Sigh. I wish salvaging wrecks was flaggable. So many more dead mission runners. Har.
I was about to say 4/10 to the OP before I realized he was serious.

wonderful. lets make salvaging flag for aggression so we have one more reason for mission runners to cry about getting blowed up by filthy pirates.
you wouldn't shoot at them if they were flagged anyway.

Again my problem is the 'rats' as I explained.
Gankers I don't care about, a ganker would just steal the loot from the wreck anyway to get flagged, since salvaging requires a salvager. Less slots for gank equipment. I doubt they would give up the slot just to be able to get tagged agro from salvaging.

first of all I would like to say, Im a ninja salvager, and I have a lot of good chuckles with my corpmates when regaling them with tales of scanning down innocent missioners doing level 4 missions, then warping in with my salvager fitted cheetah, scanning down said missioners with a sisters combat probe. I quickly salvage all their large and medium wrecks as they move from room to room ahead of me. Oh my goodness, the lol's, and nice salvage is extremely satisfying, but anyway, moving on, a couple weeks ago I was myself doing level 4 misssions in a certain system and a Heron warps into my pocket. He takes from a wrek and turns red. He was 77 km from me and i was going the wrong direction in my tengu so i warped out, hoping he would draw agro. I warp to the first gate and enter, again I see him warp in, closer but not close enough. I warp out again, again hoping he would get webbed and scrammed by the frigates. I warp back to the gate. I sit there for a moment. He warps into the gate. like lightening im on him with my targeting. locked! volley one! I see him go into structure. Another volley! His ship explodes and his pod scrambles away like a little mouse. Ha ha ha! my that was funny. of course he's coming back with his gang so I warp to a planet, then the sun, checking dscan. Combat probes spring up. I keep moving. 14 mins later the agro timer renews, then 14 mins later it renews again. I theorize he is shooting my wrecks or taking from a wrek agin. I log off. Ha ha ha. I won Eve that day, ha ha ha...

Imagine you shoot someone with a shotgun. Does that make his corpse your property ? ... No ? Same for wrecks. Period.

But it makes whatever he has on his body mine? (which is how it currently is with current settings)

I'm surprised this has come up again. Where are you missioning? With the new agent changes there's no excuse to be in a mission hub anymore. I've always done my missions in a less crowded system and have never had this 'problem'.
The only reason ninja salvaging works well is because people always cluster around agents. If there aren't many people in system its a lot less likely to be targeted by ninja salvagers. I know, I used to do it all the time.

Originally by: Dremox And the only way to get it changed is that enough people stand up and give CCP / CONCORD a wakeup call to reality.
Should it be changed? I think so. Why? Because everything in eve has a risk
If you want to steal salvage, that's fine, but you should RISK the 15 min agro timer..
I mean come on there is a reason that people can 'abandon wreck' if people don't want it, salvage away, but getting away free with stealing something, that can be worth more then 'loot' which you aren't allowed to steal?
and yes, it is stealing. Look up to Steal The salvage / garbage to some, can in many cases be worth more then the actual loot, meaning you are taking profit away from the person that did the work to create that possible profit.
If salvaging caused flagging, it would not stop ninja salvaging, it would mean more people like you would loose their mission ships. Be grateful that you cant shoot them.

I love how you have it all figured out Dremox.
You know, most ninjas still coem in on their salvage frigates and they will happily salvage all of your wrecks. If you are not in the room say goodbye to all the loot as well. They may want you to pop them..as said, most do. But if you are in another room/or you aren't popping, they will act like your so called "rats" until you do or it is all cleared. It does not help to make such a distinction if all you are interested is procuring all of your salvage and loot. Now, if they loot in the same room, then yes, they are defintly asking for you to pop them. And if you don't...they'll continue to loot/salvage.
And if you pop them, they won't be staying in the frigate salvage ship...they are going to bookmark the room, dock, get their gank ship and blast you out. ~Some pilots like it rough from a lady and I aim to please~ |

Salvage belongs to the person who salvaged it. That's why it's called salvage.

^ This. Either salvage as you go, or risk it to a salvager.

These settings should be the same as salvaging imho.

I think the current salvage settings is CCP's attempt to meet the issue halfway whether than say with certainty one way or the other. On the flip side you wouldn't want them to make loot work like salvage currently does now would you? What if they decide to go with the law of salvage 100% then maybe it is in your interest to keep things muddled.
