Originally by: Jason1138 i don't know about some of the basement dwellers here with 30 accounts or whatever, but i'm betting these guys need a job more than i "need" eve. there are tons of games in the world, this is just one of them. and not the one made by the smartest person or made with the most love or made the best either
I suspect there are probably other jobs out there...
Regardless - I was lead to believe that the reason for much of this anger was because people liked EVE and wanted to continue playing the game they liked. Is that not the case? If nobody actually cares about EVE, are they just raging for the fun of it?
If you would be just as happy playing some other game - why rage on these forums? Why not just go play something else?

Jobs in Iceland, after the financial fallout, for a developer? The population is what less than 100k (I seem to remember it being about 65k but I'm sure thats wrong).

At least in my mind, the fact that we haven't seen anything so far isn't a good sign. Even a CM coming and saying "This is taking longer then expected, but we're working through the night and will post as soon as it's done" would be better then the silence that we've been treated to after blues stopped responding to the superthreadnaught.

Edited by: Erichan on 24/06/2011 17:06:27 In my most jaded self, I figure you'd think that this would blow over and be the normal overreaction to change from a vocal community. If not careful, though, it turns into Nero letting Rome burn....
Did he play violin or something while that happened? Anyone got one?

lol yeah, i'm sure Iceland is crawling with jobs for lousy PR people and questionable quality devs. The Atlanta office people will be fine, but Newcastle isn't a good job market right now either

Honestly, I figure after Hilmer there isn't anywhere to go. At least part of this is deciding when Hilmer speaks because after that.. there is no escalation.

Not quite, its about 320k. So still not an amazingly big population, and I'm willing to bet that CCP is a fairly substantial part of the economy.
Mind you, I don't think there's much chance of them going down over this. Even if all of the profanity spewing hatemongers in the various threads actually did leave there's still plenty of players who will stick around. -------------- |Miff to that| -------------- |

It was unfortunate that what started as constuctive criticism initially turned into a fair bit of trolling and foolishness..
Fact remains though, there have been some extremely good posts in 'that' topic, and CCP seems to be wilfully blind to the main problem. I'm guessing that its a combination of hoping the hate dies down, and trying to convince major stakeholders that a change of direction is in the companies interest (this won't be easy with bankers and accountants who only care about their calculators).
Just face it, if no MT for game altering items had been the goal, there no way on earth that they would let it get to 150+ pages of ranting without a denial, preferably a very quick one.
A sad day.

To be fair I wouldnt blame this on PR. remember CCP still hasnt figured out a response. Theres only so much a PR rep can do.

So while we're waiting for a reply that looks like it isn't coming, any suggestions for other games to play instead of EVE? I've heard lots of good things about World of Tanks, but outside of that I mainly only pay attention to single player games.

The best single player game that really comes very close to EVE is Freelancer. I got hooked on it and was basically the reason I moved to EVE. Freelancer used to have an MMO element, but MS failed to support it and so it died.

Several in my corp are looking into Perpetuum. Eve like (time based skills, single world, player economy) and mech/planetary based. Others have said its not good.
Skyrim, Black something, Star Trek Online, and SW The Old Republic have been mentioned.
Just what I have seen in posts. I'm still waiting for this to resolve before I walk away completely.

That's a few hours old by now. If it takes him that long to write an explanation of what's going on, it's likely that it will either be bullsh!t to us (they're sicking to their guns FFFFUUUUU), or bullsh!t to them (another empty, meaingless wall of text).

Agreed.
Originally by: Ahrman Vanaheim Fact remains though, there have been some extremely good posts in 'that' topic, and CCP seems to be wilfully blind to the main problem.
I haven't seen a whole lot of willful blindness, myself. I haven't seen a whole lot of anything from CCP, myself.
Originally by: Ahrman Vanaheim I'm guessing that its a combination of hoping the hate dies down, and trying to convince major stakeholders that a change of direction is in the companies interest (this won't be easy with bankers and accountants who only care about their calculators).
Like it or not, it is all about the bottom line.
Originally by: Ahrman Vanaheim Just face it, if no MT for game altering items had been the goal, there no way on earth that they would let it get to 150+ pages of ranting without a denial, preferably a very quick one.
I think the problem is that the community here on the forums is asking for some kind of garontee that Aurum for non-vanity items will never happen. And I don't think anyone is willing to give that kind of garontee, regardless of what the plans are right now. Because those plans may very well change in a month, or year, or two - and then they're faced with another sh!tstorm because CCP promised Aurum for non-vanity items would never happen.
---EDIT---
Originally by: MonoclesAreCool So while we're waiting for a reply that looks like it isn't coming, any suggestions for other games to play instead of EVE?
X3 is a very good, very EVE-like single player game.

Perpetuum is a nice game, costs very few, and given the company is stil new they actually take care of their game. Problem is not many players online, which considering it's a player driven economy isn't helping much thou, if EVE fails and people start moving over there... i'd suggest u go and give it a try

Why do I get the subtle feeling CCP is laughing at us? I can picture Soundwave, "These fools! We know they are addicted to this game and they know it too. They're just not smart enough to see the bigger picture. Let them stew over the weekend and come Monday, it will be business as usual."
Then the group clinks their beer bottles together, confident the money will roll in...

Of course. That is why players are saying EVE is dead.
It will continue (successfully or not is up to debate) with a new direction and new playerbase, but the EVE we once knew is long gone. ----- CCP exhibits an alcoholic personality...please read |
