What is EvE about? Is it about trendy clothes, or shooting a big gun and teabagging your most recent kill? Last time I checked, it was about internet spaceships. I bring this up because all of this new content worries me and I am curious to see if anyone feels the same way. It seems that instead of being concerned with the game itself, players and developers are much more interested in shiny easter eggs and addons that as I see it, add little to the actual substance of the game itself. The apparent rush to get all of this stuff out of the door only seems to compound it; it makes it appear as if this is less an attempt to enhance, broaden, and perfect the world that is Eve and more an attempt to squeeze more cash out of players and create a swarm of new accounts.
I am not saying that CCP shouldn't be adding these things at all, simply that there are alot of other things that I believe would be a better use of their time. In other words, don't start another project until you've finished the first. There are lots of things that need work and need to be fixed throughout Eve as it is (we're still swimming around in laggy space themed submarines ffs) , and rushing to bring out new content just seems to me like trying to distract the public's gaze from the existing flaws.
Eve is about internet spaceships, and that should be the first priority when it comes to enhancing the game , not drawing in the other MMO players for another wardrobe game, and not drawing in the console kiddies.

So by saying no I guess that means you'll be quitting. I for one will embrace Incarna and welcome it because it is about time we have actual avatars instead of just ships. Ships are cool, but they are nothing without our characters.
So when you quit feel free to contract all your ISK and belongings to Teala Te'Jir, I'll not turn your stuff down, but make good use of it. ^_^

I won't be quitting anytime soon. I've invested too much into the game and the world at large to do that just yet. Also, I should reiterate that I'm not saying that his is BAD content, just that it should be secondary or even tertiary to the main focus of Eve. That is, internet spaceships. They used to be serious business, and I want them to stay that way.

EVE is and was always about a sci-fi universe. And nearly as long as they said they will build duke nukem forever cpp said they WILL make walking in stations IF they got the time and resources do pull it off. Heck, they said this in beta already. I just hope they stop wasting so much resources of the wardrobe stuff and focus now again on the spaceship stuff to later after dust 514 is finished to introduce killing on stations. I want sit dusties face to face in a station, and send my mind-controlled anti-person-drones against them if they annoy me!
Why a forum in the year 2011 still has no automatic double post merge which can be done even with javascript mostly is beyond my understanding. |

They need to implement a way to properly save and load portraits so I can change it every time I do a clone jump and/or get podded. I'd also love a offline chargen where we can import, export, render and share portraits for fun and contests.
Until then, Incarna is just :meh: --------

Your premise is wrong. The main focus of EVE Online has always been the entirety of the universe of New Eden. They just didn't have the tech 4 years ago to implement it (and I doubt the average computer 4 years ago could even get 5fps on the current build on Sisi).
I personally welcome the concept of Incarna. Will have to wait for tomorrow and subsequent patches to see if I like the implementation.

Edited by: Whitehound on 20/06/2011 17:25:51 In case you have not noticed, did we not break the PCU record during the alliance tournament. This is as much "No" as you can currently get from the community. I believe it is save to say that some folks high up at CCP will have wrinkles on their foreheads about this stagnation of the PCU numbers, if it is not a decline.
The blame will likely not fall onto Incarna itself as it is not out yet, but partly onto its late deployment, as well as all the recent changes made to EVE that did not exactly improve the game in some way. I am thinking here of the removal of the learning skills - these skills did not stop the PCU numbers from climbing in the past and while the skills still existed. Now we have seen the removal of agent quality and NPC divisions, and I have a feeling that it will not boost PCU numbers in the long run either, because it is just another removal of something. Nor did the pretty avatars seem to have done much to counter it and to boost the PCU numbers and one could start making bets on how much the Captain's Quarters will help here. I do not think it will. I am guessing that Aurum will do some good as it gives players something directly in return for their money, but it also depends on what it is you can get. An Ishukone Watch Scorpion that is no different in stats from a standard Scorpion is not going to get much attraction. The Scorpion did already receive a new and pretty skin, which was felt by most as necessary. So without having seen it do I very much doubt the added value of it. If this is then the kind of stuff you can get for Aurum then I do not seen it boosting PCU numbers either.
TL;DR: In a way are players already saying "No". --

I may not agree with all what Incarna will bring, but all this bashing and smacking is way too much. After all a lot of developers working hard to deliver a good product and saying that what they do is **** even before you try it is at least bad manners. Have some respect for them and their work as we don't have yet any grounds of actually knowing how Incarna will look like when it's fully deployed.
When you say "there are alot of other things that I believe would be a better use of their time", why do you think you can decide better than their team leaders where to spend their time and efforts. I'm also not overjoyed with Incarna and think that MT are a spit in the face (now) and has the potential to kill Eve if it goes full MT. But at least I reserve my judgement of Incarna until it's implemented.

This is not the point. You can PvP in WoW, too, but most would not say that it makes both games equal. Having clothes on and shooting do not exclude one another, but then they also have not much in common.
While WoW takes place in several realms was one of the biggest arguments for EVE that it all plays in one big universe. I do not think that this distinction ever made a big difference to any of its players. And if it did then why does WoW have success with its realms? Instead, is CCP continuing on their path of combining all into one universe, and this may turn out to be the wrong idea after all for some of the EVE players. --

I somewhat agree. Im not playing EVE because i enjoy FPS mechanics and want to play dress up dolls.
CQ is elaborate, complex, all sorts of stuff. Imagine how much time/money/effort has been spent making it.
Why wasnt that time/money/effort spent make more EVE. i.e. internet spaceship stuff.
They have a massive expansion coming out to their spaceship game.... WITH NO NEW SPACESHIPS!>!>>!>!@?>!#?

