Congratulations, you now ALSO dismantled the entire reason for statistics existing at all in the first place ! Since, oh, you know, you can't possibly have a true random sampling, and you can't have true randomness simulated in software, and any result of that is automatically meaningless ! :le sigh:

I for one thank the both of you for convincing me that degree level math is not for me.

Edited by: Tsual on 22/04/2011 23:52:24 Okay that degree of math isn't something for me but when considering that each point can be considered a knot with 2/4/6 connections to other knots and that movement in 1D and 2D stays on the same plane (1D is comparable to a movement in 2D where the second dimension is static) while 3D movement is more comparable to movement on two different planes (one horizontal and one vertical when imagining a Euclidian R3) then at least for the 3D case it seems unlikely that the chance to return to the point of origin at least once is 100%.
Besides this reasoning I'm mathematical at loss.

Too bad you can't fix yourself, because you don't realize you have a problem _

Edited by: Netheranthem on 23/04/2011 10:54:44 Since I wasn't able to solve those problems myself, I tried to look at what would happen if you take an infinity of dimensions (Countable, as I'm nice) You'd have a probability of 0 to get back to your starting point.
So we construct a sequence representing the probabilty to get back to the starting point and since it converges to 0, that means we can get arbitrarily close to 0 by adding dimensions, thus, from a finite amount of dimensions (That I'm not going to count) it will no longer be 1.
Whitehound, if that doesn't convince you, I doubt anything will :)

Netheranthem, if you actually had read the thread in its entire length then you would not be posting here.
This is me being nice. --

No, if you knew that I had a problem then you would also know what it was and you would be able to help me. Do you then see yourself succeeding? No.
Am I making sense to you? Or am I posting comments like "Orange"? --
