The problem as I see it (since you are finally asking, CCP), boils down to the fact that you essentially told your customers: "We hate you."
This was then confirmed by the leaked memo, though we got the message loud and clear already (see MT and monocle). It was not so much the prices, but the F U factor.
Now before the patch, Eve worked on both of my computers. After the patch, only on 1. Don't expect people to go out and buy a new computer to play your game, I doubt very many will.
But it's in the name of progress you say. Okay, let's see. Walking in Stations - sounds cool. What's this? There's nothing I can't do just as efficiently (or more efficiently) with a mere button click in the old hangar view? No way!
Oh, I get it. You want us to playtest the engine for your future game. No problem. I've loved Eve and I'm happy to help. Why didn't you just say so? Dishonesty turns me off. Well, I tested it. It's slow and does not agree with my hardware very much, so I turned it off. Now all I can see is a door. Did I mention I liked the old hangar view better? What, you don't care? I get it.
By the way, locking the hilarious door screenshot thread was just plain wrong. You gotta keep your sense of humor in times like this.
Anywho, we've put up with bugs, incomplete features, etc. for years. We love this game and all we really want if for you to fix that stuff. Eve is supposed to be a harsh and cold universe. We get it that only about 300,000 people like harsh and cold while a million like shiny and sparkly. We don't need or want MT or WiS (at least until you can make it something fun/useful), but we don't mind helping you out if can simply be honest and communicative with us.
We put up with Plex because you couldn't (didn't want to?) stop gold sellers. We would rather see you get the money if people were going to buy gold. But now you take advantage of our goodwill. This upsets us as you (hopefully) have noticed.
In short, the players have given you the benefit of the doubt for years. I need not get into RMT, Dev assistance of certain alliances, etc. We stuck with you anyway, but there is only so much we can take. You have now exceeded that limit.
Where do we go from here? Well that's up to you. If the things that made us love Eve are gone, we will go elsewhere. There are lots of games that do shiny real well. We're not here for shiny. He put... creatures... in our bodies... to control our minds. He made us... say lies... do things. |

Wow, I just read the devblog and I must say I find it has a dishonest feel to it and is most disappointing.
I did however find it hilarious in that it mentioned real life pants, considering that they are selling imaginary computer-game pants at several times the cost of actual real life pants. At least CCP still have a sense of humor (oh wait, he wasn't making a joke). He put... creatures... in our bodies... to control our minds. He made us... say lies... do things. |
