Players come and go in Eve. Change is inevitable, if you are so inflexible to not be able to adjust to changes in a simple game, you probably have a lot more serious issues to work on. Learners permit still current |

CCP propaganda.
Sure it is....
Yer funny.
It's not even in the top 500. Unless you mean videogame supercomputers and I doubt there's much competition there.

Well, you go away and try to run even on a home server and you will find out. You need a super computer to run eve. Its that simple. You arent gonna run it from a couple of server racks with a few quad core processors.

I never said it didn't run on a supercomputer just that it's far from being in the top 100. You could probably run eve for the 5 people that would quit for a cloned eve on a single blade though.

I do wonder where it would place though on a list big enough.

In all honesty, I dont think they ever tested it, but they were offered. The reason it was never tested is because it would have to go through about a week of benchmarking tests...which means no eve for a week. Im sure it would top the top 100 though. If each system is a node and each node is a dedicated CPU/core, then thats what...around 5000cores? That puts it up to the standard of some of the computers in the top 100.

Looking at http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=769 I'm counting 268 cores (CCP Yokai says - 280 total Cores) but it's not all about the amount of cores. Perhaps CCP can start usings GPUs/Cells for fight calculations

Edit: On the bolded part - you're trying to troll right? :<
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Tranquility#Sol_Layer
Multiple nodes run on a single core empty systems don't take up a lot of resources at all.
No, not trying to troll. Just mudling through things. Its my first month in eve and Im rather excited about it to be honest. And you really do surprise me with all this being run on Just 280 Cores. They should really think about upping that number.

Why? Everything works fine until you try to cram thousands of people into a single system.

This does seem to be a lot of power for such a small amount of hardware though.

This has to be the stupidest post I've ever read in these forums.
First, though I'm one of those not happy with the lack of hangar first, still on my ship, lets spin it shall we??, this dosn't mean I'm going to agree to jump to another game, because for the most part EVE is still what it was a couple of weeks ago.
Second, as some convoluted way of trolling, this fails miserably, I mean, this is the best you could come up with?? seriously?? roflmao
Third, OMG, dude, their codebase *and* a snapshot of the user database, man, next time you should ask for their bank account, you'll be luckier.
And thats that, I felt compelled to write this crap, monday morning must be... xDDDD -------------------------------------------

Each EVE solar system has own node iirc. How much systems EVE has? How many terminals/endpoints would be needed? Connection of how many gigabits you would need to have - tranzit and synchronous ofc (and not within one country/continent)? Next to superb peering into all major backbone networks in the world to provide same conditions for all. Some insane cluster solution with separated login, auth and d-base. Gigantic NAS/SAN to store all the backups. On one blade with standard telehouse connection you can run max one EVE solar system without anyone login in. And ofc compatibility issues since i bet CCP's solution aint running no Windows, Linux or BSD but some UNIX like custom ****. Just saying. But the core idea aint bad

It wouldn't be too hard to create a basic Elite/EvE like game. I think about 18 months should suffice.

And from all the forum posts a high end machine is now required to run Eve so a replacement is more like $1000 and not $30 - do the math buddy.
I was able to run four concurrent accounts on older hardware prior to Incarna. Now I cannot even logon to one account.
And from the raging forum posts - look past your navel and do some forum browsing - many people are saying the poste-Incarna release is crashing their new machines - quads with Crossfire, 8Gig ram and so on.
So I need to spend $2000 on two machines now to be able to play four accounts on Eve?
Its not in my budget and there is no point playing just one account in my opinion.
And the point is the game worked just fine prior to Incarna in terms of my enjoyment of it anyway.
But like I say - it is my last day so I may as well get something out of my account expenditure and stir the forums pot. I am sure for all those who love Incarna it will be a great experience.
My mistress has departed for a dude with a monocle and designer spaceships.
you said you are an IT person, and that you worked for a large company, and i know they pay you more that 24K a year (find a new job if they don't). unless you are attempting to live outside your means, or your lying about current employment, or im lying because i misread, you can EASILY afford a new 100-200 dollar graphics card, like lets say an Nvidia 460 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121390&cm_re=460-_-14-121-390-_-Product) it even comes with a rebate making it less than $120 before tax. so yea, your not gaining sympathy for having an old outdated sack of **** GPU.
either stop spending money on **** you think you need but dont, or get ready to get left behind. CCP cant keep a competitive product updated for todays players and still have it run on computers from 10 years ago. sacrifices have to be made.

Whatever, you've nothing to back this up.
Pro Tip: Do proper research/analysis to learn what your talking about & put a proper business plan together.
You may also need to do some research on how to submit business proposals because posting on forums like these is not how to do it.
Oh and btw, can I have your stuff? :)

I like the idea, but you're going to have to wait until Eve shuts it's doors. Check out what they did with Earth and Beyond.

Well this thread was interesting for a while but it has run its course.
Naturally, the IP for EVE Online belongs to CCP and clone servers or servers run outside of CCP authorization would not be permitted.
