Coming back after a break. A while ago it seemed most people had 2 cyno alts if they had a capital ship.
But has that changed ....are cynos so common that if its a corps activity its mostly covered ? Or is it always better to have your own back up , just in case?

First - I don't fly capitals. I could in a fairly short time window but I don't.
Reason: I use 1 account and I'm "not in the mood" to get another one. I do fine with this 1 account.
When I researched flying capitals, I was told most all of them have 1+ cyno alts, on different accounts, to move around.
For primary combat functions; wars, hot drops, etc.; you can expect someone will probably provide a cyno for the jumps. For all other movement...
The reason is simple enough: It's kind of the same logic as "babysitting miners" or "scouting ahead" for gatecamps as someone moves through hostile areas in a big ship. Few are willing to sit around doing little/nothing at the whim of others. Rarely? Sure! Regularly? ...
So yes; you'll want an alt or 2 that can light the cyno's for you.

I have two capital ship pilots. My other three accounts currently have six potential cyno pilots on them (3 mains with cyno abilities, 3 pure cyno alts). I plan to train another 3 cyno pilots on those accounts in the near future.
Generally, getting anywhere from your starting point lowsec station takes two-three cyno pilots (depending on jump skills, mine are maxed). For ease of movement and safety in numbers, I like to be able to jump both my accounts at the same time and can often jump right back again on the same cyno chain if I plan it properly.
I don't like depending on other folks for my cynos. --- This doesn't even seem to be a regular case of rats fleeing the sinking ship. Seems more like the rats are on fire, the ship is on fire, and the sea is full of drunk Russians. - Jacob Etienne |

All my alts can light a cyno, it doesn't take much training to get cyno3 which allows you to use most frigs for cargo room.
most of them have cyno 5 though and can fly recon for Blops.

Five accounts. Four have variations of capital ships (Super, Carriers, couple JFs, Rorqual) available.
All free alt spots have cyno training. So, uh... 11 cyno alts?
Yeah, it's getting out of hand. But to move four+ jump-capable ships around when my buddies aren't online, it sure is useful. --

1 account. Too cheap to pay for 2, too lazy to earn enough isk to support more. 0 personal alts. Its what corps and alliance mates are for.

Carrier pilots usually have 1 or none but most serious supercap pilots seem to have 2 or 3 and it's not uncommon for hotdroppers to team up in order to pool alts.

Comes a point you just train cyno 3 on all your characters without thinking about it.....

Cyno 3, Infomorh 4, lots and lots of crap all over the place.
I have three cyno alts. One is at a dedicated highsec exit most of the time, but each one has at least 3 JC's planted to all the points I use, plus three of my mains have the cyno option with implantless JC's when needed.

In any decent sized corp its pretty easy to get cynos (assuming you are taking your capital along same logistic routes), you probably don't need one at all. Of course it could be considered rather rude to just ride on other people all the time . . . .

Two cyno alts on my second account. That said, one of those toons has 50M+ SP and is a capital pilot himself. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |
