A very close gaming friend of mine, who shall not be named due to TOS, recently ran into a bit of a...shall we say, heart wrenching problem.
This friend, who is disabled due to the act of a drunk driver, loves to play EVE. She loves it because it is one of the only games she can play that doesn't require fast reflexes. She had created a little niche' in the game by setting up a mining/industry/trading corp. She was very successful and ran a good operation. There were about 50 people in it before she hit a snag and she found herself without access to the Internet.
As many of you know tornadoes ripped through the state of Alabama back in April. Well this friend of mine, her house was destroyed. So she has been unable to play EVE since then. She recently moved into her new home and got back into EVE.
To make a long story short. Two of the players from her corp thought (Becca - not her real name), had quit the game when they had not heard from her in month. They did not know her circumstances and just assumed she had quit. The top shareholders of the corp had a vote and took control of her corp. What happened next is the part that is so sad.
The guy that took control was not a good CEO. He caused trouble, the corp was wardec'd, and eventually it was closed. Becca came back a week ago and found out.
It devastated her. She lost everything. Not only in real life, but in the game as well. She had spent a lot of time and effort building up her corp, and had invested billions of ISK to make it what it was.
She is at a loss though. It took her over a year to make her old corp what it was. Now that is all gone. She doesn't know if she'll continue to play the game now. With the losses she has suffered in real life and now to have this happen in game has really hurt her deeply. EVE was one of the things that allowed her to be a part of something. Becca felt as if she was contributing something to a game and the community that she had come to love and appreciate. Since she cannot get out and run, go dancing or to the movies, this was her entertainment.
So a few of us players who know and have dealt with her in game have come up with a plan. We wish to help Becca get back what she once had. We decided to ask the EVE community to help us make this happen.
We are asking for donations. ISK only please. If we could raise the capitol needed, we know we can help Becca rebuild what she once had, and give her a chance to start over. Many of us that knew her have all ready collected close to a 500 mil ISK. But this is nowhere near the amount she lost. Please help. Some of her old corp mates(that are still playing) are trying to scrounge up ISK to make this happen as well. Becca is an asset to the EVE community, and it would be a great loss to see her leave the game. If you wish to help Becca, please send is to this account(Noelle De'Monte Cristo). I will make sure that Becca gets the ISK. We have a goal of 5 bil ISK so that Becca can start her corp over again.
Once we have reached our goal, we will stop taking donations and return the rest.
Thank you for your time.

this was deffo not a TL;DR, im sorry to say i dont have the money to help her, but i have to say she should keep fighting and dont give up, i think the best thing to give her is to establish as much of her old corp as possible and be there for her and help her(ofc ISK could help do that) but still you should prolly keep doing what you do now cuz your doing it right :)

Nice story, but it didn't quite do it for me. Next time add a Labrador and a Collie in. They should get separated from their owner who relocates due to tornado/tsunami/earthquake. The dogs have to face constant danger and have several near-misses, make friends with a racoon and against all odds track down their owner after a miraculous journey.

Do you know how many chicken shops "The Colonel" had to peddle his special recipe with the unique idea of getting 10c per piece sold (at the tender age of 65) before someone said yes?
Your friend Becca is made of sterner stuff. She will have the fight and determination to look at the situation dispassionately, mentally pick herself up, and go on to achieve greater things.
She does not need hand-outs. She needs to set goals, encouragement for when those goals are achieved and friends to share the joy with.
For then she will find something that this game is famous for.

All the elements of a good sob-story scam - and this is its undoing.
It's just too predictable. You went a little too far to elicit pathos by making 'Becca' entirely blameless. You could have made her partly responsible for her disability. For example, make her the drunk driver. That might create just enough conflict in the mind of the reader ("Poor, poor girl! But, afterall, she deserved her fate, didn't she?") to elicit something more authentic, something approaching real compassion for her sorry circumstance. I think people are a little too cynical to believe otherwise.

I'd rather send the money straight to this "Becca" you're talking about. Nothing will make more certain that she gets the isk.
Of course, before that you will have to prove "Becca"'s in-game identity and history is as what you claim to be. -----------------------------------------------

So this is the gaming community of EVE. I realize that there are many that play this game that are heartless griefers(which is why I refuse to give Becca's characters name out for fear of retaliation - because there are those that would do it and we all know it) but I had no clue that so many could be so cold and post such negative responses.
Is it so hard to believe that someone might actually be in need of a little help? Nobody is demanding anyone send any money, it was merely a request for donations.
I am sorry that so many of you feel the way you do, but I can assure you that this is not a scam, and is a legitimate request upon the better half of the EVE player base to assist a follow gamer that needs our support.
If some of you feel I am over stepping the line, I am sorry, forgive me for thinking that the EVE community was better than this.
Like I said, if you wish to donate to help Becca, please send ISK and only ISK to this character. I will see to it that she gets it. Anything over 5 Billion ISK will be returned. We ask for only 5 billion because we feel this is enough to help Becca get her corp back up and running as fast as possible, so that she doesn't feel so overwhelmed at having to start from scratch again.
We all know how hard it is to create a well working corp. It is no easy task. So if you wish to help feel free to donate, if not, please do not come to this thread and sully it with such disheartening comments.
Thank you once again for your time.

Living in Alabama myself, I feel for her... but unfortunately your story is just a faceless name with a massive donation goal.
This is EVE. Folks have seen every kind scam in the book, and it can't be helped that most of them would look at this go "There's no way". With the way most EVE scams go, they'd be expecting to not only get taken for a ride and have their money taken from em, but also to get openly mocked and laughed at for being stupid enough to go along with.
If your friend Becca is real, I'm sorry for her situation. That's terrible. And I do hope you get SOME help.
