Edited by: DJ FunkyBacon on 01/07/2011 21:19:11 Tonight at Midnight we'll be picking up the discussion where we left off last week. Brendan Drain from Massively.com will be joining us again as well as former CCP employee and current CSM delegate, Seleene. There is an open invitation standing to any member of the CSM team currently in Iceland, though I am told most may be passed out from alcohol poisoning by showtime. A clever tactic CCP! (I kid, I kid)
For those who may not be aware, Seleene was not able to fly to Iceland, though he has been attending most of the summit through teleconference, and has first hand knowledge of what has transpired thus far. How much he is able to share with us is another question, though we will certainly obtain as much as the NDA will allow us at this point.
Last week's show was one of our most popular ever, gaining over 1800 live listeners, and over 5000 downloads that we're able to track. Tonight could be even bigger.
What Tonight's Show is: A discussion between myself, willing CSM delegates and you folks here posting in this thread regarding present and future events in eve. This will be done in a professional and courteous manner.
What Tonight's Show is not: Che FunkyBacon leading the revolution to take down CCP. You don't get willful cooperation from most people by whipping it out and having a pee in someone's eye. If you were part of the discussion last week, I think you know where I'm going here. I'm a concerned member of the community like anyone else, but I don't think using flames and aggression is a good way to gather information.
----- Anyways, I'm sure you guy have questions and issues you'd like brought up, please make your postings below. This time around we should have more time for specific player questions and topics providing something else doesn't get leaked in the middle of the broadcast.
Further Info: Eve Radio Website My Facebook Page Twitter = @FunkyBacon Download and listen to Last Week's Show While no one from CCP will be on with us tonight, both Brendan and myself will be attending CCP press conferences this coming Tuesday, where we WILL have direct access to CCP to ask questions that need answering at that point.

If you have a world clock on your phone you can look up Reykjavik. I have one clock set to that time and it's 21:32 EvE and Iceland time right now which is 2:32pm on the West Coast (L.A., Portland, Seattle) of the U.S. and 5:32pm on the East Coast (NY, Miami, Boston).

CSM delegates who were not there physically had the option to join in through teleconferencing. I'm unsure if there was a video feed, but I know they were part of the conferences and discussions as they were happening.

CSM Guest Clarification: Our 2 confirmed guests this evening, while NOT in Iceland for the conference, attended the conference through skype, were able to hear everything that was discussed, and were able to speak and be heard in said conferences as well.
^-Added that to the OP. There seems to be some confusion as to what the direct knowledge of our guests tonight is.

Edited by: Soden Rah on 01/07/2011 22:05:00 A lot of the 'rage' these past few weeks has been about the MT issues...
The statements to date do not have much in the way of info about what was talked about in terms of immersion and RP and CQ...
Namely the loss of the hanger view with players forced to disembark into CQ on every undock... And the pod weirdly sitting out on the end of a gantry instead of being in its own room... not to mention the litteny of lighting and technical issues...
So could Seleene comment at all as to whether these issues were discussed in detail? and whether they will be properly addressed in the upcoming statement? Even if he can't reveal details of the actual content.
I am concerned like most people about MT... But if the MT issue gets solved that still leaves the issues we had with CQ pre launch, And I don't want those issues to be forgotten.
Also last question... Was there discussion about CCP communicating better [At all] with those testing and giving feedback on features on SiSi, and in development?
I may not be able to stay up for the live show... could you post a link to the download in this thread when its up?
Thanks
Soden Rah
EDIT: oh yes one other thought....
Will CCP be talking soon about what future things will be NeX items, an what will be in game player made items...
IE ship paint jobs, corp/alliance decals, CQ upgrades furniture and such, corp/alliance meeting rooms, promenade shops and such....
Basically are they going to charge extra for any/all the Incarna content... If they are I will probably stay quit, I Was looking forward to having my own customised CQ and meeting up in alliance meeting rooms for strategic briefings and such... proper immersion stuff... and if they are going (after advertising it and making me want it for years) to try to make me pay extra for immersion I am afraid I will have to leave. --------

