Edited by: Kelheim on 25/04/2011 17:33:03 Edited by: Kelheim on 25/04/2011 17:29:48 For the last two weeks, a datacenter in Dallas, TX operated by global crossing has been randomly dropping packets for about 20-30 seconds at a time. This has happened throughout the day.
The total numbers come to about a 3-4% packet loss and cause multiple disconnects (about 10+ times a day) to the eve servers.
I have attempted to contact my ISP and global crossing themselves but no one understood what I was talking about. (My ISP sent a tech out to my home and verified everything was working fine..) I would have hoped that my ISP would contact global crossing and inform them of the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this problem of constant random packet loss?
I will post pingplotter graphs when I get home from work, Thanks |

My graph is similar to the one above, problems started with incursion 1.4 and have similar issues, disconnects all the time, "socked closed" "connection to server lost" tons of packet loss, especially when multiple clients are open. My isp says everything is fine, Global crossing had no response really. They said everything was fine.

Edited by: Ra Zepnara on 26/04/2011 05:57:06 I have been having problems with GBLX too. I rarely connect through the DAL hub, or I don't see that I do. I can see the LON hub, and it drops packets horribly.
Tonight... it has been ~25% lost over the last hour.
I have been logging this for at least 2 weeks, though not to such severity. I suspect that it has been going on for several months as I have been getting disconnects for a while.
Also, my ticket with CCP has been open for almost 2 weeks with little apparent action.
Also also, I contacted my ISP (Suddenlink) about the issue... we'll see if they actually get back to me in their stated "24-48 hours."

Suddenlink came out to the house and checked everything on my end. Everything is fine here, but still getting disconnects all the time for the last 11 days.
My corpmate who lives in the same town gets disconnected at the exact same times as I do.

I'm having the same problem through the DAL hub. It hurts my enjoyment of the game especially since I'm in WHs doing all kinds of OPs and when I suddenly D/C while doing anything it's a mad scramble to log back on and hope I didn't get my ship blown up or podded.
What can we do? My ISP says I'm connected fine. This has been happening since Jan.

This is the exact same thing i'm experiencing, for the most part packets are passing through LON3 or some sort... with route changes every time packet loss starts, and then route changes back when its over. Something is seriously wrong with something in global crossing's network i'm guessing.

I'm going to start(well, continue) by sending an e-mail to [email protected] explaining that the route between 64.211.195.141 -> 204.245.39.42 is having serious packet loss issues. If I don't get a response I will start calling them at 1-800-404-7714 and posting stuff on their twitter and facebook.

Suddenlink Guys : I just purchased a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and during its install they moved my IP to a different internal segment. My route to EVE is now through above.net rather than gblx.net. Global Crossing is still having issues, but for those Suddenlink customers affected, this might be our possible solution to our issues with Global Crossing. (I hate to pay 100 dollars to bypass someone else's network errors, but it seems to be working now)

Open up cmd and enter tracert 87.237.38.200 Should look like this:
C:\Users\Admin>tracert 87.237.38.200
Tracing route to 87.237.38.200 over a maximum of 30 hops
4 10 ms 11 ms 10 ms cdm-66-76-30-37.tylrtx.suddenlink.net [66.76.30.37] 5 11 ms 10 ms 16 ms 64.211.195.141 6 137 ms 129 ms 129 ms po6-20G.ar6.LON3.gblx.net [67.16.142.106] 7 122 ms 124 ms 123 ms 204.245.39.42 8 124 ms 124 ms 125 ms 87.237.36.26 9 127 ms 123 ms 123 ms 87.237.38.200

If you see GBLX in there anywhere, the chance is pretty high it's causing a problem.

I just got off the phone with suddenlink and after running a tracert and sending them the pingplotter info. I got the "We will forward it to our engineers, have a nice day", Ohwell.
Edit- Raah also try to use pingplotter while playing here is the info.
Pingplotter information In order to thoroughly test your connection to the EVE server then I recommend that you download a program called pingplotter which is available here http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_2.exe If you are running a hardware firewall (SPI Firewall) on your router you will need to disable it, as otherwise this program won't work.
After starting up pingplotter do the following in the program: Under "Adress to trace" put the following value in the box: 87.237.38.200 In the bottom left corner in the box "# of times to trace" put the value 1500 In the bottom left corner in the box "Trace Intervals" change it to 2.5 seconds In the bottom left corner in the box "Samples to include" change it to 1500. Click on "Trace" button in the bottom left corner. When it's completed save it as the sample set ( pp2 ) attach the file to the petition and send us.

There was some weird activity around 1500 CST. Since then, I've dropped a few packets (singles, not 30 seconds worth, barely worth mentioning actually) but otherwise it appears to be somewhat fixed.
Note: Prior to 1500, I never experienced single packet loss. Only huge chunks.

