After a few months of cearbearing I got bored (ofc) and wanted to try PvP. I bought a rifter and went to lowsec. 10 hours later I warped out with nothing, no death, no kills. I started highsec flipping and that went somewhat successfull. First day failed as I went for noobs everyone, including them would understand would die. Next day I realised this wasent the way to go so I made my first fit. I never tried mining but I understood that the only only offencive thing they got was drones... of course it had to be my only weakness! I tried to fit my own ship without instructions for the first and this is what happend:
I checked the map for 0.8+ security systems (secure containers dont work in 0.8+) with lots of people and found a nice system. when I got there I warped to the first belt and found an osprey! quickly checking the ship to see if it got any drones, 20m¦! Time to put my fitting (and PvP) skills to a test. I flipped his can and sure enough, he sendt his drones after me. As this was my FIRST EVER FIGHT I was shaking and I did a few errors but never got below half shield (passive shield tank). I ransom'd the osprey for 1m and moved on to the next belt.
IF YOU DONT BOTHER READ THE WHOLE THING, ATLAST READ THIS FOR EPIC LULZ!
I found a rokh... A solo rokh mining into a can. I had no clue what a rokh was so I checked if he got drones, 50m¦. If I survive this I will surive anything I thought and flipped him. So my second ever fight was in a rifter against a mining rokh! he launched hobgoblins I after me and I had to put my kitting skills (which I had only read about) to a test. again I never got below 50% shield. I got a defenceless rokh pointed. I got a defenceless rokh pointed! HOLY CRAP I GOT A DEFENCELESS ROKH POINTED IN MY RIFTER! ... he got 4/5 shield and I got 1k barrage left. there is no freaking way I can get him below 3/4...
time to put my social skills to a test:

So he paid me 30m at 4/5 shield... if he waited a few minutes I would run out of ammo and who knows what would happend.

after that I got 1-2 kills/ransoms a day.
one day I meet a battle-hulk and got pwn'd
more 1-2 kills/ransoms per day.
I saw a can and a badger and I rushed. the badgers alt (in a frig) warped in just as I flipped. I had lots of windows opens and I couldent do anything before I closed the "add contact" window. when I finally realised what it was and closed it I was 1/2 shield and dead he was nice and gave me my stuff back but it still annoy me as I could most likely kill him if it werent for that ADD CONTACT WINDOW HIJACKING MY GAME!
more 1-2 kills/ransoms...
I saw a retriever mining and flipped him and he got kinda mad. the next day I saw the same retriever and flipped him again for lulz. Admiral Ackbar > IT'S A TRAP! A drake (his alt) warped in and I quickly warped out. I warped in 100km away and saw my can gone! I told my corpies (yes I joined a corp) that a drake stole from me and I started the waiting game. that drake was the biggest moron EVER! after my aggro was gone I warped to the drake and orbited him while locking and unlcoking him. that was the longest 10min I ever waited... and he just sat there waiting for my friends in a zealot and loki to help me...
nice killmail I guess but he got a lolfit .
so after I flipped him twice and killed his drake he move somewhere else
also earlier I tricked a hulk into flipping me and my corpies ganked him. (I dident enjoy it as I feelt sorry for him since he just tried to help me)
so I went back to 1-2... wait where are everyone? hello? anyone here? looks like I managed to scare everyone to either quit using cans or move...
after a while I got bored of this and started to cearbear in my vexor again.
END OF INTRO
So here I am again, bored of cearbearing but this time I will try to PvP in low/nullsec until I do it right!
so now I am looking for tips, help or other stuff that can help me find targets!
I am currently roaming places with no stations and most NPC kills.
I am also training for a pilgrim to help me earn money (exploring) if I manage to kill my sec status.
I think I'll try to lose 20 rifter (think I got 2/20 lost so far from my highsec flipping) before I move up to something else. so no "derp, derp battlecruisers or nothing! DEEERP"!
I will just make a res for the sake of it and feel free to troll, troll and whatever you do in c/p. |

I got a bad feeling this will be an off-topic thread thx to this but: Ransoms should be honored as it is the best way to earn money as a pirate. Sadly way to many think as you and fewer and fewer are willing to pay... If everyone honored ransoms you could really ask them for anything below the ship + fit price as they knew it would spare them the time to refit.
Honor = more willing to pay ransom and higher ransom. Dishonor = ransom + killmail UNTIL no one is willing to pay...
And yes, I am mad as I could have made double the money if people dident dishonor... |

