It would also serve as a great isk sink
On the contrary, it should only be wearable by people with +30 charisma. Surely nobody else would be able to pull off wearing such a fine item...
It can be butt ugly, but if it gives +3 and costs alot it has three purposes. It will stop bitter dogs trolling as he is poor ingame :) It will give a attribute boost It will serve as a huge heatsink

I'd love to see how high they could get the price of fake clothes and accessories to go.
I'm not sure how they think 52 or even 152 of something sold to a customer base of 10s of thousands is a good thing but it is interesting to watch. It's basically a "throw enough sh!t against the wall and something is bound to stick" approach.
If you put me in a room of 10,000 people with a bucket of cow manure I'll guarantee you I'll find interested farmers and sell a few pounds. I won't make nearly as much as walking around with a crate of cheap cigarettes and probably starve for being a sh!t salesman but it sure would be a funny thing to see.

Originally by: Butter Dog CCP, thank you for introducing the monocle to the game.
We can all agree that the existing monocle is helpful in differentiating poor players from elite players, however there is a legitimate concern that the monocle is within the grasp of too many 'average' eve players - people may, for example, save up for a carrier but buy the monocle instead.
This will harm monocle sales, as elite players are put off by what could become a 'common' accessory. I would therefore urge to to introduce an 'elite monocle' (call it what you will), which should be available for the equivalent of not less than 10bn ISK.
Also, can I please request that the monocle looks different enough for people to be able to tell it apart from the existing monocle from a quick look at a character thumbnail.
The true elite of eve deserve something which reflects our status, and is firmly out of the reach of 'average' players.
Thank you for listening. This is not a troll - there would be a market for elite monocles.

well your monocle does say "common as muck" on the description
I think if you'd bought it for 100b isk = $4300 dollars you could truly call yourself one of the "elite".

Agreed, there should be no limit to the tax on stupidity.
Though more importantly a change should be introduced so that the item is lost when you are podded, after all only the truly rich would risk wearing one then if there was a chance of it being lost and how could any of you truly be elite enough to wear a monocle if you can be podded by a peasant.

Haha, yep. Isn't it ironic that any of our supposedly extravagant monocle-wearing chaps would buy something with the word "common" in the description? That's about equal to "peasant". Too funny.

I think such a prestigious and exclusive item should come with a very special lens. The topographical overt ocular lens wearer, or TOOL for short, would be a perfect addition for this market area. I think people notice exclusivity and this would be a large selling point for this item which would easily differentiate the wearer from the rest of the population.
It is important for the TOOL to be acknowledged and for the non-TOOLĘs to be able to quickly identify the TOOL and help avoid those awkward social situations where the TOOL might actually be recognised as a regular person.
+1 this idea and congratulations TOOLs.

Actually, this really is the best idea I have ever seen posted by such an obvious Dev Alt and/or Troll.
Seriously. I'm not kidding. This is a FANTASTIC idea. CCP should have $100, $1000, and even $10000 monocles in game. They SHOULD!
I mean, when these monocles and crap came into the game, I was totally convinced they were utterly pointless and a total waste of CCP development time. Now I can see, I couldn't have been more wrong.
I mean, think about it guys. The MORE ludicrously expensive this stuff is, the quicker CCP can get the money they need because of their own dreadful mismanagement; and the ONLY people that will be paying to bail CCP out will be the lowest form of life in the game; I.E. The completely insecure and underdeveloped ego Peac_ocks! How awesome is that!?!?
Seriously. Do you REALLY want to give CCP more money when they don't deserve what we ALREADY give them? Me neither. But CCP needs to get it from somewhere, or the game we all love is going under eventually from continued inept management. This is actually a perfect solution. Let these monocle wearing morons foot the bill for all of us! I mean, they seem so happy to do it. I say:
LET THEM!
Cheers all!
P.S. Oh, almost forgot the other "use" I discovered for the monocles: it has started to give me a really good chuckle when I see someone MORONIC enough to have blown perfectly good money on something so utterly useless. Honestly, I get TRUE entertainment value out of seeing the people with them. I honestly ask people not to hunt them down or do anything like that. Please. Let them wear them around and "show them off" for the world to see. Please don't hunt them down and take their monocles away by podding them; I get too much joy out of watching them parade around and think their all cool and shyt. Seriously, please let them keep them for as long as they like! And PRETTY PLEASE keep egging them on so they buy MORE. If we do that, then WE don't have to EVER buy any of this horrid looking crap, or get stuck buying something WORSE, to bail CCP out.
Again, cheers all!

If CCP would be really serious about making people "special" and raising above the masses they would introduce indeed a more expensive item:
A technetium forged circlet, encrusted with the finest nanoribbons.
Cost: 125.999 AUR
Wearing the circlet will change all your attributes by -12. So only the really elite will wear this because they already have learned all skills and don't care about slow skill training time.
Cannot be removed except by destroying the clone which also destroys the circlet.
Are YOU brave enough to wear such a thing? |

Edited by: Nix Gravity on 29/06/2011 16:49:51 Edited by: Nix Gravity on 29/06/2011 16:49:20 There is some serious misunderstanding of how PLEX and Aurum work going on from the proponents of this thread.
Purchasing the monocle "with isk" doesn't show you as somebody who is able to waste 1bn isk on this piece of... code, lets say. Because the 1bn never leaves the system, it just transitions to another player.
Purchasing the monocle designates you as somebody who believes that CCP should be exempt from providing 4 months of subscription to somebody because of this awesome item they invented.
Plex work well because they bring in more players: they allow the cash-rich to subsidise a cash-poor player and in exchange receive a fair amount of isk, as determined by the player-driven market. Nex junk takes away these players' chance to continue playing by investing in-game time instead of real life cash. The isk you "spent" on it just transitions to another player but the plex goes away, leaving fewer players in the game every time a monocle is bought, even without counting the ones actively quitting.

it would be more awesome if that monocle requires a skill or skills to be equipped, or a minimal skills!! higher class are not only rich but also educated! also it better be able to move around once we can see other players avatar face to face

Monocle description: A common implant found throughout New Eden, the Looking Glass ocular implant offers vision enhancement or replacement beyond the capabilities of low-profile prosthetics. Filters, lenses, NeoCom interface, and blackbox video recorders are all standard issue with this implant.
Since my character spends most of the time aboard a starship, I am assuming these features would be redundant. These sound like standard pod features to me.
