Possibly too specific a question...
but how would you all generally feel about ccp selling paintjobs from existing ship models?
i.e. I want my navy issue scorp painted up like a widow -OR-
I want my Mega painted like a Roden shipyards Mega?
Seems like it could be an easy way for CcP to make a bit of extra money w/o having to create new ship paintjobs/skins

it seems like a lot of CCP has lost touch with its consumer base, they sees eve players as a cash cow, instead of as investors and partners, which seemed to be the old attitude they had towards us. Can this change in direction be turned around and has this event maybe catalysed a return to the more open, communicative CCP of old?

Id just like to say about the high ISK prices of the vanity items in relation to RP. Well as you know the current system you get a new one when you get podded while wearing it so it would seem you have a lifetime supply of the item.

Originally by: jackaloped Ok this is crap. Why isn't this moved to my eve. Can every podcast and radio show advertise on eve general or just the pro ccp ones?
If anyone knows the answer please let me know. Why is this in eve general? Are there other shows or podcasts whose advertisements stay on this forum?

oh good grief... There is a crew on the ship... You the pod pilot is basically just replacing the bridge crew...
the question about CSM RP ing is that there are a number of RP players and it doesn't sound that CSM actually represents them. --------

just tuned in, but: how will CCP deal with the pressure to spend more time adding new MT items (direct revenue) against longterm investment like space features?

CCP: we have data that shows people are going to buy vanity items CSM: we don't see any reason anyone would care about mere vanity items
That disconnect in thinking is a flashing warning light to me.

Either only fanbois goto fan events, too few people with issues can/do go and/or speak up, OR ccp still doesn't care when players show up to their parties being debbie downers.
I'm not about to make a special trip to talk to a dev in a sea of people trying to buy them a beer I'd rather shoot a statue and forum rage on my schedule thanks.

Well, that was a pleasant evening. My apologies to those of you whose questions we didn't get to, or did not ask. As I had mentioned on air, the original intent of tonight's show was to discuss the CCP/CSM statement that we were under the impression was to be released earlier in the day. When we got word that it was being delayed until tomorrow or sometime thereafter, our options were to cancel the show, or go on with what we had, which was a big fat NDA for our guests we had to gingerly dance around, because they're under an almost complete gag order until the official statement is released.
By coming on air with us, Seleene and VileRat ran the chance of slipping up and disclosing something they should not, and risk heavy consequences as a result. It was our responsibility to not forcibly put them in a position where that might happen, and as a result, questions that looked to us like they would put the 2 CSMs (The ONLY 2 who would agree to come on air with us at such a sensitive time) into a compromising position with regards to the NDA were skipped over.
Many of your questions (trolling aside) were very good, and deserving of answers. You have my assurance that both Brendan and I will do our best to get those that are not addressed satisfactorily through the statement in front of CCP Zulu at Tuesday's press conferences.
============
For myself, I have attempted to stay balanced and neutral during these discussions. If you want my personal opinions of what's going on, I have very grave concerns about the direction eve is taking right now. I am slightly less concerned today than I was a week ago, largely thanks to the overwhelming community response to CCP over the last 2 weeks, and I'm under the impression that CCP understands how grave the situation really is, and realizes this isn't a small vocal minority talking tough but doing little.
You guys have made a big enough scene that all eyes of the online gaming world are focused intently on everything CCP is doing right now. Because of this, I also understand that CCP needs to tread VERY carefully in anything they say and do leading up to the joint statement we're all waiting for. Any leaks, or misguided interpretations released before the statement has potential to cause such an uproar that what is said afterwards is irrelevant.
CCP has one last chance to fix this situation. Failure here in the eyes of the community could potentially be fatal, so care, understandably as far as I'm concerned, needs to be taken.
Personally, I don't give half a poop about vanity items for MTs. I sincerely hope someone undocks near me in space with $100 gold paint on their ship, because I foresee Aurum tears being tastier than any I have thus far had the pleasure of sampling. (I just hope the fact that it's painted shows up on the kill mail.) I think I know this community well enough to know that the only safe place for such vanity is docked up.
Items that would have an effect on gameplay is where I (again personally) draw the line. Eve, at it's core is a vast open market. That market is what enables every other aspect of the game to occur. Once you start circumventing it by conjuring ships, ammo, etc from thin air, you tear out Eve's heart. Unacceptable.
I'm also quite against forcing content on anyone (ie CQ). No one is forced to do FW, or incursions, or wormholes, or sov in 0.0 or missions, or ANY other aspect of the game. There are advantages to doing any of those, but they are for the individual player to decide what those are, and if they're worth it. Eve is a sandbox, please keep her that way.
No matter what is said tomorrow, the fanbois will probably still be behind CCP, and those who want to see eve burn will probably not change their views. It's those still waiting for all the facts that will have the most say in Eve's fate when it comes time to decide.
I hope that clears up my positions somewhat, and I eagerly await what CCP has to say for itself over the coming days.

