CCP clearly has no respect for its player base. Those of you who read the newsletter should have caught on to this. The lack of professionalism in the newsletter is astounding.
Read it for yourself and you will find out that CCP thinks we are all weak minded low self esteem people who would benefit emotionally by buying expensive things. That the act of buying expensive things boosts our self image. That by providing us an outlet through the game to waste our money, we will feel good about ourselves and it is a good thing that everyone benefits from. To go along with our poor self esteems and weak minds, CCP also seems to think that buying friendship is a good thing and that we should do that too.
I almost forgot to mention that those of us who don't want to pay for things (specifically for Dust) must be either "Economically challenged" or afraid of PSN compromising our credit cards. No other possible reason. Since when is it ok to refer to your customers as "Economically challenged"? The entire tone of the article suggests that CCP is trying to prey on the perceived weaknesses of its customers as a way to facilitate emptying their wallets.
I was on the fence when Incarna came out, I figured as long as it doesn't affect what I do, no problem. I could even live with the NEX store so long as it does not offer anything that can influence game play. After all, I had no interest in anything you could offer there. However, after digesting the newsletter and having my eyes opened to the mindset of CCP (or at the very least the author), I am no longer on the fence.
The writing is on the wall. From the article: "Not all virtual purchases will focus on customization: some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchased outright."
"Thus, we will not and cannot focus on virtual sales only within the Incarna environment, nor build that environment around such sales; rather, we will effect a universal strategy of micro-sales throughout the EVE experience."
There is very clear and real intent to make the NEX store affect game play and not just clothing for your avatar. After all, CCP, you did just spend an entire patch cycle (if not longer) developing the framework for NEX and "micro"-transactions. To me, the only way to rectify this situation is to completely remove NEX.
Anyone who thinks NEX will be limited to the current concept of vanity items is delusional.
If you continue down this road and continue to push MT and the concepts and ideas that the Lead Designer himself CCP Soundwave is espousing. You will certainly lose my 3 subscriptions as well as many others.
CCP it is too late for words, this newsletter proves that your real goals are different than what you have been publicly feeding us. Saying NEX will only be for vanity is not enough. There is no trust past this point. You need to prove your worth and this games worth with actions. The only way to dig yourself out of this hole is to release a patch in the coming days that completely removes NEX and aurum.
