eve-evolved-the-day-that-eve-online-died
Before Incarna went live, Torfi Frans Olafsson compared the expansion rollout to changing the engine on a racecar while it's doing 200 miles an hour on a track. This week we found that CCP may be intending to change the driver at the same time. While I do believe players are over-reacting and a lot of old anger has come out in these past few days, I find myself drained of my normal enthusiasm and wondering how CCP will ever claw its way back from this latest media disaster. The CSM is being flown to Iceland to discuss the issue in an emergency meeting, and I seriously hope that something good comes out of it. I don't want to look back on this weekend in years to come and say to people, "This was the day that EVE Online died."

But if we send isk to Nyphur he'll be up for a comercial licence.
Him or massively, either way.

What a biased article.
Maybe if you put in the fact that players have vocally whined at *EVERY* game change is why CCP is talking the metrics > forum whine index as far as how successful something is. ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

yes a lot of people have been digging, researching and looking at some of the latest developments in the pay to win models out there. The slideshow/presentation here is UTTERLY depressing to us as gamers and the fact many other companies seem to have switched to similar models point out EVE is indeed heading in the same direction. No need to use tinfoil hats or make facts and statistics out of our heads. It's plain to see, EVE set upon this course a long time ago and at this rate, only drastic measures will ever be able to somehow stem the tide of this mess.
Everything is slowly moving to a point where only the Gods themselves know how it will end. CCP has the sword grabbed by the pommel, we are simply begging to realize we have had the sword's edge over our necks for a while. They will keep profiting from us until they have another head to rest their guillotine, because we are being beheaded right now.
It's time to activate new plans of thinking, action and thought.

People have been vocal but I don't remember anything as bad as this.
But Eve will be dead if non-vanity items are added to the MT shop there's no two ways about that. What will be left will be something new, something quite a few of us won't want to play.

Success of the Rich comes at the expense and failure of the poor my friend. The poor are rioting because they have found they are hungry. How long can the poor sustain those in the top? How long can the masses of the virtual world remain chained feeding the dinner tables of the rich?
I laugh with sadistic glee at your "success" for it will be fragile and prove nothing in the long term. For you are one of us yet pretend to be one of them

CCP only needs people in doubt to "stay the course" and keep giving them money until they can do whatever it is they are planning to do (like a sellout?), so by the time they start adding P2W items it will be already too late. |

Were you around during either T20/Kugu time? Plenty of "old guard vets" left and absolute chaos for over a week on the forums.
Moongate was a bit smaller, but just as many idiots were clamouring for "FULL SERVER RESET"
Hell, every single EVE expansion has been NGE if you listen to the forums. ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

No this is easily worse. This is gettig play on gaming news aggregation sites now. And it has real leaked internal memos and emails.
This isnt something that can be swept under the rug.

Somewhere along the line, this changed and CCP began cultivating an adversarial relationship with the EVE playerbase on a strategic level. EVE players have shown little enthusiasm for Incarna, EVE Gate, and other recent projects, and CCP's response has been to try to force players to use them.
Ding-ding-ding, give this man a prize!

I this extract was significant:-
Quote: "Soon after Fearless was leaked, CCP responded to Massively's request for an interview by offering to have CCP Zulu answer any questions we had. I compiled a reasonable summary of the events leading up to the current player outrage and a list of detailed questions that would have answered every issue players were facing."
"Rather than responding to the questions, CCP Zulu published a devblog the following day attempting to address the Fearless and NeX price issues. The devblog didn't answer the main question of gameplay-affecting microtransactions and didn't answer any of the questions I had asked."

It is a decent summary of events up to this point.
I've always felt that EVE has suffered from CCP's lack of professional communications. The informality is great from a player's perspective as EVE is one of the few games where regular dev<->player interaction is the norm. It is bad however when things blow up in their face and they don't know how to properly deal with it.
I feel this whole mess has been largely a product of misteps in CCP's public communications following Incarna's release.

Fantastic article.
tl;dr CCP decided to **** the veteran players (golden geese) who made them rich in the hopes of ****ing the P2W douchebags and getting even richer.
Just say no to being sodomized in the eye by CCP! Don't buy a monocle!

You know what's sad? I think a lot of people in CCP who saw all this irrational stuff being pushed through actually agree with us (and I'm hoping more info is leaked because of that.) But when the management goes around triggering self destruct sequences all over the place people in lower echelons have little to do about it but go into strike.
Which will still be a gamble for anyone who's livelihood depends on having a job at CCP. They need to get rid of the current management before it's too late. Though maybe it already is. |

Edited by: Dr Lebroi on 26/06/2011 23:38:45 The question arises again when seen from the outside, why does CCP not like us? All we've done is support the game for many years, keep people in jobs and tell the world how cool their creation is. When and why did they adopt an strategically adversarial relationship with the playerbase. I'm at a loss to explain it.

My sub runs out in less than 3 weeks, they won't get anymore subs from me. If they still have not answered that question by then, I'll be gone anyway.

It tells it how it is from the perspective of someone who actually understands all the issues. What happened is extremely negative, and so is the article. There is nothing "too" about it. ... Return the Old Hangar Back... for Immersion.