Please read this post and ask Seleenne and Vile Rat if I am pretty damn close to what is going to happen.
Originally by: Vandrion Ok peoples.. My two cents about the statement and the CSM:
1- The CSM was summoned to express our concerns. They did. CCP is the one that can decide what they are going to do. The CSM can't change what CCP's decision is. Deal with it.
2- The CSM is legally obligated to STFU... That's right folks! The Non-Disclosure Agreement means that the members of the CSM can be held LEGALLY responsible for disclosing information until CCP gives them permission....
3- If you cannot understand this please GTFO of the game called life or atleast go get neutered/spayed so you can't breed your special brand of stupid........
Dev Blog/Statement:
It is very easy to answer either yes or no.... That is not the answer we are going to get. CCP's answer will be BOTH yes and no.
Here is the NO:
No we won't see WTFBBQPWN Jovian BS that can take down PL's entire SC fleet solo No we won't see ammo that gives 5000% bonus to damage and hits for wrecking damage every time No we won't see mods that give you a 99% bonus to resist
In other words the NO means we won't get super obvious game breakers....
Here is the YES:
Yes we will be able to buy faction standings Yes we will see ammo that gives you a slight bonus to damage or cap usage Yes we will see faction towers reintroduced via the Nex Yes we will see attribute boosters and skill enhancers like Quafe Zero
Now you see why it is taking time to make the statement... CCP has to spin it in an acceptable manner so 50% of the subscribers don't rage quit.....

No actually I listen to ER a lot and to be honest Funky's show is not my cup of tea. I also figure what we will get is BS and I can not discuss what was said however I am good at hearing what has not been said and reading how things are being said. I will not jump to any conclusions as I am waiting for the official announcment but I want as much (or little) real info as I can get as soon as possible. Was the Dust/EVE link talked about and clarified? That is the next big issue in my opinion.
CCP has sayed they are going to keep the link small at first but the way they dealt with the issues this last week makes me douteful.
How do you seperate the pay for advantage Dust model and the EVE hopefully pay for advantage free model.
On another thread I speculated that possibly the solution was make P4advantage items in fights that involve eve players have a downside like easier targtabiliy from space. That way if a Dust team realises they are fighting a P4advantage using team they can call up help in eve to balance the sides. This will also boost eve players participation . As everyone likes to kill stuff people have payed real money for.

Erm you needed to bold one more word...
It wasn't the best worded phrase but he said 'hopefully pay for advantage FREE model'
And in response to Salpun... I would like to get this mess sorted before thinking about the next one... particularly as CCP is not likely to release any details yet as to exactly how dust interacts with eve as they won't have worked it out yet. Asking for early feedback would be a good move on their part, but this mess needs to be fixed first. --------

This didn't get addressed last time, hopefully it will this time.
Obviously we can already purchase power items for real money with PLEX->ISK. One of the redeeming qualities of the PLEX system is that we can choose to not support the PLEX system ( and bazaar ). We can choose to earn the items in game. This makes PLEX a Zero Sum Game PLEX was also acceptable since it was a direct attack on 3rd party RMT which everyone favors.
AURUM is a one way conversion. Which means you can NEVER break even. I bought PLEX late last year, sold it, and later earned 350mil and "sold" the isk back by applying the new plex. You can't do this with AURUM. PLEX goes in but can't come back out.
Also, AURUM uses a bull**** marketing driven conversion rate ( price points ). You are only allowed to buy a $20 bill, but all the items cost $21 so you have to purchase $40. Another goal of this system is to disassociate the real life value of the currency so consumers will spend more than they want (see MS points or Zynga bucks or w/e). This is compounded since you have to deal with at least 2 currency conversions and possibly three.

Has a follow up meeting between CCP and the CSM (either physically or by VOIP/Skype etc) been organized or do both parties believe that all issues have been resolved without the need for further discussion?

The are the NGO towards CCP. CCP cannot talk to players, so they are obviously happy to invite the CSM. Flying the CSM to Iceland on short notice is really not for fun.
CCP is influenced by players through the CSM. It will not be CSMs fault if CCP does not agree with every single player's opinion at the same time. |

Please CSM members realise that for RP players 'vanity' items are important for immersion and if they are to be AUR items that breaks immersion which removes the point...
Please talk about this this is not NDA stuff...

Unfortunately it wasn't enough people for CCP to care, as they are used to ignoring good constructive feedback and then when people yell they still ignore it. Perfect examples the CC and the 'new' forums people tested them and yelled about the shortcomings CCP didn't care.
Only when a mass uprising swells up do they look at it and think 'oh we better deal with this' not 'oh maybe what they are saying is valid' or 'we should consider their thoughts' just 'we need to deal with this' read 'spin'/damage control.
So unless there is a fundamental change in CCP after this, doubtful, we'll continue to see CCP's SOP; push out crap ignoring testing feedback/bugs/etc or just work on them after releasing an inferior product/feature. Some things will get fixed but the rest of the issues are 'working as intended'. That or many more people will have to test and rage on a continuing basis for CCP's poor QA/development process.

