Server downtime is really destroying my experience with Eve. It currently occupies over half of the time that I have available to play.

Firstly, during Beta the server downtime was at a differnt time of day. Had I known that the downtime was going to move smack bang into the middle of my "prime time" after launch I would probably have never bought the game.

Secondly the server downtime is usually at least an hour and a half, I have never seen it take only an hour as advertised and I don't know why they persist with this blatant lie.

Then to add insult to injury they have these extra extended downtimes which usually mean I can't log in at all for that entire evening.

I usually get home from work at about 7:30pm (9:30GMT), after cooking and eating dinner I am usually ready to start playing at about 8:30pm (10:30GMT) but due to the nature of Eve it is pretty much impossible to get anything worthwhile done inside half an hour so it's not worth logging in.

So I wait till after downtime which is usually around 10:30pm (12:30GMT) then I get to play for about an hour and a half before I have to go to bed so I can get up at 6:30AM to go to work.

So that means that during the 3&1/2 hours when I can play Eve (10:30->2:00GMT) I get to play for 1&1/2 hours and only cos I am burning the midnight oil to do so. In fact last week I was so tired and fed up that I didn't play for a whole week cos I needed to sleep.

I wish they would reduce or eliminate the need for downtime, I have never heard of a MMORPG that requires over an hour of downtime every single day.

At the very least they could rotate the time of day that it is done so that it's not just one group of players who are constantly affected by it.

Lovly addict :-).

The extended server downtime gave me the opportunity to buy:

- 2 bins of mineral water,
- pound of cherries,
- chives,
- eggs,
- 1/4 water melon,
- 5 x 20 kg cat litter,
- 96 cans of cat food.

Which means I can roughly play 3 months in a row now. Cats got to eat and I am using liquid fertiliser.

Got work CCP. You saved my day! And now no downtimes for the next 3 months please.

Scnr.

Looks to me like you're in the same timezone as I am. And I agree, the dowtime is highly annoying. But, in my experience it's rarely longer than 1 hour 15 minutes,a nd I've experienced a number of times where it was an hour, even a few where it was less than an hour. Get yourself the eve status program that resides in your systray, available from EVE-I.com. It can give and audible warning as to when the server has come back online, giving you a better chance of getting more time in the game. You'll find that in most cases the server is back up ontime, and CCP generally give a warning of extended downtime.

Well fact is you can't satisfie everyone... if you set downtime to 15:00 or 16:00 other ppl will cry.

Fact is that 11:00 is right in the middle of working day in iceland and therefore the right time for maintenence since it has to be done at some time. And it seems as if staff has to be around the servers.

I don't expect them to put it right in the middle of US or EU prime time and I appreciate that they would want to do it during CCP office hours. But at the very least they could vary it from between 10:00GMT to 16:00GMT so that I could have a downtime free night sometimes.

ôScheduled downtime for Tranquility is 11:00 û 12:00 GMT each dayö

Eve has now, by my reckoning, been running 56 days (8 weeks). Could someone please tell me on how many of those 56 days you were able to log back into game at 12:00 GMT and start playing? And by playing I do mean being able to log into your char and not wait 497 seconds for start-up. Obviously aside from days like today when there are issues to be resolved. Once? Twice? Ever? Please CCP, donÆt state something you categorically cannot abide by. Rather put: ôScheduled downtime is from 11:00 GMT till we get back from the pub sometime after noon.ö (IÆll settle for ô11:00 GMT till some time after noon.ö) Its called ôbeing honest with your paying customers.ö

...
Extended downtime 1st July 10:00-13:30 GMT
We had to extend the downtime more than anticipated. This was in part because more time was spent on taking backups of all persistent data, both to eliminate all chance of data loss during the database maintenance and in preparation to move a new backup to the Test server as part of patch preparations.
...

Heh, they were late even from that schedule :)

YES! i agree! this getting to be a bit much!

Some players (ALL) plan their day around the downtime ie try to get online at noon eve time.

To put it another way, CCP just F***ed off their entire customer base!
