Instead of spending $30 on your current machine, you find the more intelligent solution would be to sink a few hundred grand into the infrastructure necessary to run an imaginary EVE clone...
I think I would instead suggest you bone up on some decent trouble shooting skills first, and worry about the rest of it a few years from now when you're done.

I've tried a couple Eve freeshards as well as SWG pre-nge freeshards They are a lot of fun.
Freeshards exist for just about all the popular mmo's but the paid servers have better servers and content usually. -----------------------

What skills do you have at fixing bugs? What skills and knowledge do you have in Eve code? How many servers will you have to run Eve cloned? How will you be able to advance and evolve Eve?
Personally, I think your dreaming....

Well, if for some magical reason allowed CCP this to happen I would be willing to invest in it top dollah out of my own pocket to be one of the shareholders in the company, and I know about 3 to 10 guys that could given a proper business plan invest up to 100k each here in Panama, since the Tech exists here in the Country or we could check out the booming IT business in Costa Rica. If you can lay it out in a properly modeled business plan I can get you investors within a 1 year timeframe for long term commitment, thing is need the project in rock solid form and easy to check backgrounds from you. Copyright infringements here are muddy and depend solely on how much you can bribe the judge and by which medium too haha You could even alter eve to be called EVA and change the races name to make it sound completely different and alter some of the code and voila, you could even copyright it. Latinamerica is like that, Nintendo was copyrighted to an individual here for years instead of the real company , So many loopholes, but well, this is just dreaming.
On the same line I know A LOT of people that would also log on that server regularly. And no I'm not kidding, Panama is Investor's heaven and you can get solid financial backing from Banks and private entities if you lay out a real non scammy business prop. Can't say anything more but if you really that serious we can discuss this further somewhere else.
If it's just an angst ridden post, I feel you man, I feel the same with current CCP business practices, there's so much money to be made off it and they taking the cheap route tsk tsk.
Also I honestly believe CCP would never do that, since it would be further fracturing their current userbase, but I hope I can see pirate shards of the game around, the appeal of subbing yearly to them is not that strong right now in me anyway, right now I'm just waiting to see if their "promises" turn out to be real and can have some sort of "ship spinning" non Incarna enabled environment back like it was before. I really give a crap about them selling monocles for 1million dollars for all I care, but I miss the streamlined experience of the old EVE during docking.
Anyway if you ever come here and want to learn about the gorgeous business opportunities in this wonderful country contact me

So I need to spend $2000 on two machines now to be able to play four accounts on Eve?
I run 3 clients on a rig I put together 3 years (Q9650 Quad CPU, 6GB RAM and 2xHD3870) ago but it works fine. OK CQ is a bit slow but off station I get 60fps on each client no problem with max setting (AA is off because I run in windowed mode). I may invest in new graphics cards sometime down the line but it's not a priority yet.
BTW I don't have any problems with crashing and both cards run at about 65degC which ain't bad for fanless cards having a single 120mm fan blowing air over them.

Wohooo... Cl380 :) And who is paying you bills ? This CL is quite uneffective in matters of load and power consumption. And btw run a eve clone cluster you need more then two clustered G1 DL380 blub0r server.
Again EVE-cloning only to get the ****ed player from eve is really robin hood like but think about it. Whats with the old player base that doesn't like incursion or Dominion ? ;)

EVE private servers are coming. If you like it or not. They have multicore support (CCP has single core, noobs). Network framework is 10x beter then ccp's ones (lol at that).
Regarding legalty of private "EVE online". If server is put online for free, CCP can do crap about it.
So ye, CCP gives a **** about you and only wants you'r $$$ (cold and real truth) to sponsor WOD and dust 514, while eve slowly but surely dies.

I agree on your post... EvE is dying but in my opinion is not due to hardware limitations but on the constant change of game rules... this new null sec security status that lowers the anomalies quality is really pathetic.
CCP want to take people out of empire to low/null sec... but in most of the cases the profit is now in Empire and members are leaving from dangerous low/null to empire...

Originally by: Xavender last day on account last day on Eve - but an offer to make: Eve Cloned - gain non-exclusive to Eve codebase from CCP and revive pre-Incarna Eve as seperate company. Read on...
I am an IT person w/ expertise in large networked systems and enterprise database - heart of Eve technology besides the stackless client.
I would like to make CCP an offer for a non-exclusive right to stand up an Eve Cloned MMO using their existing archived codebase and database schema up through Incursion last patch.
I know I could pick up 10,000 subscribers on week 1 and grow from there.
I would also like an option to import all of the player existing database data so everyone can start from where they were a month ago - pre Incarna.
I will setup a better team to do all game and customer support - and actually provide improved support. With a game as complex as Eve I will increase the support request petition count per player to fifty instead of two.
I will not add any new features for a long time TBD. I may remove a few things like BOTs and players that do nothing but sit in trade hubs and spam. But I would let the community vote and honor the community majority position on all controversial issues.
My team will only patch and fix all (all means ALL) the existing errors and defects in CCP cloned codebase and database server codes - no problem.
Eve Cloned will be running smoothly and will easily support the 1000+ player battles, return support for legacy PC's and new PC's (russians and others on a budget and those having overheated GPU's will be happy again).
Acceptance of my offer would make Eve Cloned experience an intense fun PVP PVE experience that everyone playing the game has come to love and enjoy.
It was disapopointing to see the unique Eve experience clobbered by the poor code of Incarna and the worse decision making of some.
So there it is - I offer a royalty payment back to CCP, keep the same game rates and ISK PLEX exchange intact.
What do you think? Join in support for the New - Eve Cloned...
Congradulations to a player that wants to free the rest of us from the clutches of CCP. I see the build up of a New Momentum. We like EVE but we don't have to like CCP too. OP don't pay attention to trolls. Lets give EVE to the people. |