For the press conference: I think it's important, if they DO rule out direct MTs for non-vanity transactions, to get an absolute guarantee that non-vanity products will never be attached on somehow indirectly to MTs, i.e. it's critical to ensure their answer is not given with any potential future loopholes to begin to ease all of this understandable anger and distrust in the community.

it seems like a lot of CCP has lost touch with its consumer base, they sees eve players as a cash cow, instead of as investors and partners, which seemed to be the old attitude they had towards us. Can this change in direction be turned around and has this event maybe catalysed a return to the more open, communicative CCP of old?

Anybody can sit there and "presume" to know what someone would think if they were in CCP's shoes in this situation...
The question was...
What impression were you left with?
It's okay to say, "We only teleconferenced in so we didn't see body language or really see much facial detail etc etc."

Funky! So far so good!
Question: Would you please ask each member of the panel to offer their opinion on the following; "Based on your experience at the CSM Summit, do you expect EvE will continure to thrive and grow, with the projected course CCP has chosen?".
Try it, I would like to know and assume others would dig that question -

And do the concerns of RP'ers in eve get represented by The CSM?
I ask because saying that buying CQ Upgrades and such in the NeX is ok, is Horrible from a RP/immersion standpoint.

Good grief DUST514 IS going to be PART of EVE, MT are PART of EVE. Limiting yourselves to just this little snippet of the problem is no different than asking if the issues will happen this week and NOT asking or caring what happens after that.
We KNOW Dust514 will have MT asking how that effects EVE OR at least bringing it up to CCP so they don't operate on the idea that whatever they want to do is 'cool' in addition to working on it for months before they ever look or think about it from a player's POV.

i.e. I want my navy issue scorp painted up like a widow -OR-

Well, that was a pleasant evening. My apologies to those of you whose questions we didn't get to, or did not ask. As I had mentioned on air, the original intent of tonight's show was to discuss the CCP/CSM statement that we were under the impression was to be released earlier in the day. When we got word that it was being delayed until tomorrow or sometime thereafter, our options were to cancel the show, or go on with what we had, which was a big fat NDA for our guests we had to gingerly dance around, because they're under an almost complete gag order until the official statement is released.
By coming on air with us, Seleene and VileRat ran the chance of slipping up and disclosing something they should not, and risk heavy consequences as a result. It was our responsibility to not forcibly put them in a position where that might happen, and as a result, questions that looked to us like they would put the 2 CSMs (The ONLY 2 who would agree to come on air with us at such a sensitive time) into a compromising position with regards to the NDA were skipped over.
Many of your questions (trolling aside) were very good, and deserving of answers. You have my assurance that both Brendan and I will do our best to get those that are not addressed satisfactorily through the statement in front of CCP Zulu at Tuesday's press conferences.
============
For myself, I have attempted to stay balanced and neutral during these discussions. If you want my personal opinions of what's going on, I have very grave concerns about the direction eve is taking right now. I am slightly less concerned today than I was a week ago, largely thanks to the overwhelming community response to CCP over the last 2 weeks, and I'm under the impression that CCP understands how grave the situation really is, and realizes this isn't a small vocal minority talking tough but doing little.
You guys have made a big enough scene that all eyes of the online gaming world are focused intently on everything CCP is doing right now. Because of this, I also understand that CCP needs to tread VERY carefully in anything they say and do leading up to the joint statement we're all waiting for. Any leaks, or misguided interpretations released before the statement has potential to cause such an uproar that what is said afterwards is irrelevant.
CCP has one last chance to fix this situation. Failure here in the eyes of the community could potentially be fatal, so care, understandably as far as I'm concerned, needs to be taken.
Personally, I don't give half a poop about vanity items for MTs. I sincerely hope someone undocks near me in space with $100 gold paint on their ship, because I foresee Aurum tears being tastier than any I have thus far had the pleasure of sampling. (I just hope the fact that it's painted shows up on the kill mail.) I think I know this community well enough to know that the only safe place for such vanity is docked up.
Items that would have an effect on gameplay is where I (again personally) draw the line. Eve, at it's core is a vast open market. That market is what enables every other aspect of the game to occur. Once you start circumventing it by conjuring ships, ammo, etc from thin air, you tear out Eve's heart. Unacceptable.
I'm also quite against forcing content on anyone (ie CQ). No one is forced to do FW, or incursions, or wormholes, or sov in 0.0 or missions, or ANY other aspect of the game. There are advantages to doing any of those, but they are for the individual player to decide what those are, and if they're worth it. Eve is a sandbox, please keep her that way.
No matter what is said tomorrow, the fanbois will probably still be behind CCP, and those who want to see eve burn will probably not change their views. It's those still waiting for all the facts that will have the most say in Eve's fate when it comes time to decide.
I hope that clears up my positions somewhat, and I eagerly await what CCP has to say for itself over the coming days.

