I still very much don't understand why they think Dust 514 on consoles is a good idea.

No. If it flops, the resources will simply be let go (or be moved to the next venture).

Because they already have the PC market covered. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

I seriously doubt RL works like that. I fully expect that in case DUST flops, EVE development would get negatively, not positively affected.
Originally by: Sader Rykane I still very much don't understand why they think Dust 514 on consoles is a good idea.
Well, it COULD be a good idea, if only they managed to implement it properly. There aren't many decent MMOFPSs around... in fact... are there any decent ones, now that I think about it ? And the console market is far more easily milked for cash than the PC gamer market. Again, it highly depends on just how well the implementation would end up being. _

Maps limited to 16 players. 68% reviewer, 62% user score. Not exactly impossible to beat. If anything, I'd be far, far more worried about the remakes/reimaginings/sequels of Starsiege Tribes due to arrive SoonÖ. Not so sure if they're even for the console or just the PC market though. Or if they even have any MMO in their FPS at all. _

That was basically Planetsideà and we've yet to see what comes out of PS Next. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

I think for it to sell well, dust really needs to clearly explain how its linked to eve.

I was actually talking about http://tribesuniverse.com/ (MMO) and http://tribesascend.com/ (FPS) but I suppose PS also fits the profile.

MINIMALLY. Same universe (but "different planes" of it), mostly same backstory, completely different mechanics, mainly indirect interaction.
EVE could live on if DUST vanished, DUST could live on if EVE vanished. At least that's what they keps saying for ages. Which basically means they can't be TOO closely tied, with a thick layer of NPC-only stuff in between, AT BEST with some thin player-based comm/interaction channels running through that thick NPC padding. _

From what I understand, it's something like this: EVE players put up "contracts" for planetary mercs, DUST players pick up "contracts" for planetary objectives. However, on the EVE side, most of the contracts are picked up by NPCs, while on the DUST side, most contracts are issued by NPCs. At least in the beginning. Later on that proportion might change. _

That's a little short-sighted.
How would you like Sir Hacksalot on PC to determine which Alliances win and lose territory in Nullsec?
I speculating, but the PC hacking trend for FPS games, seems to me to be the strongest reason to avoid PC with the Dust514 release and future.

Unless I can use my Dreadnought to nuke the site from orbit ( as promised by the future vision), I am going to be very disappointed.
Seriously though, now that Dreadnoughts have basically no significant role in EVE, anti-ground shooting might make a great role. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Came here to say this..
Hopefully CCP can recoup their development costs. I am slightly intrigued, but am not going to buy a console in a million years. Most people I know who play console games play for 1-2 weeks and then swap out for something else at Gamestop using store credit.
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the ho's and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down, and whisper 'no.' |

This game is kind of a godsend for my friend. He's been interested in EVE for years, but his computer can barely play youtube videos.
He invested in a 360, and since most of my friends have one too so did I, so Dust will be his slice of EVE and I'll be right there with him since fortunately I can use a controller almost as competently as a mouse & keyboard. It won't be Battlefield 3, but hopefully it'll pretty damn cool regardless.
The biggest bonus for PC gaming for me is more about being able to mod games, making custom maps and such. That and anti aliasing, which just doesn't seem to exist on the 360 or PS3

I know it's been said before, but, the real problem I see with making Dust a console game is that in 3 years(ish) the current consoles will no longer be up to par.
Hopefully Eve will still be running strong, but all the dust players will have moved on to newer consoles and newer games. And if the two games are connected, we'll be left with this hole where the Dust players used to be.
Whereas if Dust were a PC game, 1) CCP could continue to update the game to reflect hardware updates, and 2) The Eve players could just fire up Dust on their machines and bust up neighboring PI infrastructure. Or whatever it is Dust is supposed to do for Eve players.
Are Eve players fanatical enough to devote some time to a second game? Sure. Are we fanatical enough to buy an xbox? . . . meh.
