It's going to be possibly slightly better performance for a slightly worse look

Considering the quality of Nvidia fanboys' (and maybe marketing alts) posts so far it's very evident why they fell for the PPU scam.
But anyway, unless CCP actually implements multithreading support for software Physx and other improvements supposedly made available to developers by Nvidia there can be a very noticeable and sometimes unplayable drops in performance due to intentionally crippled Physx. Just as it has happened in all those other crappy Physx games out there. and in the end that is all I care about and what will affect my decision to continue playing or not. |

With ATI cards you will see some details disappear. For example, women will lose their clothes... HeH HeH HeH

so i take it that no-one actually knows what SSAO actually does in eve then? and what will change when it is not available to ATI users.

I'm waiting for the whine thread about the performance hit for those people with cheapass nvidia cards thinking their game is going to look all shiney with this enabled instead of the inevitable slideshow they'll get

If you are working with nvidia or ati gaming cards, your boss should be shoot into his face. But as you just made **** up, its not that bad ;-)
Why a forum in the year 2011 still has no automatic double post merge which can be done even with javascript mostly is beyond my understanding. |

This is what i understand of it:
Ssao allows for dark corners on models to be dark, and to illimunate a room with light passing through a small crack in a wall. In eve it makes ships feel more real due to better lighting effects on them.

If you bothered reading my OP and followed some links youŠd maybe know?
Or rather guess as we all do. As even after 12 hours a DEV still hasnŠt managed to surprise us with an actual explanation.
And no this isnŠt because of patchday. Last I heard GFX guys donŠt do server and client patch stuff.

Get the hint: ATI are 2nd rate, especially now AMD bought em.
I have had 2 ATI chips, drivers suck big time, features suck big time.
I always end up going back to Nvidia. Must be a reason for that. The pattern is too frequent.

he's refering to the nVidia buys 3dFX back in the beginning of 2000. the transfer of IP left nVidia not able to use dual GPU cards and the SLi technology that 3dFX had made for about 4 years. Also, nVidia bought 3dFX legally so IDK where the "omg nVidia stole technology from 3dFX" comes from.

Edited by: London on 21/06/2011 14:58:23 Well this is just lazy if it's only 'nvidia' code that causes artifacts on AMD GPUs. AMD cards definitely support all the same features. I run SSAO and advanced depth effects in games like Shogun 2, and SSAO in Bad Company 2 on an AMD 6970.
I guess it's the same thing with AMD stamped games like Shogun 2, but at least those effects still work on nvidia cards too because the company doesn't want to split its customer base.
Shame on you CCP. Get in contact with AMD catalyst people and sort this out, don't just turn your back on it because you happen to be partnered with a jolly green giant. .................................................................. Create a Starship contest entry: Naga Frigate |

So what's actually the problem right here, you mean Incarna will be less pretty on AMD cards compared to Nvidia cards? I'd like to know as I actually bought an AMD computer just for Incarna as my old laptop couldn't handle it. I feel like I'm being ripped off by CCP.

Now, which one do you think you would go with? ...
Heh. And they chose PS3 instead of XBox 360 for Dust 514. If it were just a matter of dev tools, the XBox is by far the easier choice. (I know, they chose PS3 because Sony permits CCP to connect the console to CCP's network directly.)
I have an ATI Radeon HD 5870 on Windows 7. That card was better than anything NVidia had to offer at the time I bought it. Thankfully, none of those restrictions seem to intersect with my current configuration.

LMAO! I added that one later. It was clearly the superior technological alternative to stinkinŠ 3dfx and thus soon completely abandoned.
