as title I would like to know which of these two makes the better railgun platform for lvling from playing around in EFT I have found that the tengu can field a better tank but the Proteus dose bait more damage but overall I don't know which would be the better railgun platform .
ps.yes I know a missile tengu is better than them both but I am not a fan of missile combat.

Neither. Medium rails are horrid for missions.
If you absolutely want to go that route, get an Ishtar or an Astarte instead. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |

Edited by: ThirdEyeBlenny on 06/07/2011 13:56:50 I have never flown the Proteus so I don't know much about that boat, but as a long term Tengu pilot I can tell you that you really don't want to be messing about with rails. Fit lasers instead and wtfpwn L4 missions, particularily in Sansha/Blood Raiders space.
Try the fit below, beats the Legion at its own game!

Why would you even get a tengu for that? Pretty much any unbonused gunship with 5/6/4 slots can do the same. (minus tank, but last i looked the rats dont warp off in boredom because you have such a pimp tank)
Your fit made baby jesus cry.

Your kidding me are you not? If the son of god plays Eve, he would definately be playing in a laser Tengu, and his killboard would be full of against-all-odds solo kills.

proteus is better rail platform because of sub's that support hybrids guns better, considering that tanking lvl 4 is hardly a issue there you go.
but tengu will outperform it by a light year if used with missiles.

an istart or astarte would require that she speed tank the mission.
If she gets a proteus and uses the adaptive augmenter subsystem with some armor hardeners then she will be able to just go afk.

Incorrect. Anyone with a basic knowledge of tanking knows that the only way you can get an Ishtar to tank even a level 4 is nano-fit. Some good fits also use a little armor buffer and some armor rep drones just in case.

I'll echo another post and say rail or blaster fit astarte. Much cheaper and it'll work better.

I think the irony is lost on you... The point is that people like you with normal names do all the trolling and the people with troll names post actual factual information.
Ishtar CAN tank level 4s.. It could tank level 5s but it would require alot of work on part of the pilot.
Most people want minimal effort so they buy a proteus and fit it with hardeners.

If by "a lot of work" you mean "sitting still, being half-afk" then yes. And L4s don't even begin to test the limits of its tankà
Quote: Most people want minimal effort so they buy a proteus and fit it with hardeners.
If they'll want minimal effort, the Ishtar wins anyway. Zero-effort tank and AFK weaponry > effort tank and weapons you need to control. ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Honestly, the only way the ishtars tank could be less effort would be if it went to your house and made you your sandwich while you are afk, waiting for the drones to clear everything out.
Since there are obvious issues with that, the ishatar not heaving arms and all, i will go with "there is no way in hell the ishtars tank can require any less effort than it currently does".
There is no pilot skill at all involved.

fixed.
Also back on topic, could try fitting a MWD to the proteus and blasters instead of rails?

railguns on a tengu? wa what? the tengu gets bonuses for kinetic missile damage, bonuses for rate of fire and is a hot knife thru warm butter level 4 missioning ship. to gimp it with railguns suggests to me sir, that you work in a carnival. |

Edited by: Faihra on 09/07/2011 06:57:05 Edited by: Faihra on 09/07/2011 06:56:15 Hi there Konun, you can fly a Tengu with Rails, but you will get some problems in level 4 missions.
1. Tracking little frigs 2. Most People fly T3-Ships for completing Missions faster than normal, otherwise you dont have an effective missile-boat 3. Even if you master Tailgu level 4 Missioning, you can't possibly discuss that on a normal grown-up level here. Ingame the language even gets more odd about Hybrid Tengus.
I am interested in Hybrid Tengu too... but for all my calculations Railguns dont get the DPS a t3 should have in level 4s to be useful, the other possibility would be Blasters, but to reach the damage you have with Heavy Missiles you have to stay in a 15km~ range around your enemies... while the missiles can shoot up to your max track distance...
But all is not lost, we should look at another Point: we are looking at DPS here.. DPS scores from EFT. The important point in EFT is, youre loosing dps ... youre never doing your full dps with missiles... or almost never.
So whats left is just to try it... but you need to have a good plan for that, if you loose that railtengu bc you couldnt kill the 4 webifier frigs that orbitted you at 5 km range you will be seriously ****ed off. ^^
Here is another Thought: > Try to use smaller medium Rails; there are three Sizes for a reason, and the only real Difference is their optimal base range and tracking. and since Railguns have a good optimal range and the Tengu gets a 100% bonus, you can use Smaller rails, that use lesser cap and lesser grid, track better and do only a little lesser dps then the bigger ones. > Dont use weapons lower than meta 5, if you do, youre not using a t3 right
I am flying my tengu with t2 heavy missiles atm and it works fine. I am willing to try the hybrid subsystem soon, but hadnt got the time so far.
i hope i helped you a little.
with regards
Jitoru |
