Ariedien	Posted - 2011.04.01 18:47:00 - [1] So here I was, having some fun ratting in a little traveled .4 sec system when someone appears in local. Mind you, my alt and I were all by our lonesome, having some fun killing the local Blood Raider devils. While I had been in the system for 5 or 6 days, everyone who passed through replied to my "o/" or "Hello" with nobody hunting me down and I not hunting them down. A couple days ago, someone jumps into the system and I extend my normal welcome. He gives the normal answers of someone who is just passing by. He asks if he knows me and I reply "No, I just say hello to everyone who I see in local." His response was "hmm" and then he is gone. First red flag should have popped up like crazy I go about my business killing more rats. A short while later, I see the same guy in local as I am finishing off getting the wrecks salvaged. I send my alt to the station to dump the gear, and being the cautious person I am, keep him docked since he was not fit to take more than a couple hits. I open dscan and see that he is in a T2 ship as I am warping to the next belt. Upon arriving at the next belt, I find 3 juicy BC rats and start shooting. I press the dscan a couple more times and don't see his ship appear, but 5 seconds later, there he is. By the time I align and try to warp, I am scrambled/webbed. With nowhere to go, no backup, I decide to start firing back, even though i know there is no hope for me. My ship explodes in a dazzling display of metal and bright lights. I avoid being podded and get back to the station. Upset that I lost my ship, but knowing it was my own fault for not docking like I usually do, I sit and wait in the station in my generously donated Burst. Next thing I see in local is his comment "That's what you get for saying hi to anyone in local" (or something very near that since I don't have the chat log) to which I replied with some not so nice things. Is this really an unwritten rule in lo/null sec? Haven't heard of such a thing until now. (BTW, even I called myself a "stupid noob" for not docking up)

Because you will loose it, sooner or later. 2) Do not trust people. Again, you will be scammed sooner or later, so make sure that whatever you can afford to loose anything that you give away.

Both are part of the fun of the game. Just be aware of your surroundings, and pay attention to what particular people and corps get up to. Fly smart to minimize your losses, don't sweat the inevitable losses and remember the other unwritten rule of EVE: Have fun. If you are not, you're doing it wrong. P.S. Do try to shoot someone yourself when they aren't expecting it. It's a good time.

It 1) freaks them out and makes them nervous, which is funny; it 2) forces them to stop doing whatever it is they're doing, which is griefy; and 3) compels them to swap out of their industrial ships into their big guns, which conveniently allows me to make a strategic assessment of their shooty capabilities without worrying immediately about dealing with them.

Try to stay aligned to a safespot or station at all times, which is easier in a long range ship then a close range fit ship. That still isn't a guarantee for safety, as he can go and sit in the next belt waiting for you to come to him.

Generally speaking I trust NO ONE in low sec except well known friends who happen to be with me. Doesn't matter if unknown pilot is in a shuttle, industrial or even just a pod, they are still dangerous because they have friends, copies, alliance mates, a PVP ship docked nearby, etc.

His reason was because I said "Hi" when he wrote in Local. Whether he was already hunting or not, I don't know, but seeing how he came back after probably 10-20 minutes, I am guessing he went to get his PvP ship. Regardless, I have been and will be even more cautious of others. Glad to know that being friendly isn't frowned upon, at least judging by the replies.

However as pointed out saying hi immediatly gives away you are being active , something you don't allways want in low-sec or 0.0 .Same thing goes for when someone enters your system , leaves and then within a short time returns in the system again , assume there is a 99% chance he is there to kill one of the locals. Jump in system , warp to gate and scan on the way for wrecks.Lock down where the target probably is.Leave system , approach gate you came from and re-enter the system and warp to the next belt he probably is heading.Works like a charm a lot of times.

Once you get them angry or frustrated you can start smack talking them more directly and questioning their belief that they have skill, also question how good the feeling in eve really is? Thats how you do it. or just find a 100 au system with a eccmed ship and sit there. yea but you need to make them believe they have a chance, so you need to be scan able, but the trick is to not stay in one spot longer than 20 seconds. This way it will take them longer to get bored and leave you alone. Giving you more time to extract rage and tears through smack talk and trolling. If they try to scan you out and realize your unprobable they will get bored and leave far faster.

There was one pirate type that would come visiting, and each time he came, I would dock up. We exchanged some good-natured taunting, and eventually started conversations over some shared interests discovered in our bios. Eventually I stopped docking up when he enter local. After three times of this, he discovered that I had grown complacent, hunted me down, and killed my Myrmidon. Despite that, we were still friendly and had a nice convo after my assplosion :) Lesson learned: pirates can be friendly and remain piratey too!

Jaik7	Posted - 2011.04.12 15:47:00 - [45] it is not a rule, just kinda funny. one time, i was traveling through lowsec, and i said hi to someone, expecting him to dock up. but when i began rattting, i saw his drake (still named _____'s drake) on dscan, and informed him that warrior drones are the preffered type to use on angels, and not hobgoblins. a few seconds later, he came to dock at the station where i was sitting at 200k waiting for him. little did he know i had a pve caracal made of paper and couldnt have broken his tank if i'd tried.

They generally play the tough guys , only when there is 20 of their corpmates next gate or when they kill a T1 cruiser in a BS. I would not worry too much about them, just stay aligned when ratting and use Dscan regularly.
