You are unlikely to get a serious discussion.
However you can trace the start of the decline back over 18 months now. Oh and no I'm not referring to :18months:
The server is generally unstable - it crashes four or 5 times a week.
There are loads of bugs which impact the business of actually flying ships.
Its summer but numbers are down on last summer.
Unless CCP pull some major tricks out of the bag for the winter expansion then I think the decline will become self-perpetuating.
Sad but Eve's been trundling along on three wheels for a while now...

Hmmą wasn't that at the height of the "socket lost" bonanza? Or was that later? Getting kicked off constantly would probably make people more likely to "give up early", so to speak.
BoB at the height of their power, t20, boot.ini and everything nano'd to hell and back might be a start? Also ISTR the server was extremely unstable for a while around then.
I know a load of people I knew quit around 2007/2008 - a fair few came back for QR and stuck around for Apocrypha but they're more or less all gone now. Three lacklustre expansions in a row will do that.

Masochistic nostalgia and force of habit. Like marriage
Continuing down that analogy....
....that'd make Dust and WoD the kids in this "relationship". Dear gods who would want custody?

Its not as bad as that graph suggests - its due to the way it calculates the averages. Watch what happens to the graph after Sunday night.
Tippia's graph is more useful to see the effect of Incarna/CCP leaks/broken servers really.
Edit - still a fair old drop though, not even able to break 40k on Friday. We'll see if the trend continues - I think Tippia is going to run the graph a couple more days.

Originally by: Tippia The last two Sundays have actually shown a tiiiiny amount of rebound, but the rest of the days are in the gutter (and even the Sundays have been much worse than before the patch) so the averages are not looking good.
We'll see but I think the trend is quite likely to become self-perpetuating. CCP lost at least 35,000 accounts last summer due to :18months: and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they've lost more than that already this summer.
The figures are of course skewed by idiots like me who have months of gametime on multiple accounts but aren't actually playing the game now. As their gametime expires then we'll see the true state of affairs.
Winter and all the FiS promises seems a very very long way away with nothing much other than barbieland iteration to look forward to. Modules broken left right and centre with no fix ETA, server up and down like a *****'s knickers, forums full of alt trolls.
Even taking an optimistic view of the winter expansion (ie it isn't the usual half-completed bugfest and DOES deal with spaceships) its going to be a VERY long six months for everyone - especially CCPs investors.

Originally by: Digital Messiah Edited by: Digital Messiah on 18/07/2011 07:17:14 They reported as many as 3-5 thousand bots being removed from the game recently.
"They" haven't reported anything of the sort. I was one of the people agitating for CCP to deal with bots so I'm well aware of what's been "reported" and "announced".
Also since the decline is clearly accelerating since Incarna none of your theories match up.
Like I said we'll see. The "its summer time" reason is bollox however - PCU figures are below summer 2010 and are in fact close to summer 2009 levels. Unless you're claiming that there is something "special" about summer 2011 of course. Are you?
