and I see only 4 launcher hardpoints (one set for each side ?) So this again makes me think these ships will have something other than just 8 weapons and gank. Some possible role bonus (Command links at a probably lesser percentage for small sized ship gangs?, or some new type of ewar bonuses?)

It's a good start. Now alter the proportions and reshape the front wings in a clear blade shape and we'll have ourselves a good looking spaceship and stabbing instrument.

I mean, this only makes sense lore-wise. You need a high-point for command systems, and you need a long body to fit all those launchers on. The solar panels are probably antennae or emitters of some sort.

Those aren't solar panels, they're shield emitters, or wingy bits.

Given how far Eve is in the future, a ship modeled after a pointy stick is pretty lackluster. CCP could have at least tried to model it after one of the Cadillacs of pointy sticks, the polearm!

I was looking forward to seeing what the art department could do with the new destroyers after the re-iteration of the Stabber and Vagabond models.

By the way, the Amarr and Gallente ones have been posted up on Failheap. The Gallente destroyer is quite nice. The Amarr... is literally a Star Destroyer at the moment.

The design of these ships suggests something plot related. They are all decidedly retro. Intentionally so.

But why would we be getting "new" old destroyers? Did the navies dust off old designs for some reason?

Over all the art team isn't doing bad. The new Vaga/Stabber and the Caldari Destroyer. 2 out of 3 aint bad!

This isn't just an ugly ship, by the way. This is a poor model. You can have an ugly ship that is a still a skillfully crafted model. This ain't it.

This is poor, lazy modelling. This is a 3D model that a 13 year old with a few months of practice in 3D Studio might make. Then they upload it to DeviantArt and people know it's ugly but since the creator is only 13 people are like "Wow, really cool ship! I like it! You keep on practicing!" just because they pity the kid.

I doubt it. Dagger shaped spaceships are quite common. The model also is clearly different from all the perspectives shown in the pictures. The nose is different, the hull shape is different from every SW SD model I've seen and I've seen a lot of them, the aft is completely different in design and shape, and so is the "bridge" section as it seems like a rear spoiler of a car instead of an actual bridge. I'm also quite sure the reason for that is, that someone at CCP asked the same question and made sure they're in the clear.

CCP please go back to the original minmatar asymetrical design. we need more lopsided typhoon's and tempests, and less symmetrical/aerodynamic boats.
