Right now freighters are huge and there is no mid sized option other than the orca(different skill path)
Players do not always need to carry the huge amounts freighters carry, but we do not also want a new ship to take away from the freighter.
So why of all the ships are there no fittings on these ships? Add 3 rig slots. Reduce the amount they haul so if cargo rigged they are equivalent to current freighters.
This would let people set up there freighters how they like. More tank, more speed, more agility or more cargo. Rigs rather than modules because these ships are huge and not easily reconfigured like military vessels. May also promote people having more than one to use when they need a particular load hauled.
Also helps use up more rigs and introduces a sink when the rigs are destroyed or changed.
Will also make freighters more appealing.
Thanks for reading.

Edited by: Mr Cleann on 18/07/2011 17:31:24 Right now, freighters are nothing more than a shuttle with a much large cargo hold. It is time they be given some module slots. Nothing major. Perhaps similar to an industrial. If a cargo expander is used then it sacrifices "x" amount of speed. Another option would be to give it 50% less slots than a industrial. Something like this 1 x high slot, 2x medium slot and 3x low slot and 2x rig slots.
The high slot would allow it to fit a cloak (usability to be decided by the pilot you cloak a phobes ) The medium for armor or shield enhancing, and the lows for cargo exp, armor reps, rigs for cargo optimization. Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "Oh crap, he's up!"

When i was writing this post I thought the same. But should a frieghter be able to cloak? what other thing could it possibly fit up high...Don't think it shoudl as it makes it to safe. Frieghters are big and unwieldy.
Same goes for mid slots. what would you fit other than tank? a 100mn AB? on a capital ship? for when you auto pilot? A mid slot choice is no real choice.
Having lows may offer the choice between armor or speed, or cargo but does not help shield users. It is also to easy for a single mod to affect such a huge ship.
Rigs are much more fair and balanced. 1. they can be shield rigs and are just as usefull on say a caldari frieghter as an amar one. 2. they offer real choice, fitting one type is a real sacrafice to others. Fitting cargo rigs slows you down, speed makes you weak, and armor makes you slow. 3. They are not easily re fitted. Frieghters are huge and should take more than a simple click to re task the ship. 4. not a huge change and can't change what a frieghter is.
these are also not combat ships so should not be able to fit armor reppers and such that would come alongw with slots. Or a giant ECM oblesk tanked to the 9's might be odd. Rigs do not present this risk. ______ Hello WoW players. Look at your toon, now back to me. How much reconfiguration should be allowed? It can have a huge effect on the Eve economy.
But the idea of rig slots sounds good to me. 3 may be too many but perhaps just 2 would add a lot more spice to freighters. And it would increase demand for T2 rigs.

Freighters will never get low or rig slots for one very simple reason.
Add an Expanded Cargo Hold II to a moderately skilled freighter and you now have a boat capable of carrying packaged capital ships into Highsec, bypassing the no new capital ships in high sec game mechanic that CCP established a long time ago. Additionally, giving a ship with a hull of 100000 the ability to mount a DCU II is probably not going to make you very popular among the "we like to shoot freighters" set.
Highs and mids we can discuss, but you may as well hang up the low slots and the rigs. --Vel

I think the freighters could do with some customization although be it very limited . Maybe some specialized cargo expanders or something that would decrease the ships capacity for carrying modules , while at the same time giving it the ability to carry assembled ships . This would make it more appealing to corps that move or change alliances . This would increase its market value and also increase the ships usefulness .
On the other hand I am against cloaking them . They are an extremely large and slow ship . chances are when you get to a gate anywhere a ship or a fleet of ships would just uncloak it instantly . Also with its slow speed it would be easy to uncloak b4 it gets to warp by a frig or any other ship making a run for its last known location .

We could set it such that a cargo riged industrial will match the current frieghter stats. Not asking for bigger frieghters.
Rigs are preferable to slots as they are more restrictive yet far to each type f ship(just lows is unfair to shield tankers, and mids don't help an armor tanker or you get frieghters with e-war. All undesirable.
Just allowing rigs lets us costomize the frieghter without changing what it can do. Reducing the cargo hold so it balances out when you fit cargo rigs is fairly simple math. ______ Hello WoW players. Freighter capacity is specifically set to disallow ferrying capitals in them .. would need to increase carrier/dread volumes by 50-60% or remove repack ability to compensate.
Freighter's will never be appealing no matter what you do .. I get nauseous just remembering how unbelievably fat and cumbersome they are to move around in without webbing alt. Increasing their warpspeed ("lol") or agility (double "lol") with rigs might seem like a good idea, but the low base numbers will prevent it from being a boon to anyone who doesn't spend most of their time in the damn things.
