I would like to see these as well, maybe those who did not make the commentator cut can do a livestream/Justin.tv commentary as the matches progress. -------------

Umm, wait. Did I miss something? Is there something indicating that they would not be uploaded to YouTube afterwards as in past tournaments?

+1 for this, please allow a volunteer to record them atleast so we get them on Youtube afterwards. Shouldn't cost you anything, just give him/her one of those devhax camera ships for the weekend or whatever.

While having the same expert team commenting on the preliminaries has been a great advantage in the past, as the experts got a chance to make themselves feel comfortable at commentating before the 'real deal', it can not be stressed enough how important it is for the viewers to at least get to see the plain video footage of the matches and hopefully before the studio weekend. It kind of ruins one aspect of the tournament as my biggest enjoyment of the tournament is to watch how the teams and setups evolve overtime and I find it hard to believe I'm the only one who wouldn't like the fact that there were deciding fights fought, where some teams proved their worth, in the shadows. But really, isn't this tournament partly about the spectacle. If you're going through all the effort to plan and organize the preliminaries I think it's a huge waste of time, effort and space minerals to not make the final push to deliver the greatness to the loving audience :)

FFS CCP, is it really that hard?
I'm sure the community would stream them.

I have commented on this in another thread.
I believe CCP knows these 5 man rounds are going to be crap, and they are trying to hide how badly they bungled this by not showing these rounds at all.
They have gone on record as saying they will not be live televised, OR uploaded to youtube afterwards. There will be no record of these except perhaps some internet radio commentary.

This seems like a total PR mistake. One of the main purposes of AT is to boost people interest in EVE.
Why we even have qualifiers if no broadcast is doneā. What is the advantage of that? There is going to be effort in organising from both sides (CCP and players) and that effort will be virtually unnoticed. Even in the same Allianceā it seems ridiculous that you have to relay on other people story to find out what happened.

Come on CCP what are the blocks stopping you from frapsing and dumping on Youtube ???? These will be golden as the 1st time youve ran it like this.
There is enough support I would bet there is a neutral pilot who could fraps it if you would allow them to. Motty

Edited by: Terios Corvalis on 20/05/2011 13:17:01 CCP should have done a real pre-qualifier round for every alliance who wants to enter, even without broadcasting. And no need for auction. The extra entry fee would have covered the lost auction slot's cost.

After seeing all the utterly terrible alliances who got into AT (and the good pvp alliances that missed out) I'm not really fussed that CCP won't be broadcasting the qualifiers.

So this weekend is there any chance to follow the tourney if I am not participating?
Any eve radio station, in game channel or anything ?
No promise of youtube later posting?
Is it forbidden for people involved to fraps the games and then post them? And if not how can we convince more teams to do it, shaming CCP for their lack of professionalism?

What about ISD...last time they had a nice page with statistics and short game description... Personally I would appreciate something similar this year.

Edited by: Mercurial Blood on 26/05/2011 06:13:54 There are a tonne of different dynamics within the 5v5 setups, and it gives an opportunity to see a uniquely different side of the tournament.
I understand that CCP has this whole idea of making a huge production of the alliance tournament, however, it would take relatively few man-hours for GM to simply lock up all ships on grid in the tournament fashion for each fight and record that. No major camera work would be required, and no commentating is necessary. Uploading videos to youtube is free, and there would be almost no editing required as there is no second studio feed to switch to, etc.
I really cannot see doing this consuming a large amount of time/resources, and it would do well to promote the alliance tournament, building up to the livecasts. What I mean to say is, compared to what is probably a huge expenditure for the EVE TV broadcasts (full studio crew, livestream, lighting/filming professionals, flights and accommodations for announcers, etc), paying one employee for what would amount to probably ~40 man hours of work is not that much, considering the amount of footage it would give to the community.
Also, if you want to go pro tier low cost filming, organize for some of your chosen announcers to be present via THE INTERNET and perhaps record their commentation over VOIP. But I'd like to stress that I'd be more than happy with a simple video recording.

Why not frapsing the Matches anyway while you're on grid? Hoepfully the Community will get some sort of AAR, otherwise some of your costumers get very annoyed

It probably worth pointing out that from the last 2 tournaments on YouTube the fights on the first 4 days (which were the equivalent of the 5 v 5 fights) have significantly more views than those on the last 2 days with 1 or 2 exceptions.
No doubt there are a number of factors behind that but it is quite telling.
