I use my old monitor to have the like of dotlan up when fcing or just out of game browser when I am not. Colours are crisp and you have room to move your windows around and still see everything. When i travel and revert to my laptop i struggle. Spoiled myself I guess.

Although that not what your asking though is it, actually i had to use a 32in TV when my Monitor broke, i just put it on a little table next to me & it worked fine. Internet Games & Movies all as they should do. Is it a case of getting teh 1080p resolutioin or is it the screen size your after, 27in monitor are fine, plus there doing them at stupid resolutions of 2560 X 1400 & 1600. But those go for a bit more.

So: 24" @ 1920x1200 (screw 1920x1080) 27" @ 2560x1440 30" @ 2560x1600

I do wish I could add a second monitor and move the boxes (only the boxes, not the pull the screen over) to it though so I could have the chat boxes, contracts and all of that not mucking up my space view.

Even by using the HDMI connection, the text is odd looking, yet using the pc interface (standard 15pin) it looks clean. My guess is the hdmi imput is blurring things (for movies etc) and even messing with the sharp, contrast its still not as good. most of the time i just use the 15pin/vga connection, er sometimes the tv's software has trouble stretching everything when/if you change resolutions. Prob just an option i haven't discovered yet. Only thing i do wish i waited for was the LED version, gets a bit warm in the man cave with all this stuff running lol. LED would have better contrast, prob better colors and run a lot cooler (prob save on the electric bill as well a bit.)

I used to have a nice Higher than HD samsung, then for some reason a few resolutions over VGA died ( I blame Win 7 VGA spotty compatibility for this - known issues ), so I went and got a 24" LG (first time not buying Samsun), then was looking for a inexpensive 32" TV so I was thinking of replacing my new 24" with a 32" TV as theyre falling in price fast. Sure Id love a higher than HD but they're not cheap with a TV Tuner (and USB tuners suck goats), so I am pretty much stuck with HD resoution. If I have to get a dedicated monitor, I probably wont bother, the TV tuner included is just an excuse to upgrade it :)

I found it all fine to be working with, reading internet playing games etc etc. One major problem i got was getting a DIV to HDMI cable, as i was being cheap at the time, so of course i was having to use the highest DVI-D setting which was 1360 X 768, still it was ok. All the text was readable. I was about 2ft away from teh screen as well. I'm pretty sure no TV's come with DVI input's, VGA's Yes but DVI no. So what ever your graphics card outputs make sure you have a cable to do connect. Only an HDMI & DVI will do full 1080 HD, VGA & Componet cables will only get you to 720P The only probelm i can think of which i didn't get was if you were sat at a desk with such a large screen ... The neck ache issue, although then why would they sell 30in monitors. I'm sure it would pass anyway. 3D TV for the Win .. can i get a Woop-Woop As for the projector issue i failed by a foot & a half. The shame of it, ha ha. Well i made up for it by having 5.1 surround sound hooked up to it at the same time.

Have you ran the cleartype tuner again? It could be the cleartype crap.

Even a small light to see my key board can start to get to me(mainly finding the curser) So mainly play on my little 24 inch. When i warp with the projector on I go--

You can convert the VGA or DVI to HDTY with a simple converter connector sold at any Radio Shack.

In fact, playing eve on a 42 inch screen was quite a horrible experience, screen size is way too big for sitting at arm's length making it hard to keep track of everything going on. I guess at 32 inch it will be a little better but be prepared for things to look ugly and pixelated from the distance you're sitting at. TL;DR: in my opinion big screen is only nice if you sit at a distance and want to drool over how pretty your ship looks. It's not practical at all. Get a 27inch 2650x1440 or 30 inch 2650x1600 screen instead, these are much more suitable for general computer use and actually playing Eve online.
