Edited by: Tom Gerard on 18/07/2011 14:27:59 I have 14 PLEX I bought them for an average of 270k, holding on to them keeps me immune to inflation. This presents a market breaking immunity to inflation.
The easiest way to fix PLEX is to reduce the number of days each purchases.
If I controlled EVE 1 PLEX = 1 DAY. This would cause an expedited price adjustment of the PLEX model.
Only people who could complain would be botters and RMT.

I would support this If and Only If you used lunar time to define "1 DAY" (since one day on the moon is 29.5 Earth days.)
On a side note, I support a four week month (28 days) with a 13 month calendar (4 weeks/month * 13 months = 52 weeks per year.) It makes date math much simpler and guarantees that your birthday and holidays fall on the same day of the week every year.

If I was a budding industrialist or trader that might matter, the reality is I fell to the darkside a long time ago. I am just another pirating, griefing, scumbag who wants your tears.

So its sort of like hoarding gold and silver IRL. Fail to see how this is market breaking. Quite the opposite actually.

Which adds up to 364 days a year. What are your plans for the 1.25 days left over each year??

Make it a holiday.
edit: Which (along with leap year) would cause birthdays, etc., to fall on different days of the week. Oh well.

Typical blond, pretty but not intellectual. I still heart you, but show market details on any of a dozen items.
The clear market trend is positive the hurf durf had no effect on the market nor playerbase. EVE is seeing predictable effects from the most successful launch in world history. They are changing the world, while hard it is somethin CCP has done before in. my ten years of experience.

I disagree. This is the ultimate solution, which I suggested months ago in MD.
How would that not fix everything?
(Note: The answer is not "Because that would ruin my hoarding strategy.")

Looking at plex price history, prices are little lower than a peak reached in mid-June but still noticeably higher than prices in February/March and a lot higher than July of last year. Current plex price is comparable to December.

Well I see a drop across the board on items, not just PLEX.

If it really is a problem that the market is flooded with plex, them CCP should make more options to use plex, eg. the NeX store with more reasonable prices. The solution should be be just to make items magically disappear, would you like that mechanic to balance all aspects of the player run economy?

AUR for respecs (neural remaps) will eat up a lot of PLEX. Same for bloodline changes, and the new minigame (gambling) once the incarna bar is released (probably the Winter expansion).
Plenty of things to gobble up plex without an expirey date, if they add an expirey date, that could jeoperdise the uptake of those plans.
A lot of people will refuse to buy PLEX on principle of the expirey date. Plus it adds risk, if you go away for a while or those with PLEX in their dorment accounts, they lose the value, why would they return? Sour taste.

Let's try another staple, then, like tritanium. Trit prices approximate a step function where prices transitioned from a lower level to a higher level over the course of February - April. Current trit prices are approximately 30% higher than a year ago.

PLEX, despite being traded in the player-run economy, is not a regular part of it.
It's an input to the sandbox.
To pretend otherwise is silly. And adding an expiry date of say 90 days to each PLEX unit won't cause them to magically disappear, it'll help drive them out of the economy as the expiry date approaches. Near-expiry PLEX items will either be converted to Aurum to maintain value, or be sold via contract for ISK at a discount.
This solves a plethora of projection problems for CCP, lowers the price of PLEX for non-speculative use, increases the supply of Aurum for the playerbase, and makes people who have so far purchased monocles angry.
Nothing but positives for everyone.

That would make trading PLEX's much harder and thus the price would simply ROCKET then panic FALL near the expirey, and those accounts mothballed for a period with plex for later use, that is effectively telling those customers to never return.
Financial suicide.

Once there are more options to use aurum it might be a option to add expiration dates, but atm i don't think CCP should force people to use plex. I think aurum is a good abstraction of plex, and it has alot of possibilities, both good and bad, i think it just needs more time and a bigger market to be the plex drain the market needs and then the expiration dates may not be needed.

Expiring PLEX would require a brand new code and would be one more database update to run during the daily downtime.
Not going to happen, since CCP has more important things to spend their limited dev resources on.

Disagree, again. You should use "scare quotes" rather than SCARE CAPS, btw, they tend to be more subtle yet more effective.
There's no reason for prices to "rocket". As the first batch starts to expire, prices will dip slightly, but will be supported by the ability to convert them to Aurum. This will drive the price of all PLEX down, since why would anyone buy a new PLEX at a higher price if the intent is to immediately convert it to game time or Aurum? For legitimate use, a near-expiring PLEX is just as good.
Yes, this hurts the speculative trade in PLEX. That's the whole point.
