Looks like we'll be getting a huge influx of Japanese players later this year when the game is released in Japan. Unlike the China release, they're also going to be connecting to TQ. So hopefully we'll see a huge Japanese power bloc emerge and there will be some interesting political times ahead in 0.0

EDIT: I actually thing this is very exciting, something to mix up the political landscape. It could be very good for EVE.

There is other thread already discussed about NEXON things. There I've written some of my anxiety. But, CCP comes to this thread, so I'd like to repeat that again;
1) Are existing Japanese player, like me, forced to be change subs, from NEXON?
2) In Japanese online game news site, they says NEXON will have MT, along with monthly subs. Will that MT have non-vanity P2W type item?
I'd like to hear these, because, NEXON is too famous as account insecurity, which I don't want to give my personal information. Also their other titles are heaven of RMT and BOT players, what could endanger current EVE play. This is actually very big surprise, after merely week before, you talked in CSM, no P2W item, and contacted so famouse P2W MMO provider.

From what I've heard, the Japanese actually don't like cruel, harsh worlds like EVE Online. On the other hand, their group-oriented culture could help them to form strong corporations with tight social bonds which make them more resilient to failscades.
On yet another hand, their corporations they form might be more dependant upon trust which would make them more susceptible to spies and thieves.
It will be interesting to see if this has any effect on EVE, and if so - what that effect will be. ----------

Edited by: IntegralHellsing on 07/07/2011 16:22:40 Knowing what kind of company Nexon is, I really hope CCP refrain from doing further business deals with Nexon. Localizing is ok, but anything further is a no no.
Nexon is well known for its extensive use of 'cash' system to force players to pay extra for 'special' items. These include avatar clothes that affect character stats, special items that have limited dates of use and yet powerful enough to affect game play, etc etc.
I hope this partnership with Nexon isn't so CCP can learn from that company on how to make people pay more for game play aka p2w. --------------------------------------

Well, I played vindictus, and I don't remember anything in their cash shop that was required to be competitive. It was all 10-dollar 30-day underwear. But then again there was no PvP in that game.
But yeah, Nexon is very much a microtransaction company.

I highly doubt that CCP would give the Japanese players access to different MTs than the rest of their players, especially if they are going to all be playing in the same universe. If they did, the resulting rebellion would be 10 times as bad as it was before.
If I would guess, I would say that CCP's relation to NEXON will be the same as their relation to Valve/Steam.
Japanese players can go to NEXON to purchase EVE Online, and they will receive a client which is preconfigured to their localization. In return, NEXON will either get a portion of the subscriptions for players who sign up through them or a portion of the initial game purchase for those who purchase the game through them.
I highly doubt that NEXON will be responsible for any EVE Online account handling. ----------

"While CCP will continue to develop and manage the game, EVE Online will be added to the ever-expanding portfolio of titles available through NexonÆs portal site, utilizing NexonÆs billing system and supported by the companyÆs expertise in the areas of regional marketing and promotion."
WTF?! Nexon games are F2P and you pay RL money for better weapons and gear....pretty much everyone does this so to have a fighting chance you have to buy gear too....Combat Arms, Vindictus...omg lol, so CCP has backed down from our market and is introducing what they planned to do to us in Japan.
Pure tinfoilery, but I can almost bet you that they are going to implement P2W in Japan, see how well it takes and how much money they make and then, if they make enough, probably implement it here and current players be-damned.
I don't have a huge issue with P2W because we already have PLEX, but my concerns is just going to be that the amount of money one would have to throw at CCP is going to be greater because the standard of what you need to pay to keep a fighting chance is going to be more in ISK. This about sums it up.
Unlike EVE's Chinese release, the Japanese client will connect to the main Tranquility game server. Nexon will add the game to its portal website and use its own billing system for Japanese subscribers. As we've seen with EVE's sizeable Russian playerbase, it's likely that entire alliances and communities will build up within the game once it hits the shelves in Japan. While the language barrier between players from different parts of the world can limit social interaction, it turns out that everyone understands the language of smashing internet spaceships to bits with lasers. The PC release of EVE Online in Japan will appear later this year, and will be followed by a localised release of DUST 514 in 2012.

They also seem to be confused as to what implants do.

This is not a great idea for two reasons. Downtime and patches.
I highly doubt you can convince more people to sign on to EVE when you have a half hour downtime during prime time hours. I know you said you might have DT licked eventually, so hopefully that is coming soon and this complaint might not matter much.
But DT combined with patch day doesn't leave warm fuzzies. Patch days usually take the entire evening in the Japan/Korea/Australia region so recommending EVE to these players is a rather difficult proposition.

