ECM should have diminishing returns, maybe as little as 5% reduced strength per successful cycle to discourage perma-jamming.
It's kind of ridiculous that I can perma-jam a T2 Thrasher with an 8-day old plexing alt, then spend the next ten minutes slowly whittling him down with 20dps...

Combination of luck + matar ships having low sensor strength. Certainly not a definitive example of ship balance. There are plenty of lolmails out ther where grifs/bb's/faclons/rooks somehow perma-jam their target to death with damn lucky rng, but there are far more situations where they had to gtfo after a jam missed.
That is a halarious kill though.

The idea was that I would jam and tackle the Thrasher and let the friendly plex NPCs beat him up, but we drifted off the button and they seemed to lose interest after the first minute or so.
By the time I finally popped him, we were 160km of the button...

ECM is good against bait & blob tactics and critical in guerilla warfare.

Strange that ECM is so OP, so broken and yet you don't see it literally everywhere you go. Remember the nano age? Broken, and was used by pretty much anyone. Dramials and Cynabals? While not broken, they are OP and you see em all the time. How about Rooks? the last time i saw one was....damn, can't remember, i see more pilgrims than rooks. Scorpion? hmm...oh yeah, last time i saw one was when i was spinning it in the dock, and it stayed there. Blackbird then? It's cheap and fitted with way OP mods, that'll be everywhere...wait, no i haven't seen that about either. Can't say for sure how many thousands of falcons i saw, they were mostly cloaked at the time.
I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! I want to smell dark matter! Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I'm a machine! And I can know much more. |

Takes one to know one I suppose Personally left for Eve 5 years ago just prior to the patch that would eliminate 100% stun-locks/fear chains .. If a PvE game such as WoW recognizes that feature as broken, then surely a PvP game such as Eve would avoid the same mechanic like the plague.

You should get out more, living in a blob (which is the only place ECM is not omni-present) hardly gives a good indication of anything not related to server performance. Practically all ships with a dronebay are packing ec-xxx drones these days and a vast majority of small gangs have at least one ECM boat (gate camping crews excepted for obvious reasons).

Last ECM boat I saw was a scorpion in a fleet fight. It was one of the first to jump through, got primaried, and died about 10 seconds later. Last couple days before that? I can remember a BB, a couple falcons floating around. I think one jumped into our gang and our tackle failed to decloak it before it got away.
ECM is not OP. Being a bad game mechanic doesn't make it op. You see something being bad doesn't mean its bad in all possible ways. Some healthfood tastes bad, but its not bad for you. Some fast food is bad for you, but it can taste pretty good.
