Since the update, do the agents just give mining missions? No courier or encounters?
At what level do the missions start having rats?
Also mainly, is it worth as opposed to regular mining?
I briefly had a look at some guides but they don't go into much detail/made before update.

Edited by: Hermann Fegelein on 30/05/2011 16:10:35 Mining and Courier Missions are hardly profitable. The real money in PVE come from combat related missions.
Look at this.
Believe it or not, mining involves more courier missions than actual mining.
If you want to mine do actual mining and if you want to be a courier than become an actual courier.

Edited by: Zoroa Aulx-Gao on 30/05/2011 16:12:42 I had thought though that with the changes to missions they made security 100% encounter, so surely it's the same for mining and distribution?
EDIT: I take it you mean mine the ore in this system and take it to this system X number of jumps away.

Edited by: Shanda Lesial on 30/05/2011 19:04:49 Level 4 mining missions usually involve about 30,000 m3 ore, 20 m3 ice, or 420 units of gas. The rats that show up are never higher then cruisers and are drones and local belt rats. The pay is about 1 million + 1 million time bonus, and about 4000lp with no LP boosting skills.

I thought it was interesting how fighting mining mission belt rats give an aggression timer. I think they really are belt rats. I wonder if there are ever officer spawns? Be cool to get a true sansha rat that drops a 30 mil isk implant on a lvl 1 mining mission!
And they show up on lvl 1's.

Mining missions also have you mining non-standard ores, making T2 strip miners useless. T1 Strips are the order of the day!

Mission spawns don't give aggro timers, but if you mine in 0.8 or lower you will get normal belt rats. Belt rats will often show up when mining inside combat missions, and in grav sites. I suspect it has something to do with using mining lasers... gas harvesters don't seem to attract rats. And I have never seen belt rats appear in any site unless someone was mining.
I assume that you could get a commander spawn, but I've never seen one outside a belt.

20m3 ice or 20k m3 ice?

20k m3 ice - lots of rats, cruisers and frigate drones and belt rats, warp in at 12k from ice 45k m3 ore - usually one wave (sometimes just ONE) rat (only seen frigates), warp in at 40k from ore 4250 m3 gas - no rats (never seen one), warp in at 40k from gas
reward (in 0.5 space) is generally 1mil + 1mil and 4k ish LP.
I'm finding the money quite good. With perfect skills, it should take ~29 min for gas (possible to do it in one trip with some ships) 30 min for ice (two trips needed though) 20 min for ore... crystals do matter but you have to read the description to figure out which ore is equivalent to which... I suggest jet can mining this as you can drop cargo expanders from your hulk and fit mining upgrades, leave with 10k and return with an Iteron V (with AB and tractor cause you'll warp in at 40k away) and get the rest.

oh yeah... and on L4 mining missions I've only ever seen Gneiss and Dark Ochre look alikes... That could be dumb luck though but I've had 3-4 of each without anything else showing up

Maybe I'm missing something, but that doesn't seem like good money at all. What are you valuing the LP at?

If you can get 4k LP and 2M in rewards for half an hour's worth of work, that's 12M per hour at only 1k isk/LP.
That's actually quite good for highsec mining.

Oh I thought we were comparing it to professions that are actually worthwhile when talking about "good money". 12 million per hour is NOT good money.

Read the bottom line: that's good for highsec mining. Not everyone has the skills to pilot a marauder or the corp to go to nullsec/wh

A) 12mil an hour for high-sec AFK work is quite good IMO B) The 4k LP was before factoring in mining connections... so really like 5.5k LP in practice C) If all you're getting is 1mil per 1000 LP then you're not looking hard enough
I'm averaging about 30mil an hour right now and I don't have maxed mining skills or mining connections.

This is about on the money. Some of the ores are closer when you warp in. I have been doing mining missions since the change and have seen the ore equivalents of: Dark Ochre, Arkanor, Crokite, and Gneiss. T2 crystals do work. All my socials are at level 4 and I pull an average 1.2mil reward and 1.2mil bonus with 5-6k lps. (.6 system) With a juicy BPC, the lp conversion is around 2k each. I have an alt in an Itty IV (about 20km3) to haul while training for an Orca so every mission takes no longer than 30 minutes - sometimes faster. I do have near perfect skills though as well as a Hulk, Mack, and Raven (4 gas harvester IIs) for whatever the mission requires.
The story line missions that pop can be anything though as I've had both a combat and courier missions so far.

Wrong. The non-standard ores are variations of standard ores and can be mined with T2 strip miners / crystals.