I assume you are solo in frigs at the moment? If so...
http://evemaps.dotlan.net/
This is your roaming buddy. USE IT!
Note the list of most violent systems on the right? That's where the action is at... maybe too much action for a soloer but if you loiter in the surrounding systems you will find yourself much better opportunities than you would just roaming at random.
Also check out the statistics you can look at (both on dotlan and the in game map, Dotlan is just easier visually). Compare number of jumps with number of pilots in system to get an idea of where the traffic is and where you can find people. You can also look at npc's killed if you are chasing ratters.
Find where all the 1/10 2/10 plexes are and try to catch people in these (lots of people do this and you can often find a nice 1vs2 in them, although people that camp them tend to do so in tank heavy fits, watch out for blobbers. If you judge it well you can kill the camper before his backup comes in and decide to stick around for an extra kill or GTFO. Still, a good place to find a fight.
Also roaming around in FW space you can catch people in their FW sites.
Systems near to 0.0 entry points can also yield some activity.
Head from Tama to Amamake via less secure autopilot settings (don't ACTUALLY autopilot). There are several roams you could take up that are good for action. You will learn these over time.
Put Rancer and Onatoh on your avoid list. These are camped by smartbombers frequently and unless you know how to avoid getting smartied it can put a dent on your activity. No good comes from trying to pew solo in these systems unless you are pretty sure of what you are doing.
Smartbombers sit just off stargates inline from common routes so that if you simply warp from one gate to the next its likely you will explode before you even load grid. To avoid smartbomb camps try to scan out the stargates before you warp to them. If this is not possible at least avoid warping to the gate directly from a stargate. Look for a celestial (planet/belt) that does not sit between the target gate and another one (possibly even a station too if there is only one or two in system). Of course this is only if you see hostiles and suspect a smartbombing battleship. If you cannot do any of this you can at least warp to your destination stargate at 100 to have a nosey.
Flying less common ships will get you a fight better than overpowered pieces of shi* like Dramiels or ships people tend to be wary of like Wolves, Jags, Ishkurs...
Know your ship and your enemies weaknesses. If you suspect someone has backup next door be sure you can either kill them or at least put a good dent in them before backup arrives. If you don't have time to pick your fights VERY carefully, knowing you can at least kill something before his buddies arrives gets you a kill, at the cost of dying to the backup. This is still a win since you are fighting against the odds. I like to think these people are no-risk cowards and killing one of them will make them mad even if you lose.
Try to fly cheap and kill more expensive stuff, especially mixed with the above. A Rifter, Incursus or Tristan (highly underrated) can kill off an Interceptor or Dramiel surprisingly well.
Most people that fly Dramiels think they are invincible and are retar*ed. If you have ab, web and scram you can likely kill them. If you have mwd and scram you can likely kill them, if they try to burn off you overheat scram and activate mwd as their own point drops you can keep them in range (om nom ENYO!).
You don't REALLY need to set up lots of safespots when flying a frig but it's certainly worthwhile taking the time to make off grid bookmarks for belts in the busiest systems. If you see one person warping in to the belt you can decide to jump in too and land before they do.
Amamake top belt is hilarious.
Yes I quit C&P but this guy deserves some help so STFU. ~~~

Sec status is the colour of the dotted border around the system. Red is low sec, green is high, 0.0 is black. Beyond these distinctions the sec of the system is largely irrelevant unless you care about how your sec drops change marginally from .4 to .1 (which you shouldn't).
As for scanning, when you get confident, scanning from a celestial will 'enable' more fights than hiding at a safespot since anyone looking to pew can't find you hidden in a safespot, and might move on from the system rather than stick around to find you. When you get a feel for systems you wil know where to scan from to cover most of the system. Generally most systems will have most things at the centre (near the sun). A scan from planet 1 will catch the most. A good reason to stick with Dotlan for info and routefinding is so you can quickly check the solarsystem map ingame to see what celestials you can warp to to scan out a system well.
When you are lurking/scanning from a celestial, be aligned to something (approack it and be moving) and have it on the selected item bar so you can one button warp to it if anything nasty appears on your overview.
To scan accurately right down to 5 degrees you need to learn to do this align trick then press alt to see the bracket for your ship, release alt and click where the bracket is. If you do this right you end up with a bracket over your ship which you can line up with other brackets (asteroid belt, moon etc) to narrow down where those targets are. Zoom out when doing this as it is inaccurate close up.
I'm hardly a competent scanner / roamer but when I enter system I run a scan immediately, note the numbers in local and check how many stations there are (could just be a load of people docked. Warp about to try and fully scan the system and check corp/character info while warping. Also run scans mid-warp on long warps. As you come to know players and corporations in eve you can come to understand what to expect from a system. Information like their security status and age can also help.
If you want to check out a target to see what their fits are before engaging you can check on here http://eve-kill.net/?a=search. I don't always bother with that but if you are facing something that could be suicidal it might be worthwhile checking first! I tend to just jump in blind anyway since it's more fun.
If you are on grid and within 100km you can 'look at' their ship to see what type of guns they have fitted. When you know what the different guns look like AND you know the common fits for ships this can let you know almost exactly how they are fit. Also take note of their speed to determine if you can kite them or shut off their mwd's or whatever you need to do.
I am forgetting plenty but this should help, unless I'm just passing all my bad habits on.
Oh, set long roams and try not to loiter in any system TOO long, this is the common reason people say they cant get fights, scanning down vigils sat in POSes or what have you
As a pure soloer it's best to give yourself all the helpful intel you can.

