"While CCP will continue to develop and manage the game, EVE Online will be added to the ever-expanding portfolio of titles available through NexonÆs portal site, utilizing NexonÆs billing system and supported by the companyÆs expertise in the areas of regional marketing and promotion."
WTF?! Nexon games are F2P and you pay RL money for better weapons and gear....pretty much everyone does this so to have a fighting chance you have to buy gear too....Combat Arms, Vindictus...omg lol, so CCP has backed down from our market and is introducing what they planned to do to us in Japan.
Pure tinfoilery, but I can almost bet you that they are going to implement P2W in Japan, see how well it takes and how much money they make and then, if they make enough, probably implement it here and current players be-damned.
I don't have a huge issue with P2W because we already have PLEX, but my concerns is just going to be that the amount of money one would have to throw at CCP is going to be greater because the standard of what you need to pay to keep a fighting chance is going to be more in ISK. This about sums it up.
Unlike EVE's Chinese release, the Japanese client will connect to the main Tranquility game server. Nexon will add the game to its portal website and use its own billing system for Japanese subscribers. As we've seen with EVE's sizeable Russian playerbase, it's likely that entire alliances and communities will build up within the game once it hits the shelves in Japan. While the language barrier between players from different parts of the world can limit social interaction, it turns out that everyone understands the language of smashing internet spaceships to bits with lasers. The PC release of EVE Online in Japan will appear later this year, and will be followed by a localised release of DUST 514 in 2012.

"CCP will continue to develop and manage the game"
Japanese players will only be able to buy the game via NEXON and pay their subscriptions through NEXON's billing system. NEXON will also cover Japanese marketing and promotion.
EVE Online is NOT becomming F2P. EVE Online's gamplay is NOT changing due to this business relation.
In fact, Japanese players will be able to bypass NEXON entirely and do business directly with CCP. The only thing is that CCP's websites will be English - not Japanese. ----------

didn't we just get though a whole "better communication" debacle, and yet i see no statement from you explaining clearly WHAT this will bring to EVE, as Nexon has a reputation...

Edited by: Vincent Athena on 07/07/2011 16:38:22 You can be sure there will be one Eve item sold for cash by Nexon: Game Time Cards. This could lower the in-game PLEX cost.

meh
I found the coment about Selling T2 and T3 BPOs and mats in thoes articals with Aurum funny.(they got the mats mixed up for onething) I know its speculation on there part, but its basicaly what they expect the company to do with EVE online because thats how it works with them.
They also seem to be confused as to what implants do.
Get someone from CCP to go into more detail on that, from what Im seeing its cluless speculation from the media right now .End of line.

I'm not sure this is such a good idea. They'll be at such a disadvantage over everyone else on Tranquility, and you know people will be striving to see what tears look like in Japanese... I think they'll be starting so far behind as a whole that they risk being easily discouraged.

Sure I'm worried about CCP going a different route in another market and not letting us know, but my biggest concern is that the Japanese are huge gamers and will be buying up PLEX in droves which will drive the cost of in-game items up through the roof AND the standard of equipment necessary to be on equal terms will be far greater. This is not a great idea for two reasons. Downtime and patches.
I highly doubt you can convince more people to sign on to EVE when you have a half hour downtime during prime time hours. I know you said you might have DT licked eventually, so hopefully that is coming soon and this complaint might not matter much.
But DT combined with patch day doesn't leave warm fuzzies. Patch days usually take the entire evening in the Japan/Korea/Australia region so recommending EVE to these players is a rather difficult proposition.

Ah, so you are worried about PLEX, not about MTs then? My bad, I thought you were suggesting that NEXON was going to introduce non-vanity microtransactions into EVE - which CCP just said they didn't have plans for.
Currently, the demand for PLEX is bounded. As players buy more PLEX, the supply of PLEX on the market increases, while the demand remains the same. Law of Supply and Demand states that the price of PLEX will thus FALL, making PLEX cheaper. No amount of PLEXing can increase the ISK supply - once the market is saturated, the amount of ISK transfered to RMTers becomes fixed. ----------

Except in the case that the Japanese are huge gamers and it's basically a professional sport for them. They will dominate the game in relatively short order and then will be paying for PLEX to get even more money with ISK in-game. Your thoughts are reverse of what I am thinking. Look at FFXI and the professionalism that they expected there, in short order PLEXes are going to be scarce while the cost of things will become very high. High cost modules + low supply of PLEX due to increase in purchases from professional gamers and alliances = a lot of us casuals are going to be screwed. >< I wanna be L337!!! |

I have to admit, I'm only going on common sense here. In order to make bypassing NEXON impossible, CCP would have to prevent IP addresses originating from Japan from accessing certain portions of their website. IIRC, CCP doesn't even do this to Chinese IP addresses who have their own server. The thought of CCP doing this to their Japanese customers, but not their Chinese customers is quite illogical.
Also, this would screw over their non-Japanese customers in Japan (such as those who work at the embassy, military bases, moved to Japan because of their work, or moved to Japan because their parent/guardian had to move to Japan for one reason or another). ----------
