Today here at EVE DUST SummerFest 2012, CCP Tallest and CCP Guard revealed info and pictures about the upcoming ORE Frigate and the new Caldari Destroyer.

Ah, a ship that gets a gas harvesting bonus. How nice. I can stop using a battlecruiser for it.
And it looks like it runs away well too!

And why has the new ORE frig been given gas mining bonuses when it's intended as a stepping stone ship for newer players? Low SP characters won't be able to scan down ladar sites, so what's the point? Ugh. I thought CCP were getting rid of resource specialisation. |

More mining ships, kinda meh on that idea to be honest. Time to get EVE out of the mining business. Would be very cool to get a new ship or ship class specialized for bumping miners though

The POINT is we are getting a ship with a Gas Harvesting Bonus. And the training for it isn't that long. And these are not meant to be noob exclusive. The noobs would probably be working for someone who CAN scan the sites. Where did it ever say they were only to be stepping stones anyway ?? |

It does mention that they want it to have further use 'in hostile space', too, so it's not exclusively geared for lower SP players. However, with the removal of mercoxit and ice mining bonuses from barges in the last patch, this just seems counter-intuitive to the current philosophy of barge changes. |

We need more mining/industry/science ships. Maybe the next summer expansion should be industry focused (you could probably finish Incarna as well) |

The point is to get rid of a linear progression of mining ships where the next one up is simply better, meaning that no-one ever uses the earlier ships in the series.
Giving the mining frigate a distinct playstyle (an evasive and mobile ship able to go somewhere hostile to mine something 'useful' you might not have access to in your own space) means that players will continue to have a a reason for flying the frigate even after they can use a barge.
'Tiericide' is all about making every ship in EVE useful, rather than making certain ships the default choices and leaving the rest in obscurity.

lol it has ONE high slot...even with a 500% bonus it won't be better than a battlecruiser unless it has a huuuuuge cargobay |

lol, look at you. You should have stayed in that wormhole.
All indications point to this frigate having four high slots with three turret hardpoints. I'm willing to bet it'll have at least 1Km3 in cargo or gas/ore hold. This thing could actually end up being good for general jackassery, depending on the rest of the slot layout.

Humm, I starting to think bumping miners has a different meaning for you. Maybe something sexual. You "bump" the "miner" with your "ship". I'm going to say you are sexually repressed and you take your sexual feelings out on the miners with your ship.
Also, sweet a gas harvesting ship, and the new destroyer looks good. Now lets see the other races' destroyers. |

Procuror, etriever, and Covetor still have Ice Harvest bonuses. Hulk, Mackinaw, and Skiff all have Ice Bonuses. Only Mercoxit Bonus went away.
