...assuming people here watch sci-fi tv shows ;)
Just 3! otherwise tl;dr :P
For me:
1. Babylon 5 2. BSG (new) 3. Firefly
B5 was just epic! I usually cycle through the series on dvd once a year... apart from the last season. The shadow war was the best part. I want's a B5 hardcore sandbox mmo, but no one listens to Zathras. |

I was going to say Lost for number one but I'm unsure if that's sci fi so left it out. also thinking of my top sci fi shows has made me realise that I really need to buy the show Lexx, it was completley ridiculous and I loved it. |

I watched Firefly really hard. I didn't grab me. But would like to have seen it have a chance to hit stride.

Haven't finished all of Warehouse 13 yet, but I'm really liking it so far. My wife got me into it. In the cat-and-mouse game that is low sec, there is no shame in learning to be a better mouse. |

Just 3? Here, have six:
Babylon 5: This show sets the standard for how to execute a planned story arc. Comments in season 1 allude to events that don't occur until season 4. The universe is rich, the cultures are familiar yet alien, and the combat scenes are something to behold, even today. Easily my favorite show.
Firefly: If you're into sci-fi and you don't know why this is on the list, you're doing it wrong.
Farscape: I'm about to finish watching this for the third time, and it's brilliant.
Doctor Who: Bowties are cool. RUN!!!
Stargate: SG-1 is my favorite, but I liked them all.
Space: Above and Beyond: an early victim of Fox's campaign against scifi that also killed Firefly, this was a great show that didn't get a chance to succeed.
Popular sci-fi that I don't care for:
Battlestar Galactica: This show has some of the best moments in sci-fi, but they are the peaks between vast valleys of bore. The show becomes far too mired in social commentary and being a soap opera for the main characters.
Star Trek: I find the technology and the universe of ST to be absurd. Every time I watch Trek for any length of time I end up wondering what the hell is wrong with humans of the future that they lack the imagination to push their technology to its logical limits.
Lexx: This is the one sci-fi series I started and never finished. I just found it to be that bad. The Skunkworks is recruiting. -áhttps://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1540711#post1540711 |

Firefly was very good but too short-lived, sadly. Look not to FW and metagaming circlejerk isk-faucetry. Look not to thy brothers-in-arms who will not undock without 10-man advantage and off-grid links. Look not to the feudal wastes north and south, to mad throngs of pubescent wangdanglers. Nay, but whither wilt thou find thy virtue and glory, thy solo and small-gang PvP? Whither wane goodfights for goodfights' sake? |

Farscape. Dr. Who. Err....... Stargate SG-1. Firefly was great but was really just a western in space. BSG was great but there's no point in watching it again due to spoilers. Bablyon V was great, but I don't miss it for some reason. Stargate SG-1 is inferior to all of the these shows, but it qualifies as the TV equivalent of 'comfort food'. =/

I agree! I always thought it was Steven Fry who ruined the movie by turning it into a 'luvvy-fest'
But after going to the 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Radio Show LIVE" the other day which starts with snatches of interviews with Douglas Adams.
Quote: Douglas 'The Screenplay version will be a lot, lot different. Um! & also utterly & completely contradictory to what's gone before, which is a very important thing to do' Interviewer 'Which should annoy the Fans' Douglas 'Well, that's an important thing to do as well'
So it was always Douglas' intention to 'Pass water' off the fans with the movie! Sneaky and it worked

Honorable mentions because picking only three just isn't fair: Firefly, Star Trek TNG, Space Precinct 2040, Doctor Who, Lost in Space, Starhunter (one of the most "EVE like" shows I've encountered), Battlestar Galactica (original), Babylon 5, and last but certainly not least Lexx.