I only listened to the last half of the show, so forgive me if it was discussed in the first half, but I find it odd that any kind of frank discussion can exist regarding the potential impact of the possibly upcoming pay-to-win changes without discussing the already existing (for years) PLEX pay-to-win system. It's alomost as if it's a taboo topic.

Almost everything was a taboo topic. It was an entertaining show, but when it was originally planned, it was thought that CSM/CCP statement would have already come out. Since the CSM guests were still under NDA and given that everyone knew that their words, even their mood or tone of voice, would be intensely analyzed for clues, there was very little that could actually be discussed. So it wasn't so much a dicussion as a tease for the discussion to come once the statement is released.

Somewhat off the topic of the srs bsns discussed on the last show, I'd like to comment on some of the role-play/immersion stuff that was talked about a bit.
I find the LOLRPers tone of some EVE players amusing and somewhat strange given that many of the same qualities that make EVE a unique game are also what make it one of the best options for RP in the MMO space. These qualities include: the single server shard, sandbox play (and the lack of predefined, force-fed goals), the fact that there are non-combat gameplay options, and the fact that it is a contemporary/sci-fi universe.
I think the primary benefit of some of these qualities is that they enhance immersion and enable role-playing. I mean, if you're a pirate and you like thinking of yourself as a pirate in game, that's role-playing. You may not have an elaborate backstory or be strict about separating the RL/EVE knowledge, but you're still basically indulging a form of escapism by playing a role in the game. It's not actually a huge leap to go from that point of view to that of someone that might readily self-identify as a role-player. There may be a little stigma to being a RPer, but come on, you're playing EVE -- you're already a nerdy weirdo.
Also, on the show, there was an argument (paraphrased:) that it is impossible for a true RPer to let his immersion break because it's always possible for the role-player to reframe anything they see or hear in the universe as something which makes sense in the game world. While there is some merit to this argument, there comes a point where this becomes untenable.
If several people are talking about things that are obviously meta-game (note: in a sci-fi universe, I don't think talk of DPS has to be a meta thing) or out-of-genre concepts, it's not really reasonable to dismiss it as all of those people suffering a collective delusion, although in some cases you could just try to attribute it to your character's own ignorance. However, there are problems even with this.
What wasn't acknowledged on your show is that immersion, like any state of mind, is not completely voluntary. There are things you can do to strengthen your sense of immersion, but ultimately it's no more possible to "always remain immersed" than it is to "always be happy" or to "always stay focused." It's an inherently fragile mental/emotional state that can be broken by factors that may be outside your control. If you have to think about how you can reframe something in a way that makes sense in the game universe, your sense if immersion has already been broken.
Also, yes, FunkyBacon may be pleased to learn that ships do have crews.

Well ok I will take your word for it that you didn't ask this because of some possible nda stuff. But this question is not even addressed in the press release from csm or ccp so I would appreciate it if someone would ask it.
The 18 months from csm 5 june summit runs in december. At that time they explained they would have only a few devs on in space eve. Here is the question:
Originally by: jackaloped Edited by: jackaloped on 02/07/2011 00:36:57
Can CCP indicate when they may assign more devs to the actual gameplay of eve (in space eve)? If so, when and how many?
Also it would be good to know how many devs they have assigned to other games such as WOD and Dust. Ask this last if you have the nerve.
thanks
