The logic is that visiting the same station in diferent times it should have a diferent background.
Indeed, something would happen in eve. The 100AU warp would be 5AU one day and 100AU the other day. Less static more life, more Eve. :) ---

Originally by: DrysonBennington Here is an idea that might get everyone going. Why not add non-mineable asteroid belts around some of the planets that the stations orbit? Not only would ship combat be interesting with pilots being able to duck into the belt to escape their pursurer's but cloaked ships could wait in seclusion for their prey as they left the station.
I think you need to learn how the game works.

+1 to DrysonBennington asteroid belt idea.
Bit confused about how an object which I assume would take at least months if not years to orbit a star would affect the current game environment? I suppose seasons on a plant could impact Dust?
I think a lighter and more interesting addition would be to have comets which are on elongated orbits and maybe to create minerals/ores which can only be found on them. The elongated orbits would mean that systems and always 'active' so hot spots can move around.
TBF the only thing I really wanna see is damage to be dependent on where on the ship it is taken. Having Shield/Armour/Hull zones on ships which individually take damage would make maneuvering way more interesting (Think Freespace). More so then the current distance/velocity model IMO.
Expensive upgrade though.

If thats the upgrade you want, then then make a thread. :) I want EVE to come alive, I want to be able to sit and camp a gate and see myself orbit around the sun as the shadows of a planet makes our position darker and colder. ---

Talking about realism in EVE is kinda stupid. If you want realism, we'd have to have no sound effects, no max speed for ships, stray bullets and missiles that missed their targets randomly splatting people, asteroids in belts sitting millions of km apart etc etc. Some liberties have to be taken RE the laws of physics to make the game reasonable to code and play. Having constantly moving moons and planets would be a bit of a nightmare.

Stars are not the only things in the universe that have gravity.
Stations can orbit planets and moons, moons can orbit planets, planets can orbit stars, asteroid belts can orbit stars or moons or planets, POSs can orbit planets and moons just like stations can, etc. ____________ ___127151___ ^^My Signature is Better than Yours^^ |

Don't think we have a use for ships that would dwarf most moons and some of the smallest planets.

Does this not sound awesome to you?
Anyway, on the topic of sound, there are ways to make it spacey and dramatic at the same time. You can play around a lot with how the ship's hull and guts distort the sound of impacts and weapon firing, and for things you wouldn't hear in real life you can make quietened, muffled versions as a sort of assisted synesthesia.

Which would make saving a set of co-ordinates pretty pointless, would it not?

The only way a bookmark would have to change would be how it is stored. it would need to relate to an object, be it the sun, a planet, moon or even a POS. From that point you warp into about the same place on the grid in the end as you want to. What would really change is from what direction you will arrive since in two weeks or in two months the position you warp from will have changed from what it was before.
This also means that if Stargates are in orbit then your super duper dragbubble bookmark will only work for a few days untill its unaligned to the other gate.
Bookmarks would need a few values to calculate their position. The closest object ID, the angle in horizontal and vertical axis of the bookmark from this object aswell as the distance from this object. planets and moons are easier, since you can pre-define the orbit all you need to send to the client is a current date to calculate the graphics so the planet is in the correct location. same would be for moons, even if you lag 15 seconds it will not matter much on objects of this size and the speed they move at thru the solarsystem.
How would you like to have your own pocket version of Solarsystem pre-view of the point of origin (our own real solarsystem), with star, planets, moons with somewhat correct orbits.
in matters of mathematics and hardware introducing orbits of stuff is possible, its just a matter of players wanting and requesting it. ---
