, was anything said on how DUST will affect 0.0??

btw when you say future do you mean this year or is this going to be a seven year project too :P because it would be nice to see this before WOD comes out XD

Piece of advice: don't take this vid remotely literally. It was meant to be entertaining, but it's very well established that movies and video games both suck when they try to mimic each other.

Remember folks, this is a "vision of the future".
I went to Fanfest in 2008, it was really good and I would love to go again sometime. While there CCP showed a video of their "vision of the future" it showed the captains quarters, and the inside of the station, with the idea that you could rent shop and office space. This was 3 years ago! and we are still waiting, there were quite a few "visions" shown that weekend, and most of them found their way into game in some form or another.
Epic mission arcs was the one I remember best (being a carebear) they were introducing not only a new set of missions, but a framework that would allow mission creation to be really easy and much better than the current system, it would allow endless variation... in the end we got 4 missions out of that and nothing more.
I only cite this example to throw this awesome video into perspective.

Yep, my thoughts too. Instead of Eve: Forever it should be Eve: Never
Cool video, but just adds to the disapointment of what will never be.

Really exciting trailer. I really like where all of this is going... just FYI I may know a guy doing some planet side ops when this comes to pass... and this "guy" I know knows all of your EvE backstabbing BS so don't try playing me... uh... him... like the dude in the trailer or I will come getchya!

Sadly this is very much the case. EVE creeps towards the future and never quite or feels as great as the promise. Such is the power of marketing. Cool video though.

I don't see it happening, especially in the short-to-medium run.

Obligatory bitter post.
Maybe if you put all of the time and effort that went into making all of these video into actual game development instead of lies and deceit, you'd have something far more substantial in Eve already.

Yay, because it takes all of CCP's 400 employees to put together a CGX video lasting 2'38"... 
EVE Forever is a teaser of what EVE could be in say 5 years. If things go right and the decissions are taken and so many variables.
But hey, this Fanfest will be wild compared to next years' when all they will announce will be an endless row of much needed iterations (according to the schedule provided like a year ago where 2011= Incarna 0.5 and 2012= Incarna 1.0 +feature iterations at last).

The promising thing is that video was done with existing tools and in-game style assets according to the presentation, not a fancy pre-rendered animation that the game(s) will never look like.
It's good to see what the future holds I think... the "I want it NAO!" crowd can whine all they want. |
