My thoughts.
Yes. We need more T1 battleships.
Not factional ships who are so rare they're only value is to parade in events.
We need battleships that fill certain gaps.
For example, we definitely need a Caldari Rail Gun battleship, in the tradition of the Moa. Perhaps something like an oversized Ferox that can hold at least five to seven rail guns.
We also need a dedicated Gallente Blastership. The Megathron is hardly optimized for this, and I won't call teh Mega a true Blastership, more like a compromise for me. A Deimos for example, is not a compromise. Reduce the drone bay to 1500m3, no missile turrets, and increase the grid. This baby is intended to hold at least four large neuts without grid upgrades. Dedicated to armor tanking.
We need a true dedicated Minmatar gunship. The Tempest is not quite it---its like a Raven with guns. This baby is not holding any missile launchers. It's for holding turrets only. Less drones, only 1500m3, with lots of grid for turrets and armor tanking.
And lastly, this being a more controversial idea, we need an Amarr support ship, a Khanid style battleship that combines Caldari and Amarr aspects like the Sacrilege and Vengeance. This machine can hold up to four missile launchers with lasers. It has a little more CPU and midslots than the other Amarr ships, so it can be used for EW support.
T1 battleships is currently the most popular class in EVE right now, and you only have eight ship models, compared to all the frigs and cruisers witht their T2 equivalents.
Dreadnaughts do not strike me as battleships. They are a new category beyond that intended to hold Xlarge weapons. Kind of like flying fortresses. Titans on the other hand, seems more like flying bases, or motherships.
I can understand that CCP is going to put a lot of time and money coding and modeling for new ships. But to make that effort worth it, the user base has to use it. For example, the Logistics class of ships only proved to be quite a waste. The Destroyer class has practically gone out of the public's eye---good firepower, but too vulnerable. Because HACs are so skill intensive, only the vet players with expensive implants and high skill points are flying them. True elitist toys. Same with the Assault class of frigs.
CCP has a choice.
Introduce ships whose ISK and skill requirements are so high, very few would be flying them, and only a moderately few would be flying them several months later.
Or introduce new ships that everyone could afford and find useful. All that coding and modeling will have an immediete impact on the game, and all that effort would not be to waste.
CCP should learn from the success of the Battlecruiser class which quickly became very popular. Give people ships that can be easily trained for, affordable, and useful enough. Give people what they need.
