The 0.0 effect... *Goons are hardly active and its summer! *Lots of players from Razor and MM either quit the game or took a break from it after losing their space. *Quite a few 0.0 pvp corps have died off over time due to the blob warfare by the russians. *0.0 is now supercapital online. *The only reason big alliances want 0.0 space is to sell iskies, AKA the Russians. It won't be long till these guys own all of 0.0. Look at the chinese server to see this kind of thing in action.
The empire ripple effect... *All these 0.0 players then come to empire and harras carebear corporations, they then quit the game. *New players don't stick with the game due to being harrassed out of it.
Server population stats Look at the graph at the bottom. http://eve-offline.net/?server=tranquility Thats a big dip in daily activity!
Now the micro transactions? Is it possible eve is dieing?

Yes, EVE is self-destructing.
In fact that's why us players try to kill it faster with negative publicity, unsubs and forum drama.
Self-destructs don't generate killmails.

Dunno about self-destructing... but it is certainly self-harming, and the doctors are focused on another patient.

You are unlikely to get a serious discussion.
However you can trace the start of the decline back over 18 months now. Oh and no I'm not referring to :18months:
The server is generally unstable - it crashes four or 5 times a week.
There are loads of bugs which impact the business of actually flying ships.
Its summer but numbers are down on last summer.
Unless CCP pull some major tricks out of the bag for the winter expansion then I think the decline will become self-perpetuating.
Sad but Eve's been trundling along on three wheels for a while now...

It's summer time. Time to go to the beach, go for a bike ride, etc. Who wants to play EVE when it's so nice outside?

So , why then are you concerned? Activity dips up and down like that all the time, especially in the summer...but long term it trends upward. ~Gnosis~ |

Because Incarna was supposed to be a pretty big deal (with some of the very few features being a revamped NPE, a new agent finder and a new UI for the corp finder/recruitment interface) at least on par with Apocrypha?
And so far we see none of that...

Yes, it's this game called 'Real Life'. You can do things like get laid, have a couple of beers, get a tan, go swimming. It's surprising how many people in EVE have not heard of this. . . .
Definitely an EVE Killer.

Everything you said has a ring of truth.
However.
I still find loads of fun fights in my Tristan.
I still find lots of others doing frig and cruiser pvp in RvB and faction war is still cheap fun.
The supers and blobs in 0.0 actually make life more entertaining for lone recons and frig/hac pilots - the average individual pilot skill has plunged since around 2008 imho. There's never been more terribad pvp'ers in shiny ships.
EvE is very much on a downturn tho and I agree entirely fwiw about the isk farming and RMT being the only reason to hold sov. Hopefully CCP is going to do something about it.
I honestly do think if they do not sit down and rebalance EvE from top to bottom, yeah, the clock is ticking toward inevitible decline. BBQ makes me hungry for more... |

I lost a WH to getting laid once but it was in the wintertime. Swimming in the wintertime sucks tho.

Eve dying? no probably not yet. What I do see a lot of is the older, original players leaving, being replaced by younger, more instant gratification types. And that has a serious negative impact of the community.

definitely not, If you want to get technical, when America's economy was going through the depression people STILL found money to do entertaining things, I.E. Movies.
Quote: Hollywood and the Great Depression
In 1934, Will Hays, head of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors Association, said that "No medium has contributed more greatly than the film to the maintenance of the national morale during a period featured by revolution, riot and political turmoil in other countries." During the Great Depression, Hollywood played a valuable psychological and ideological role, providing reassurance and hope to a demoralized nation. Even at the Depression's depths 60 to 80 million Americans attended the movies each week, and, in the face of doubt and despair, films helped sustain national morale.
[Source:http://www.digitalhistory.uh.edu/historyonline/hollywood_great_depression.cfm]
So no, there is NO connection. In actuality it would be more activity expected for games such as Eve.
But as the Thread starter stated, Eve is in what appears to be self-destruct mode.
And it's not because of the economy, it's because CCP went ahead with their agenda to milk more money out of it's players. player activity was healthy before the whole "greed is good" thing came to light. now, not so much so.
so 1+1 = 2 all day long, the economy is not the reason for low activity it is CCP's money scheme that is the cause for eve's low activity. _____________________________________ MM Inc. "We Make It, It does NOT make Us!" |

That is not real-life. That is a vacation, which is what many of the absent players are currently on. Real-life will start up again a fortnight later when they have to report back to the jobs they hate for the rest of the year.
That's 'real life', and they'll all soon be back on-line trying to escape it once again.
BTW, what's summertime got to do with getting laid? Do human beings have mating seasons in your part of the world?