Well I do understand the Incarna opposition though. It's the fact that resources for Incarna aren't working on improving and fixing starship stuff. But that's also partially CCP's choice, to invest their money in DUST and WoD and not put teams on improving EVE.

eve has always been a space simulation they wanted to have planet travel, station walking, atmospheric flight since the beginning but the technology has never been there, hence why they are now adding the new features as the tech gets to where it needed to be....
ccp has said that WIS will not be teabagging etc... or guns etc... the stations are for meetings, gambling, other devious acts.. its not a FPS... thats dust and thats on planets.

Right now Incarna is just stand around and admire yourself in a futuristic room.
In the future it will be much more. Face to face meetings with NPC agents, briefing DUST mercenaries about their next mission etc.
Your right, EVE is about internet spaceships, but there are people flying them. EVE still is about internet spaceships, and it will be that way due to the fact making EVE about anything else will not make it EVE.
Incarna gives a more human feel to EVE. Spaceships are cold and lifeless.

I'm quite happy with the current spaceships (the one/two per expansion as bonus things is nice though). Though i kinda wish they'd do another Trinity patch (IIRC, no new spaceships... just lots and lots of pretty) instead of WiS until it's completely ready. HOWEVER, with that being said, I think the EVE-version of WiS should be a "requirement" to do certain things. Off the top of my head:
1. 'Clandestine' stuff (purchasing boosters, mercs, etc) that you don't want the SCC to catch wind of. In the case of boosters and other illegal stuffs, they'd be removed from the "normal" empire markets. 2. This one's more optional on our part -- when trying to "recruit" the DUST Mercs, they have the option to request a face-to-face meeting (rather than normal FTL comms).
Everything else (Aurum purchases, mirror, whatever) would all be optional (permanently) so that those of us who only want to be outside of our pod when it goes boom can stay that way.

There's your problem right there. You've invested nothing into Eve. You've paid a subscription fee, and you've played the game. You were supposed to be having fun in return for that fee. I'm sorry if you somehow missed this vital aspect of the transaction.
Tomorrow, Eve changes. It is entirely up to you to decide whether the new product that Eve becomes is something that you care to pay a subscription fee for. But please, please, please stop whining. If you decide that Eve is no longer something that interests you, you have lost nothing. Eve owes you nothing. You paid the fees, and should have been enjoying the game.
Here are your options:
1) Try Incarna, like it, and continue subscribing 2) Try Incarna, dislike it, and go away 3) Don't try Incarna, and go away

I'm going to go out on a limb, after all my disappointment with what is on sisi, that the expansion is hiding a huge surprise for all of us. The hanger will be there. Blasters will have been fixed. etc etc. It's just going to be a huge surprise. And we will all eat our words and never doubt them again. LOL

Personally, I wish CCP would just bag the internet spaceships already and give us space suits and jet-packs. ~Gnosis~ |

And after logging into Incarna...well...not for me. Which is kind of funny. Way back when I first started playing Eve, the absence of a persona was definitely a sticking point (coming from WoW space), but I eventually embraced it as part of Eve. I was a quasi-immortal being that could move between metal bodies.
But now I'm out of the pod. Walking around in the cold air, stinking of flesh. Practically naked. How do I get sent to my medical clone in another system if some janitor puts a shiv in my kidney because he likes my new boots, and I bleed out in some hallway in a station? Isn't all of the fancy tech that does that inside the pod?
Some people will love Incarna and the direction it points to, and that is good, but I don't think I need it, despite all of your efforts. The game was clearly good enough for me to have stuck it out the past four years just being a ship on the screen.
All I ask, CCP, is to have a choice. A simple check-box in the graphics options that says "Pre-Incarna interface" will do just fine.

Originally by: Korinne What is EvE about?
People used to say that Incarna would come out when Duke Nukem Forever comes out. What's the galaxy coming to?
I somewhat agree. Im not playing EVE because i enjoy FPS mechanics and want to play dress up dolls.
CQ is elaborate, complex, all sorts of stuff. Imagine how much time/money/effort has been spent making it.
Why wasnt that time/money/effort spent make more EVE. i.e. internet spaceship stuff.
They have a massive expansion coming out to their spaceship game.... WITH NO NEW SPACESHIPS!>!>>!>!@?>!#?
Serious, was everyone playing EVE sitting around thinking "Geee, i wish EVE were an FPS with dress up dolls?"
^this too^

So, does everyone think that this is the most awesome patch ever? I'm more of the opinion of 'useless' patch.

Those people were correct.
Actually, Duke Nukem Forever came out BEFORE Incarna.

It's not useless, it's a starting point for something more. If you want to buy contraband, you have to exit your pod. If you want to gamble for ships/isk/etc you'll have to exit your pod. And so on.
So far yes CQ is useless, but nobody said it would have any immediate usefulness. It's just the start of Incarna, nothing more.

Confirming that Crysis 2 gets better FPS compared to the EVE CQ environment at maxed-out graphics settings for both.
Welcome to some time ago - what to do so CQ isn't universally hated. CQ is sort of nice, I guess. But lack of options, mandatory nature = INSTAHATE You guys never listen early enough nor make noise strong enough when it matters. Guess what, even the "(do not) load station environment" is supposed to be TEMPORARY only.
Quick recap, in case CCP insists on keeping CQ the default environment : * MANDATORY - separate the CQ from the non-CQ graphics detail settings into two completely separate groups which you can set differently * MANDATORY - keep the ESC menu option to not load any environment at all * STRONGLY PREFERRED - add some even lower graphics detail levels for CQ * OPTIONAL BUT HIGHLY DESIRABLE - do not delete the current hangar environments AND make them an alternative (default disabled) via the ESC menu _

I understand that it's a starting point, but why bother to release the product before it's really finished? If people wanted a sneak peek that bad, they could just go get on sisi.