More like a huge jump in latency (like there was a ton of traffic going through the node) on all the GBLX hops, but no where else. All prior hops were dead quiet...
And, I just got dc'd.

In the mean time, I set up a SSH Tunnel to someone who doesn't have GBLX as their backbone. My connection is just fine through that.

I am also having problems. I did a traceroute and kept a constant ping at the last 3 hops. They are:
Hop 9 204.245.39.38 - Never fails Hop 10 87.237.36.250 - Fails from time to time Hop 11 87.237.38.200 - Fails at exactly the same time as the previous one.
As the last one is the server (or its proxy or whatever, but is what we can ping), the problem seems to be happening between 9 and 10.

Does anyone know if changing our DNS to something else would be a quick workaround? I changed to google DNS and it still drops me. Sometimes as many as 10+ times an hour. In fact in the last 30 minutes alone, I was dropped so many times that I just stopped trying. Everything on my end is fine too.

Same here, Suddenlink subscriber in West Texas. Getting dropped back to desktop every few minutes. I've tried so many things, nothing is working. Here is the Global Crossing server I'm hitting which I'm assuming is dropping the packets:

So, are options are:
- Use a VPN and only play limited PVE. - Move out of state in hopes your ISP doesn't route you through Dallas. - Quit playing Eve Online.
Maybe a mass exodus of players canceling their subscriptions might make them care a wee bit more.

Same thing here.
Not just patch 1.4 - the atualization to 1.4 last week. I think it was 1.4.3 or so.

In order to try and get some of the connection issues fixed we've forced the incoming connections to Tranquility to take another route so the connection will not be routed via Global Crossing. This should hopefully fix some of the issues in this thread. Observe this change will only address the problems those who are connecting to Tranquility via Global Crossing.
Those of you routed via Global Crossing, please update here if this has made any change for you.

This is great news! At work now, so I won't be able to see if I still get DC'd til later, but I'm really excited about going home and logging in to test if the problems still exist.

Yup confirming that it is routed differently, I will leave myself logged in for a while now to see if I get disconnected.

The reroute seemed to have done the trick for me as well. Monitored Ping Plotter with no packet loss in the past hour! Will continue to see how long it last.

The reroute seems to be sending me through hell and back, but at least thats not goon space.
Anyway, 30 minutes logged on now and no DCs. Will update in a couple hours with the situation.

Lol nice Laura.
Yeah no DC since the change, been about 40 minutes now. Normally I would have been disconnected about 10 times.

I'm in Brazil and I'm also getting disconnected every few minutes, it's been impossible to play. Not sure if it's related to the last patch as I had been so busy before it that I couldn't play much. Any workaround for this issue guys? Thanks.

Here is a copy of my reply ingame:
Got home from work, trying it out. It's even more screwed now. I have to relog after EVERY gate because it locks up graphics wise. After going through a jumpgate my UI disappears completely and will only return after I minimize EVE and bring it back up, but then I just sit looking at myself floating in nowhere. The Overview pulls up NOTHING. my speed sits at a random value (currently 41.3 not moving at all) and all the UI windows still work.
I can look up things in the market and such, but I can't get anywhere doing this. WTF is happening this is insane.

Hmm, just had a jump that wasn't a fail-jump.
Then another...
So I guess maybe I was just having some random hiccup...
Also so far no disconnects

I replied to your petition with some instructions to try and figure out why this is still happening in your case, or got even worse.

Hello there, I'm from Slovenia and I've had my scanner freeze/ship not responde/not load system about 10times in the last hour. The first disconnect occured around 1800evetime, then I had to run an errand and ever since I got back eve has either been freezing every couple of minute for a few seconds or freezing for a while longer then disconnecting. I've been running ping plotter for the past 10minutes. Every 2-3minutes it reports 100% packetloss for about 5 seconds. I played eve all day yesterday and I had 0 disconnects or freezes.

I am playing from Brazil and it is working fine now.
Tracert show a few more hops, ping is around 250 from a previous 225. The difference is negligible.
Thanks, CCP!
(I just hope that, when I get home, in another town, things will be good there, too. The ISP is the same, so I believe it will be OK).

Could you please file a petition about this an include the pingplotter pp2 file that you've collected so far so we can have a look. Please file the petition under Technical/Connection Issues. You can attach the file by accessing your petition via the website, or you can send us an e-mail at [email protected] and attach the file in your e-mail.

I mentioned what we did on my first post to this thread on page 2. "In order to try and get some of the connection issues fixed we've forced the incoming connections to Tranquility to take another route so the connection will not be routed via Global Crossing. ".
