It's not cheap labor. Iceland is more of a 3rd world country than china.
Nice one. Still, price levels of Iceland and Shanghai are not comparable.

You're mixing to completely different levels of category here. By the same logic, EVE doesn't have a chance either because MMOs is not a niche and it has massive competition. Or, conversely, Dust will have little zero competition in its niche (because that niche is not "console shooter", but console MMOFPS).
I stand by what I said. The markets served by both games are very different, and Dust will have massive competition. Adding the MMO badge to it is pretentious because essentially it's still a normal multiplayer shooter (which are dime a dozen), just with some ramifications for Eve.
Also, for how long does the average console player play any shooter title (even the better ones)? And CCP wants to have a subscription model based on microtransactions? Nice ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

Dealing with the pubbies is bad enough. Now I'm going to have to suffer console kiddies, too?

And here's the crux of the matter: no-one knows.
This kind of thing hasn't been tried before, and the game should differ enough from the rest of the market to make the lessons from other gamesà perhaps not irrelevant, but certainly much less applicable.
The average console player might not stay that longà but perhaps that is because they know the next iteration is due out in a couple of months? What happens when there is no "next iteration", but rather a free upgrade patch/DLC that serves the same purpose?
How much longer is the staying-power if the game is focused much more on community and interaction than the standard shooter? And how good a hook is the whole persistency thing ù with no previous cases to look at, who can tell?
And as much as we(?) abhor microtransactions, they have unfortunately shown to work, even on consoles, and without the need to pay for the latest version, perhaps they'll actually fall for ità Also, by the sounds of it, we could become a part of that payment scheme as we buy our PLEXes, convert them to AUR and send that over to Dust teams who do good work ù the game is paid for, but the console gamers aren't the ones footing the bill. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

CCP won't be working on DUST within 1-2 months of release so highly doubt they'll be patching it in 5 years.
Considering they aren't able to patch it post-release.....

Huh? They can patch the OS thats running on that thing and removed the rootkits through that, so you say they can't patch a game that's running on them? What is the 160GB hdd in those boxes for?
Also, CCP Shanghai is responsible the Dust client.. why wouldn't they keep it updated? Any sane arguments?

The fact that the integration hasn't gone to plan and has to be "complete" at launch instead of interation later. The extra months CCP has spent on Incarna when DUST was finished so very long ago is the symptom of this.
The original plan would have seen DUST released months ago with no Incarna and limited integration. The fact CCP has not been able to follow their plan but instead has had to invest so much extra work is as good a sign as any.
Combine that with CCPs long history of dropping expansions after release and only following up with Crowd Control and platitudes.
edit: and if you find fault with that..... just tell me you think they'll be patching DUST in 5 years and we'll be done. |

Which plan and who says they can't iterate on the links later?

Oh, Dust was finished long ago? When did this happen? Also, what has Incarna to do with Dust? If at all PI is the culprit here..

Again.. do you refer to some roadmap regarding the launch of Dust or what? Where did CCP ever state a DEFINITE launch date for Dust?

First argument that's sane and I have no counter for.. you get a point?

Hm.. I think they will patch it as nearly as often as Eve. If you're talking about releasing a new client for the next gen PS.. why not if the game works and creates revenue? They do it for Eve, no?
