Sure, as an xbox and PC player I was upset. Who wouldn't be if they looked forward to a good game? I'm not going to whine about it. However The one thing about dust that concerns me is that if we end up having to rely on console players for something; what happens when they stop playing it? We just miss out on a chunk of the game? If it's the only way to take planets and no one is around to take them then the whole thing just crumbles. I can foretell that this game will likely flop due to the popular fps games coming out (Battlefield and COD). Dust just won't get the right attention from PS3 gamers to fill all of the Eve world that it needs. I can almost see it turning out like Alien Vs Predator. The idea is great, is looks fun etc etc. But...the matches are going to be deathly empty and that's such a shame for a great game premise. The only way I can ever see it working is if CCP finds a way to get it on to the PC, where the EVE community can get some control back. Of course, this is just my opinion.
(Before anyone trolls this comment about how it needs to be on ps3 blah blah blah, I know all of that but Eve is what's important, it's what we pay to play. Surely you'd want to see it grow into something more, instead of something less than itself).

This still needs confirmation. Do you have a source for this? I am aware that ccp would need a special deal for xbox live, but it sounds strange that ms would ignore dust514 and preferred it as ps3 exclusive. Though I admit the e3 show yesterday with all those uninspired sequels with low sales ... it did not seem to me that sony is considering dust514 a major title either.
And while we are on the topic, how long your game have to stay ps3 exclusive, there is still a new nintendo coming, there is still pc, even when MS does not get soft on their network rules.

A CCP dev have already stated that it was much easier to work with Sony rather than Microsoft, and that Sony was more receptive towards the idea of a MMO solution. I can't really source it, but it's in a couple of the +100 threads about this issue :)
Read around a bit, you'll be surprised :D

Guys, listen.
I have this awesome idea.
Listen here guys.
Why don't we grab our battleships, put some guns in it
You guys following me?
Ok, so put some guns in it, and blow the 514 noobs playing in the planet surface to smithereens.
It'll be epic! --

Amenotep, I and my corp mates have already decided upon this. It'll be like fighting the sansha, just instead it'll be PS3 players hiding on a planet. I can see many beautiful orbital bombardments to come. :D
And if they're protected just drop a can onto the planet with free tanks written all over it then watch the chaos ensue :P

Regardless of your opinion on the Xbox/PS war, CCP have just cut there available players down needlessly. 3 major platforms (inc PC) and they choose one. I for one am a PC man when it comes to FPS games, i just need a mouse can't stand JoyPads for these games. People ain't gona buy the console just to play this game.
I suspect its a Programming issue and they have gone Exclusive to PS3 to cut down developement time of the release, as they only have to code for 1 stable platform. Its a fact that coding for multi-platforms takes longer.
This also means that while they take there sights of EveOnline itself to develope DUST, a majority of Eve players are not going to be able to play the final result. Makes paying the subscriber charges a bit more bitter to me.
Is it possible that DUST has just become a throw away eve related game ? Im starting to think you won't remember it in a few years time.
Dissapointed.

What you're not getting is they want to attract new customers from the console universe to buy eve-online. Soaking the sponge from a new source. The idea is rather very good, it's just you'll always get some that are crying that they didn't get their way.
About the security of PS3? Don't you remember the days of boot.ini? and still play eve? seriously... PS3 will tighten up over this. One poster has a point as well, Microsoft issues over one PS3 incident? hmmm which is greater..

2012 it should be even 4 major plaforms with enough performance, today the new nintendo should be announced at e3, it is highly unlikely that the new console will not support 1080p. It would be defiantly a candidate for dust 514 as well, but not if the sony exclusive contract is binding them to long to ps3 only.

I think you need to learn reading comprehension mate. As people have stated time and time and time again, including CCP Spitfire, the reason its not on XBOX is because microshaft are greedy bastards who only allow developers one free upgrade per year. After that the companies have to pay to upgrade their own games. This is counter to CCP's long standing ethos that upgrades and expansions are delivered at no extra cost.
Perhaps if you and the other morons like you took your heads out of your rectal cavities for 5 seconds, you would understand that by now, instead of filling the forums with your moronic, uneducated, brain dead threads and posts.
Agreed m8...

Well, your approach to collect the really angry ones and get them to burn brightly didn't work either.
As for the OP and why Dust is on PS3
XBOX: - XBL is to strict (you can't play the Dust there CCP has in mind for us - interconnected with TQ and the one universe) - MS charges too much (CCPs business model isn't welcome there) - updates/patches need to be reviewed by MS (even longer turn around times for bugfixes/updates as we have now) >>> NO DUST ON XBOX, BECAUSE MS MADE IT SO.
PC: CCP wants YOU to keep playing Eve and other different dudes to play Dust and paying for that. If you want to play Dust, get a PS3. Also, mediocre PC FPS players beat Console FPS players all the time. >>> NO DUST ON PC, BECAUSE CCP DOESNT WANT TO.
PS3: - can have Keyboard/Mouse - can update your game any time CCP wants - if new PS4 comes out, CCP will offer a free download of the Dust client - costs 300-400 dollars, depending on where you live - Dust will be free to play and get regular updates (MT will buy you stuff or then the trade with other players)
If you're concerned about your CC security, get one for just this purpose.

Good job CCP on climbing on board of a sinking ship.
+1 Sony is a no go for me. MS, Nintendo, ok, I would have bought even their new console 2012 extra for dust. Buying anything from sony is out of questions.

Thoughts:
1. DUST couldn't be on 360 because of all of aforementioned problems with microsoft's policies.
2. DUST could be on PC, and there are TONS of people who play PC FPS but not EVE. 3/4 of the people who I show EVE to do not play, I'm sure 5/6 of those remaining players would enjoy DUST on the PC, but are not PS3 fans. You'd still be getting the EVE universe to a whole new set of players. You also wouldn't release a game doomed to failure - console gamers, as a general rule, just don't have the patience to keep playing DUST, and even if they do the PS3 is going to die, and the PS4 is going to eventually die, and by then DUST will be such an old game no one will play it on the PS5 or whatever comes next.
3. **** DUST. Let us, as EVE players, go down on our own planets in our game, EVE, and fight each other. And if you absolutely must have DUST: Let us go down there anyway. If PC gamers always beat console gamers simply because of input mechanics, sounds kind of like normal capsuleer vs non-capsuleer interactions. Capsuleers are simply more B.A. If you have to let a bunch of noobish console gamers into our universe, let us get rid of some rage by turning them into piles of meat every once in a while.
4. I recognize that the second part of thought #3 can't happen. So just **** DUST and let EVE players play. I am not at all against change, but I think this way of going about it is ******ed.
5. I want to shoot DUST players from space too. Unfortunately, CCP has two options: make EVE players happy and let us shoot the **** out of DUST players, or limit our options so players don't rage-quit their shiny new (******ed) fps. |
