This whole permaban thing looks very much like desperate damage control than anything else. Remove a vocal player. Its the same logic that guides army snipers to kill the leaders of demonstrations in Syria and Libya. Take out the leaders and the sheeps may be easier to control.

Remember it is just a game, and they are just real people working doing their job (albeit badly for us); death threats and over the top insults don't serve any real purpose other than to make the person throwing them around look childish. A permanent ban is over the top though since you do actually regularly see a lot worse posted in game after ganking someone etc - those petitions never seem to result in much.