I'm just trying to be clear to make sure. I'm not trying to patronise you
You can see the sec status of a system at all times, its the border colour.
Are you saying you need to know the difference between a 0.4 and a 0.7? This never bothers me since the rules of engagement are exactly the same.

OH GOD I FAILED!

As in, low sec is low sec, the rules are the same there. I'll check my posts to see if I've goofed on this elsewhere, my bad.
I need to see sec status to filter out highsec. I dont care if there were 20 people in the system the last 30 minutes and 3k rats killed if it is highsec |

Why do I get the feeling I'm being trolled
Pick any of those stats you like from the drop down list, they will show in the middle, and the background colour of the system will change to show indicate low or high figures.
MEANWHILE, regardless of what drop down statistic you choose, the BORDER colour of each system will stay the same to indicate if it is high, low or null. ~~~

I got a probing heron a few days ago... he deserves it as he sat at 0 at planet 1. my first lowsec kill and I now got -0.25 sec status!
later got paid 10m by some guys in deep null to pod me. I earned about 4m from it and got free trip to highsec
also starting to regret all thos ransoms I did as I got kinda bad killboard stats now
I am having a really hard time finding fights (roamed for 5 days(?) and only got 1 kill). So if you could eve-mail me your big victim-finding strategy, I would be a really happy pirate!
I also found an itty 3 with lots of stabs so I couldent point him (tried to bump) so he got away . I did learn however that I can easily dock while having red aggro and I even managed to undock and get away... TWICE!
me: 2 - station: 0
If you want to start with PvP I suggest you start with flipping. convo me or send me an eve-mail and I can give you a few tips |

You have the guts and the right attitude of getting out there and doing stuff, you will do very well in this game I am sure! Soloing really can feel tough and getting fights you are confident about can take some time and experience. The fact that you have ransomed people already is far more awesome than another tick on a killboard.
DONT BECOME A KILLBOARD WHO*E!
Even if you K/D ratio looks bad now, or even in the future, it just indicates a different attitude, that of getting out there and taking risks and having balls. Any competent corp will look at your killboard record and recognise that you are a soloer and won't have the 90%+ efficiency that blobtards have.

Avoid Placid at all costs. The KWFL Republic, Blood Money Cartel, and many others are there looking to make you another smear on one of their ships, also if any of the anti-piracy corps see you pirating, they too will squash you. Just fair warning bro. Keep up the good work

Even if you K/D ratio looks bad now, or even in the future, it just indicates a different attitude, that of getting out there and taking risks and having balls. Any competent corp will look at your killboard record and recognise that you are a soloer and won't have the 90%+ efficiency that blobtards have.
I like this attitude. Recently I've been "falling for bait" in order to try out fighting under controlled circumstances. I started playing EvE with a friend of mine, we were a big fat highsec carebears. We both fly big fat expensive ships around high sec and we've lost more than one ship worth over 500mil by not reading mission reports, getting too ****y, etc. So losing a few mil on a cruiser or even better, a few hundred k isk on a rifter, is no big deal for me.
Sometimes I take the jetcan and fight, other times I take the jetcan and run. Personally, I like the feeling that I'm "cleaning up" the scams. :P But I do enjoy fighting to fight. I don't really care if I lose, because hey, what's a few hundred k to me? That's the price of entertainment!