I only listened to the last half of the show, so forgive me if it was discussed in the first half, but I find it odd that any kind of frank discussion can exist regarding the potential impact of the possibly upcoming pay-to-win changes without discussing the already existing (for years) PLEX pay-to-win system. It's alomost as if it's a taboo topic.

We discussed this heavily on last week's show when all this stuff kicked off.

Almost everything was a taboo topic. It was an entertaining show, but when it was originally planned, it was thought that CSM/CCP statement would have already come out. Since the CSM guests were still under NDA and given that everyone knew that their words, even their mood or tone of voice, would be intensely analyzed for clues, there was very little that could actually be discussed. So it wasn't so much a dicussion as a tease for the discussion to come once the statement is released.

Somewhat off the topic of the srs bsns discussed on the last show, I'd like to comment on some of the role-play/immersion stuff that was talked about a bit.
I find the LOLRPers tone of some EVE players amusing and somewhat strange given that many of the same qualities that make EVE a unique game are also what make it one of the best options for RP in the MMO space. These qualities include: the single server shard, sandbox play (and the lack of predefined, force-fed goals), the fact that there are non-combat gameplay options, and the fact that it is a contemporary/sci-fi universe.
I think the primary benefit of some of these qualities is that they enhance immersion and enable role-playing. I mean, if you're a pirate and you like thinking of yourself as a pirate in game, that's role-playing. You may not have an elaborate backstory or be strict about separating the RL/EVE knowledge, but you're still basically indulging a form of escapism by playing a role in the game. It's not actually a huge leap to go from that point of view to that of someone that might readily self-identify as a role-player. There may be a little stigma to being a RPer, but come on, you're playing EVE -- you're already a nerdy weirdo.
Also, on the show, there was an argument (paraphrased:) that it is impossible for a true RPer to let his immersion break because it's always possible for the role-player to reframe anything they see or hear in the universe as something which makes sense in the game world. While there is some merit to this argument, there comes a point where this becomes untenable.
If several people are talking about things that are obviously meta-game (note: in a sci-fi universe, I don't think talk of DPS has to be a meta thing) or out-of-genre concepts, it's not really reasonable to dismiss it as all of those people suffering a collective delusion, although in some cases you could just try to attribute it to your character's own ignorance. However, there are problems even with this.
What wasn't acknowledged on your show is that immersion, like any state of mind, is not completely voluntary. There are things you can do to strengthen your sense of immersion, but ultimately it's no more possible to "always remain immersed" than it is to "always be happy" or to "always stay focused." It's an inherently fragile mental/emotional state that can be broken by factors that may be outside your control. If you have to think about how you can reframe something in a way that makes sense in the game universe, your sense if immersion has already been broken.
Also, yes, FunkyBacon may be pleased to learn that ships do have crews.

Well ok I will take your word for it that you didn't ask this because of some possible nda stuff. But this question is not even addressed in the press release from csm or ccp so I would appreciate it if someone would ask it.
The 18 months from csm 5 june summit runs in december. At that time they explained they would have only a few devs on in space eve. Here is the question:

Can CCP indicate when they may assign more devs to the actual gameplay of eve (in space eve)? If so, when and how many?
Also it would be good to know how many devs they have assigned to other games such as WOD and Dust. Ask this last if you have the nerve.
thanks

Many of your questions (trolling aside) were very good, and deserving of answers. You have my assurance that both Brendan and I will do our best to get those that are not addressed satisfactorily through the statement in front of CCP Zulu at Tuesday's press conference....
Originally by: jackaloped Ok I guess this couldn't be answered. Please ask this at the press conference.

Yes jack, that topic was broached at the conference. In a nutshell the answer is that people have been hired and teams added to work on the new stuff and the number of people working on space stuff remains roughly what its been.

My sincere thanks for making sure you got the answer to that question.
It is what I figured when I unsubbed. Did they give any information when they might start devoting devs to the inspace part of eve?
