Edited by: Chronos Chi on 21/02/2005 18:40:34 we could all use this time constructively,
- speak to our wives/husbands/girlfriends/boyfriends (feel free to delete as appropriate)
- feed our pets (only say this as i have just noticed my goldfish is swimming on its side)
- update our drivers (i'm sure Micro$oft has some money spinning updates to patch)
just a thought "Computer games donĈt affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, weĈd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitve electonic dance music..." |

Get it fixed, guys!
Just make sure it doesn't happen again.
This is why CCP is better than Blizzard. If CCP were Blizzard all these forums would be full of people going "wtf why don't they tell us what's going on?"
And WoW servers die all the time, so long live CCP.

CCP Games are based in Iceland, not the US. As such, they don't celebrate President's Day, and yes, the DBA (and the rest of the Devs/Programmers) are working on a solution to the db problems.
Erm, heres an interesting question.. who does run Iceland? does it even have a government, as far as Im aware, they dont have an army, they borrow one from the USA

you obviously haven't played since day 1, they "used" to tell us sweet fa, make poor patches with numerous bugs, not fix bugs that were months old, give unrealistic release dates of fix's oh thats still happening.

Question:
Will people who were in mining ops etc be compensated for the loss of the stuff, since we did not have any notice that this was about to happen.
If ships are destroyed (my scorp was tanking for a mining op) will they be replaced.
Your Tachyon Beam Laser I places an excellent hit on arkad [MOO], inflicting 702.3 damage.

All I know is that alot of players got dropped off and on this past weekend. Somtimes it seems account specific. Either that or yall cover different regions of the US. I had a friend drop every ten minutes.. I only dropped twice. So.. is this a data flow issue or hardware.. and yes I care because im paying. Good luck finding the problem... It just seems to me that it was coming because of what we were seeing this past weekend. Well its not the webserver.. since we can post. Must be those green slimy gremlins from wow...

What will happen to lost skill points? i can bare with "ccp cannot replace lost skill points", but the amount of skill points have lost due to server errors is starting to annoy me. CCP plz?
-------------------------------------------------------------- Making a new char picture will not work on the forums. The payment, however, does. |

Originally by: Bad Harlequin since no one fielded this, lemme just assure you that skill training is and always has been absolute. It's time based: the point counter and cute lil progress bar is just infocandy.
If you start a skill that takes 44 days, we can back up the DB, run off with it to Guam, set the colo on fire, rebuild it entirely, buy a new server farm, and restore the DB; and if it takes 30 days to do all this, the game will note the new absolute time at startup and you will have 14 days left. There isn't actually a little dude "training" anything in the servers, you know
Can you imagine if they actually wrote everyones skill points to the db in real time.

No insult taken at all. Sometimes I miss the moments of levity when a stressful situation is at hand and if I came across short, apologies on my part.

Originally by: kieron Due to a failure of the database server and the back-up db server, EVE is temporarily unavailable. The cause of the failures are being investigated and the servers will be restored as soon as possible.
From what I know about Database Systems (and I assure you, it is enough to be very dangerous), loosing both the main and backup db servers could be a bad thing. Is the data within/translaction logs intact?
Kieron, don't worry about it. Whilst you're running around tearing your hair out due to the servers going down, my wife is chuffed to bits that I am spending some time with her.

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

As far as I am aware, the information in the databases are intact and undamaged.

My hamster escaped once too. It disappeared for a few weeks and apparently had burrowed into a houseplant. Interestingly, it turning feral increased its weight considerably. It also made it rather vicious, in fact aggressive enough to bite through a part of my hand when I tried to retrieve it.
Goodluck with your server and keep your rabies kit handy.

Yep, the U.S.A is their Armed Forces. Perfect for thwarting penguin invasions.
wow,, there are less peeps in thier entire country then are in my city! The Eve owners must be uber-popular rich people over there! Way 2 go uber-popular rich peeps!
On the other hand they are a Republic like the U.S.... kinda neat, not too many of those.

From carebear hamster to pirate hamster in 2 weeks. EVE denizens could learn from this.