Ah, so you are worried about PLEX, not about MTs then? My bad, I thought you were suggesting that NEXON was going to introduce non-vanity microtransactions into EVE - which CCP just said they didn't have plans for.
Currently, the demand for PLEX is bounded. As players buy more PLEX, the supply of PLEX on the market increases, while the demand remains the same. Law of Supply and Demand states that the price of PLEX will thus FALL, making PLEX cheaper. No amount of PLEXing can increase the ISK supply - once the market is saturated, the amount of ISK transfered to RMTers becomes fixed. ----------

Originally by: Taedrin Ah, so you are worried about PLEX, not about MTs then? My bad, I thought you were suggesting that NEXON was going to introduce non-vanity microtransactions into EVE - which CCP just said they didn't have plans for.
Currently, the demand for PLEX is bounded. As players buy more PLEX, the supply of PLEX on the market increases, while the demand remains the same. Law of Supply and Demand states that the price of PLEX will thus FALL, making PLEX cheaper. No amount of PLEXing can increase the ISK supply - once the market is saturated, the amount of ISK transfered to RMTers becomes fixed.
Except in the case that the Japanese are huge gamers and it's basically a professional sport for them. They will dominate the game in relatively short order and then will be paying for PLEX to get even more money with ISK in-game. Your thoughts are reverse of what I am thinking. Look at FFXI and the professionalism that they expected there, in short order PLEXes are going to be scarce while the cost of things will become very high. High cost modules + low supply of PLEX due to increase in purchases from professional gamers and alliances = a lot of us casuals are going to be screwed. >< I wanna be L337!!! |

"Can we bypass Nexon or not ?" is one of the major concerns of Japanese EVE players right now. Do you have any link to the source of this information ? Thank you.
I have to admit, I'm only going on common sense here. In order to make bypassing NEXON impossible, CCP would have to prevent IP addresses originating from Japan from accessing certain portions of their website. IIRC, CCP doesn't even do this to Chinese IP addresses who have their own server. The thought of CCP doing this to their Japanese customers, but not their Chinese customers is quite illogical.
Also, this would screw over their non-Japanese customers in Japan (such as those who work at the embassy, military bases, moved to Japan because of their work, or moved to Japan because their parent/guardian had to move to Japan for one reason or another). ----------

What's the big deal? There's already quite a few Japanese players in-game. So they localize the client and get a few more, so what?
Jesus Christ, some people will whine and speculate about everything and anything these days. This just= potentially more players in EVE. Great. More people to shoot at. Nexon knows how to handle the Asian market. Let them do the PR stuff. Who cares?
Does the playerbase really need CCP to announce it to them personally before anyone else? It barely affects you besides the language that some newer players may know. What an entitlement complex some of you have.

Good idea, localization is key.
But, - How big of an influx are you expecting? - Do you have the hardware ready to handle that influx? - What if your estimates are crap (lets face it, you don't get these things right very often) and influx is quadruple of expected?

I'd just like to welcome any new Japanese players to the Eve community.
As the unofficial mascot of the Molden Heath region, I would like to invite you all to this wonderous, beautifull, and safe low security region of the Eve universe. We are all very friendly over here and ready to help you in your missions anytime you need us to. You need mining help? Just ask in local! We will come running.
I would also like to encourage you to buy plex, lots of plex, to convert into isk so you can buy the biggest ships as fast as you can. Dont worry that you have medium guns on that battleship you just bought because as the women always say, size doesnt matter, and that is also true in Eve.
The lowsec Molden Heath region welcomes you with open arms. We look forward to seeing you here!

While Japanese already play (kicked a Japanese corp out of a wormhole last week), it will be nice to see an attempt to do localized marketing to them. There is a big difference between some weird game centered around another language, and a game that reaches out to your demographic.
EVE is kinda empty when us poor west coast players stay up late.

This made me laugh! 0.0 battles reported to CCP in advance can barely handle it now and I'm being generous.
Japanese influence down the road for potential powerblock in 0.0 does sound good though.

I for one welcome a larger player base, all welcome our technical, anime, and capitalist specialist of tomorrow!
Question tho. Does this mean CCP will add more garbage space ( Npc or Otherwise empty sov stomping ) and/or another blood line to game?
I'm all for making the game very large and difficult to navigate again by adding 10,000 systems and re-aligning stargates! Remember! Nexon is responsible for Atlantica Online (Strategy-Turn MMORPG) which is cash shop driven entirely. Bad news indeed. Atlantica community HATES them 10x more than any rage i've seen here.

Japanese language support is huge for the average Japanese gamer. Only the most educated a/o wordly Japanese people are very comfortable with English. Plus, the official wiki will (probably) get Japanese support. Can you imagine trying to learn how to play this game entirely via Google Translate from Japanese documentation? Same thing in reverse.

All I can say is this,
I already have 2 coprmates that live in japan that play eve online.
All this partnership is doing is just promoting eve in Japan to get a ton of more players.
More players means the following.
More income to ccp to hire more developers to work on their games, which means more content done faster.
more people to be scammed more redshirts more targets more suckers more people to stab in the back.
most likely more plexes on the market which means prices come down and then the rest of the world can play for free while they pay for our accounts.
also more tears more rage more lulz.

EDIT.. added in the Wiki if anyone interested in seeing it: Eve Japanese Wiki
What is new here really? Japanese language option has been on the test servers for a few year. At least 2 years ago, I was playing with it when I saw the option. The translation was not the BEST, but was not too bad. There are a few Japanese alliances on eve and has been for many years. Is there more to Nexus for this other than advertising Eve, keeping the client translation updated, and distributing DUST 514?? Easy to see that there has been a Japanese chat channel for years, although most I knew on it left.
Take a look at the Japanese EveWiki pages that the Japanese made... They are better than CCPs, because they found the bugs and added in workarounds.
Any publicity is good, but really this is just releasing the Japanese language version officially now with support. Unless I missed something, not much to look at here.
