Politics is the only thing what keeps this game going. Then you fight for a cause, otherwise we'd all be pirates.

So you mean that the pirates of our RL history weren't actually pirates unless they only commited their deeds in some nation's national waters? (0.0 would be akin to international waters then)
Funny, because they did indeed fall under the definition of piracy.

Edited by: Beringe on 13/02/2005 21:41:41 Everything is politics.
Every alliance, every discussion on corporation policy or relations, every war, every victory and every defeat is all politics.
You might as well close down the forums.
EDIT: The only way to remove the political factor from this game would be to make it into a single player game. We'd all have fun NPCing and mining solo... ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

If you don't like politics EVE isn't the game for you. May I recommend pong, a classic by all accounts. ------------------------------------- // The views expressed by this poster are not the views of the poster's corporation, alliance, planet or television network... but they should be. |

If you can't handle politics leave it to those who can and be a pliable peon.
After all there's a use for your kind too, with a big STFU sticker over the mouth. No disrespect intended but seriously, the amount of **** started by lowranking members within organizations talking and acting way out of line is staggering.
I know I have a big mouth myself but I most times have an agenda and more seldom anything to drink, whilst the opposite seems to be the default.
Economics and ideals should dictate terms even here or else we could just have magic declare war mushrooms popping up in space to shoot.

So why don't you? Other people talking politics hardly stops you from doing that, and there's plenty of precedence.
You can easily decide not to be a part of politics in this game, keep your opinions to yourself and just gank people. You'll miss out on a lot, but who cares, right? ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."

to me a pirate is a person or (small) group of people who hold no alligance to anyone. but attack whoever they want to get what they need/want. bribing ect should be used.
as for politics, they are awsome it makes the game fun. any game that isnt based off of player based content(cough wow cough) tends to get old after a while. games that you play were you can acomplish somthing that is what keeps it interesting and so many of us here. (i think at least)

Political power = the ability to influence or control other people or groups of people.
Pirates participate in politics as much as anyone.

When you exercise political power you're using force. And force, my friends, is violence; the supreme authority from which all other authorities derive.

I think thats a direct quote from Robert A. Heinlein from Starship troopers the book.
If it was intended as a cutting remark, maybe you sould read more...

He wasn't, starship troopers was written to be controversial. Left wingers say it says fascism is great, right wingers say that it makes the right wing bad. Anyone who has read it know's it is neither.
Perhaps if you don't like military things you should read "A Stranger in a Strange Land", that talks about aliens and god, think it got banned in a few places though. Again it is very controversial.
He is one of the best sci-fi writers, and is very political. I'm suprised that no-one else brought him up sooner.
But its okay, because his was American, and us Euro's are so safe with our superior attitude we can ignore them. Is that not politics and ignorance?
I'm English, and there was an old council that the saxons or danes used when they came to this country that we adapted. I can't remember the name, but it was known as the "weapon vote". Decisions were made on how many swords could be raised. Politics is power, and can destroy even more effectively as any battleship. But maybe that is because I am British and we used something called Gun boat diplomacy. That is why New York is called that, and not New Amsterdam afaik.

And why not? Saying that is just as ignorant and narrow-minded as saying that you would never be caught dead reading Fitzgerald, or Hemmingway. I remember that a friend of mine used to slag me off because I read authors like Michael Crichton and similar pop authors from time to time. Then he (justifiably) slagged me for reading Dan Brown's "Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons". My friend is, to put it lightly, a goddamn book snob.
But so what if I like frothy novels? I enjoy those books (except for Dan Brown's work. Shoddy writing, bad character, etc.), just as I enjoy Hemmingway. Starship Troopers is actually a very nice treatise on military-centric societies, and even though it is per se written in a narrative obviously in favour of military rule, it doesn't shy away from showing the faults such a system has.
But no. Sorry. It's militaristic tripe, because a character in the book recited that quotation, and because the movie didn't have the screen time to explore the book properly beyond the fighting.

Politicians should be rounded up....put in a field with landmines and made to breakdance.
They start all the crap and make the poor asshats that follow them pick up the pieces.

Anyone who talks anyone else into doing something can be considered a politician.
Right now, you are participating in politics, by (ironically) suggesting that everyone who participates in politics should be killed. ------------------------------------------- "My main griveance with the Caldari state was that once I had finished my work for them, they wanted me dead."
