Not all IPOs work that way. And there is no reason CCP's would either.

WoW, it is the most successful MMO on the planet. Not good enough for you?
Everyone else already said it for me, so I'll just say this: Clearly, your definition of "good" has entirely nothing in common with my own.
You may not like it, but youcan't deny that it has paid off.
Facebook crap psychological applications paid of very well...That doesnt mean that they are something more than a pathetic skiners box with no game inside and just a money grabbing application for stupid ppl Profitable design=/= good design. Facebook crap are simply profitable, devs think how they will get moeny and try to find the most effective way and then put it in a theme that will work for their market... Real designers though care for their game because its theirs and they love it and want to improve it Signature removed for being not EVE related. Zymurgist |

EVE going public would be the inevitable end of EVE. I've said that on these forums for years (mostly in the "EVE is dying" threads). Let's hope the current owners get their priorities right (and that they're getting enough remuneration).

A few years ago at GDC I went by the CCP booth at the expo (where they were having a keg party lol). I walked up to Hilmar and said "man whatever you do, don't sell out to EA, Microsoft, or whoever. Eve is great, keep it in the family".
He looked at me nervously like I was a security risk, and gave me the brush-off haha.
But the company I worked for was called Fasa, we made the Mechwarrior series of games. After getting sold to MS, they proceeded to slowly kill Battletech, along with Crimson Skies and some other cool sh*t we were working on. All of it went into their Indiana-Jones-style warehouse where good IP's go to die.
And that is exactly what will happen to Eve if they do the same, for a multitude of reasons.

Edited by: Baneken on 28/03/2011 07:13:28 This problem comes from American corporate law that states that management has to work for the "shareholders best interest" so not for the company's best interest but shareholders. This literally turns into gimme money now! Or we'll sue your ass and sell this crap.

I hope CCP will never go public.
We already have EA. Just look at the garbage they turned Bioware's Dragon age into - and an endless wagon of former good titles before that.

EvE is already going down the path that all of you are *****ing about. Most of their recent decisions and changes have been SOLELY to gain mass subs by trying to appeal to all other player groups. Not only that they are in the process of pushing the plex market through micro-transactions. CCP has already turned their attention away from improving the game to making as much money as they can off of it.

Ea has already destroyed 99999 franchises in the name of profit... Ea/activision/ubisoft(and blizzard, blizzard is simply cunning) are the worst gaming companies, they simply focus on money 100% and dont care about the game at all... I still hate ea for ****ing up cnc franchise and ubisoft failing ruse... Signature removed for being not EVE related. Zymurgist |

currently in EVE you can be an asshat all you like but there are consequences what draws the masses in is being able to be an asshat without consequences and lets face it EVE without risk isn't really all that appealing, sure the game would get a massive amount of players and well after that it would be EVE only in a name and graphics.

They already have WoD investors dedicating all their resources to other products so what would be the difference.....
PLEX for shares, maybe with the players being owners they'd forget some of this marketing crap.

* "solely to gain mass subs" = Fact. WoW exodus after the dumb-down was laser focused on by Eve marketing.
* Micro-transactions, PLEX for remap etc. = Fact. Until backlash showed them how out-of-touch they were.
* CCP is focusing on numbers over quality. = Fact. Hilmar himself featured in a video where he proudly runs around the offices telling devs "600k is the new target". Mostly the devs look at him like "wtf man, we're busy here, **** off"
No tin-foil required.
