They should go, and unless they have a good explanation of why they cant they should be expelled from CSM. Its not in "peacetime" the CSM are needed. its in time of "turmoil and trouble"
I'd say real world commitments e.g their JOBS take priority over some game on the internet.
Originally by: Morae Edited by: Morae on 28/06/2011 16:30:01 On a related note, a coworker and I were wondering yesterday how, exactly, the CSMs are making this one on such short notice (assuming they have jobs and other obligations).
How exactly do you tell your employer, "Yeah, uh... I need half the week off. I have to fly to Iceland for an emergency meeting of the CSM..." Employer: CSM? CSM delegate: The uh... *cough*councilofstellarmanagement*cough* Employer: Stellar what? CSM delegate: It's... like NASA. Yeah.

I think you need to step away from the computer, get out into the sunlight, and realize just how much Internet Spaceships really mean in the long run.
Hint: It's about [] this much.

Edited by: Misanth on 28/06/2011 16:37:08 Out of curiosity, how long flights is it as well? Two days of CSM meetings might very well end up eating up four days of your RL/work time. Quite severe if you can't plan ahead.
Edit; as in how long flights, for those who has long ones.. ten hours for western US and/or Aussies? -

Maybe it's a fist-to-face meeting? lol
Seriously:
Body language is an important means of communication. And privacy is a concern. CCP can not technically guarantee IT security of CSM member computers.
Real life meetings are good.

17 hours from SFO.

Who cares.
Do you really think CCP needs the CSMs to get player feedback on a game that they play themselves and know more about than any non-CCP employee? I am not knocking the CSMs as players or people, I did the same job for a different game (and it was a massive pain in the ass), but the folks who believe that CCP are clueless or ignorant are fools.
And in the case of this game, where selection of CSM is a popularity contest more than anything else, the idea that these fine folks are necessary or add something to the discussion is ridiculous.

Because it's easy to take 2 days off of work for "internet spaceships" on short notice, grow a ****ing brain will you.
I did mention a good excuse did I? That might qualify for it!
What do not qualify is not going because they protest! That is a reason for being expelled!
So maybe its you who should grow a brain.
No, the post simply shows you're a whining idiot who wanted to add to the "discussion". Knowing Seleene's background, do you really think that he'd pass unless he had a pretty good reason? Or any of the other CSM we have atm? NO? thought so.

It's probably more like 7-8 hours from western US. Far longer for Aussies.
Keep in mind this doesn't account for layovers and possible volcano-induced delays. I bet only Los Angeles and *maybe* Seattle and San Francisco would have non-stop flights to Iceland from the western US. Aussies will probably almost definitely need at least one layover, possibly even two. I could easily see a flight from Australia to Iceland taking more than 16 hours.

That can't possibly be right. Did you account for timezones? I think it's closer to 8-9 hours.

like i said earlier 17-ish hours total travel time form San Fransisco. Curiously from Sydney it's closer to 30 hours total travel time.

Originally by: Hans Crow Guys,
I'm a little concerned at the short notice CCP has given the CSM team to fly out to Iceland. I imagine prior engagements, obligations, etc might not allow some CSM delegates to actually make the trip, not to mention there could even be some who don't have up-to-date passports.
Can we have a tally of who's going and who simply can't make it?
Heres the big joke... CCP actually makes the CSM fly to iceland when they could just as easily do things over skype or some other net based meeting software.

And we wonder why they have fiscal problems. Seriously though, I'm betting it's just a way to reward CSM for listening to CCP's side of the story. A bribe of sorts.

Edited by: Digital Messiah on 28/06/2011 16:47:47 I imagine even if they can't be flown out, with programs like skype and other video calling services. It shouldn't be that hard to have them there at least at a virtual level. So I don't even really see the reason to fly out at all. Unless of course the CSM's have magical powers that will make the difference by being there in person.

At such short notice it's not surprising, but Seleene not attending is bad news.

At the very LEAST what they should do is at least offer a skype option. I mean, come on, they were able to stream Eve Fest LIVE. Why can't they allow delegates who can't make it due to having a life call in?
